Chapter 53

Dinner time came and I dressed up in a simple white gown before leaving my room. I went down to the restaurant where the dinner was taking place.

The place was already filled up and I was still searching for a place when I heard my name being called. Turning to the direction where the voice came from, my eyes landed on a lady. I recognized her immediately as one of the people I talked to during the morning session. She waved, gesturing me to come over and I slowly went there.

"Good evening, Li –" I trailed off, forgetting her name.

"It's Lila."

My eyes flashed with realization. "Oh, yes. Lila. Sorry, I'm not good with memories." I apologized.

"Oh please. You would get used to it soon. " She said with a wave of her hand and motioned to the seat beside.

I smiled in appreciation before settling, but as I turned to my left, I flinched when I saw him James sitting beside me.

His brows furrowed. "Are you now scared of me?"

"Of course not, I was only surprised." I said with an eye roll before looking away from him, only for me to see Xander staring at me.

A frown contorted on my face as I slowly looked from Reed to James. Is this the only table here?

Sighing loudly, I slowly dished out my food before I started while engaging in conversations with Lila at intervals. It was all peaceful and all, until one of the men spoke up, directing his question to Reed.

"Hey, Reed. I heard you divorced your wife, is that true?"

I looked away from Lila to face the man. How did he know about me?

Reed cleared his throat, his eyes meeting with mine before nodding his head. "I did, and it's the best thing I've ever done in my life."

I scoffed, and looked away from him to my food. But they were not done.

"Wow, I had hoped to meet her some day. Is she pretty?" He asked but Reed chuckled. "She is not even up to average."

"I think that's a lie because she is beautiful."

My eyes widened and I looked at James. Did he just say that?

"Do you know her?" The guy who seems like
Reed's friend asked James, who nodded.

"Of course, I do and she is the most beautiful woman I've seen. She is gorgeous." James said with so much passion that my heart skipped a beat, and soon it started to race as I stared at him unsure of what to think or say.

Reed scoffed. "What do you know."

"A lot to know that she is on the winning side for divorcing you. I mean, a husband like you, that's gross?"

I almost chucked, watching as Xander's smirky face turned to a frown. "Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"

"Of course not, why would I? I'm only saying the truth."

"Hey!"

"You won't wanna cause a scene here, do you?" I spoke up and the frown on his face deepened. I cocked my eyebrows daringly as I watched as he gritted his teeth before setting down back.

Rolling my eyes, I picked my wine glass and gulped down it's whole content. I took the wine bottle to refill it, but I was stopped by James who held my hand.

I gulped as my heart skipped a beat, but I quickly covered it with a frown. "What are you doing?"

He took the wine bottle from me and dropped it on the table before facing me. "You are drunk."

"I'm not." I shook my head, but a low burp emitting from my mouth proved me wrong. I only had one glass but I'm already tipsy? Wow! I still want to drink more anyways. I reached out to the bottle but James took it away. "You can't drink, I will have to carry you to your room."

My brows furrowed as I drunkenly faced him. " Who said you needed to take me to my room. Am I your responsibility?"

"Ahh..." James groaned glancing at the people around us. I also glanced at them, but they were all busy doing their own thing, no one was staring. James suddenly grabbed my hand, and I turned my head to him. "Let's go."

"No, I don't want – " James was already dragging me away before I could complete my words.

"Hey, let me go." I tried to protest by wriggling my hands for him to let me go but his hold tightened and I resulted to hitting his hand, not until he suddenly whipped his heads towards me.

"Stay still or I will have no choice but to carry you." He snapped through clenched teeth, and I swallowed.I stopped hitting him immediately and instead, followed him groggily.

We continued walking till we got to the front of my room. James faced me then.

"Your card?"

"Why do you want it? I can go in myself." I said with an eye roll and looked away. I heard him heave. "Are you serious right now?"

I turned to look at him, displaying an innocent expression. "Did I do anything wrong – " I trailed off when I realized something - my card. Taking my gaze to my hand, my eyes widened when I saw my card was not with me.

"What's wrong?"

I looked up at James, letting out a nervous chuckle. "I think I left my card inside."

"What?" His eyes widened, and I sighed, feeling dizzy.

I suddenly stumbled, almost falling if not for James who caught me quickly.

"Are you okay?" He asked, and I shook my head. "I'm feeling dizzy."

I heard him groan as he made me stand well,.butt his arms stayed on my waist. I was about telling him about it when I felt a knot in my chest.

My eyes widened. I shot my head up at him. "Can I use your bathroom?"

"What?"

_______

"Urrgh." I groaned, as I poured the last of water of my face. Taking my gaze to the mirror, I sighed. Why did I drink too much?

Releasing another sigh, my eyes went to the door. I was currently in James bathroom, since he allowed me to use it. But right now, I feel really embarrassed to go out. After all that yelling at him, how could I end up in his room and why did I have to forget my room card in the room!!!!

I feel so embarrassed to even go out.
