Gone
"You have to check this part and that part as well, have those men set..."
"Albert!"
"Where is he?"
"In his study.."
"Albert!"
In a split second, the door of the study flung opened.
Albert pushed the files and books on his desk aside and place his elbows on them.
"Leave us santus"
Santus now and left, shutting the door behind him.
"Why did you have to punish Bruce, despite knowing he isn't .."
"Is that why you marched in here, did you perhaps asked what he did? Besides just twelve strokes won't do much harm "
"Albert!"
"He's just a kid"
"A kid "
Albert scoffed.
"Did you just say that Linda, about a twenty years old "
"He's a kid"
"That's why he had to steal from the company and gamble with it. Why do you keep protecting those stupid children of yours. I was sixteen when I was on the streets, struggling"
He gestured with his hands.
"And this is it, my empire, my money, my legacy. Everything I made for the past years. I hustled for every bit of it.”
He drawled at every word.
"They ain't you, you need to know that "
"I know they ain't me, that's why I expect them to be better than me. After everything I did for them. Look how messed up their life is"
"And am not gonna stop until I put them in the right path"
"Even if it means killing them "
Albert shrugged his shoulders. Linda staggered on her feet and quickly held the wall. Her burning gaze lingers on him before she spoke.
"The reason Bruce is suffering is because of you, Dixon is suffering because of you , I am suffering because of you, ain't you killing them already.
How mighty of you Albert "
"I only asked for one thing, perfection, is it too much to ask. It's late you should..."
Linda already stomped out of the study, blinking the tears of her eyes, she didn't want to seem so weak in front of him.
All she had ever asked was a family.
The tears came running down her cheeks. She wipe the tears off and muffled her cries, running away from the study.
What's she gonna do?
Dixon sat on the island, staring at the meal he prepared earlier for Maeve and himself. He had forgotten she wasn’t here anymore, he came down after hours, thinking she would have been hungry and he hurried to make dinner.
Now he watched the food dance in front of his eyes. With the thought of her not been around.
He wasn't in the mood for all that. There wasn't any appetite right now.
He jumped down, picking up the plates and hurled them in the waste bin, walking out of the kitchen. Walked back to his room, maybe a cold shower could help him, bring back his thoughts.
He pulled off his shirt and shorts, entering the bathroom.
As the water runs through his body his thought raced back to Maeve when they were in the bathroom. Teaching her how to use the bathroom. When she slips and fell. Or when she jumped when the shower turns on, fighting with the water, He couldn’t believe he chuckled at the thought. And a smile tugs at his lips.
He should stop thinking about her It's better this way.
Wrapping the towel on his waist.
He walked out.
After putting on his pajamas, he fell on the bed, watching the clock on the wall as it ticks.
He tossed and turned.
Watching the clock again.
It was gonna be a long night. He was sure about that.
He sat up after watching the clock for hours. He came down from the bed walking back to the kitchen. He couldn't count the numbers of times he had filled his stomach with a glass of water every now and then, and now he was heading back there again.
He refill the glass and gulped down everything.
Linda was right but Maeve wasn't what she was thinking about. She was a complete different and complicated. Mostly why he called her an alien.
He refill his glass with water again and gulp down.
Suddenly he groaned and held his head, the glass fall from his hands, breaking into pieces.
Memories flashed through him.
He crouched.
Holding his head.
"Promise me you're gonna take care of her, you're not gonna push her away from your life"
"I promise ms Teresa "
She touched his face with her blood stained hand.
"Thank you, that's my only wish, that there would be someone with her when am gone "
"You don't have to worry, I will be there "
She smiled at him.
"Don't ever forget the name Maeve "
"Maeve.."
It felt like a dream but a reality. He was seeing it before his very own eyes. Everything.
He gasped for breath, holding himself, as his own word rang in his head.
"It's just us now Maeve .."
He fell on his knees.
“What was I thinking.”
If she really meant to kill him she would have done that, the very day she stepped in here. And he had been hiding her, why stopped now, when he’s already her partner in crime. If she was to be arrested, he’ll definitely followed suit. But she didn’t, despite the fact that she was alien, his alien. And he just chased her out of his house. House that’s not even his in the first place.
He remain seated on the floor. It was 3:15 Am. And he had been restless.
He already made a promise, gave his word to her. And this is the best he could do, throw her out just few days Ms Teresa died. How cruel of him.
He didn’t thought of how she would live, what if some bad people took her. She fell into the wrong hands.
Without a second thought, he raced out of the kitchen, picking up his car keys.
He was gonna look for her.
She belongs here.
Maeve kept glancing behind her, if he was gonna come but he didn't.
Nonetheless,
She kept glancing until she was tired of looking. She sighed.
Taking a seat on a roadside bench.
It's better this way way, so she doesn't end up killing him.
She has a lot to think about, why she can't remember anything, why she was she having those dreams.
"Hey, what're you doing out here"
Maeve lifted her head, staring at the smiling face of a man in his causal wears.
"You might not remember, but I do recall seeing you and help a guy trace you. He came to you I think "
Maeve observed him carefully from his head down to his sole of his feet.
"Am Dr Green"
She mouthed an oh.
"What can I do for you "
He took a sit beside her.
"You shouldn't be here at this time, it isn't safe here"
"I can take care of myself "
He chuckles, nodding his head at her.
"Am fully aware of that, but you can't spend the night here."
"Hold on, you said you saw me"
"I did, you were looking... you "
He chuckle again, earning a look from Maeve.
"The guy looking for you then seems so desperate to find you."
"He was then, not anymore "
"Found a reason not to "
"It seems so"
Dr green nodded in acknowledgment.
"Am sure he's gonna come back, the reason he searched so earnestly for you the other time, he gonna come searching for you again"
"I don't wanna go back there "
"Why?"
She shakes her head.
"I read a book once in my mentor study thought it was just a fictional book and nothing special about it, it felt weird, you know, the past cross passing the present. It like we are in the past-present. Then an opportunity came, I took it, and began working as an intern. He wanted to bring the past to life. With him being in control.”
He laughed.
Maeve stare blankly at him.
"I can be of help if you need any, I live close by. And if he comes looking for you, you can always go back to him."
"I can't go back till I can control myself "
"You can't hurt him"
"You can't be so sure "
Green nodded.
"I agree with you on that, but he needs you and you need him, that’s the only way you can control it, though it’s just a matter of time before it overcome you completely. You can’t fight it Maeve, I know need you to be prepared. Whatever is gonna happen and whatever happened, there will still be that part of Maeve in you. Even if it’s faint.”
"You sound like you know me. I almost killed him today, and you said I need him.”
“There are something you can’t explain. No matter how hard you try, things like fate. Look at me Maeve. I know how you feel, I’ll help you in the best way I can but know this, you’re a half demon, until you accept it, only then will you have minimum control of yourself. You ain’t complete yet. There’s still hope.”
“Why are you helping me, ain't you scared am gonna hurt you or something "
"Well I'll be so glad having you in my home"
He laughed again, revealing his gap tooth.
"Fulfilling my duties. Maybe this was why I was alive. You may never know.”
“You know me don’t you?”
“I know you. Cause we made you.”
Maeve laughed bitterly.
“I also know, the only tears you shared is blood.”
You’re the one who gave me an injection that night, you made me an half demon, what should I say, thank you?” She asked. Her eyes were clouded, with blood already.
“I’m sorry, if I hadn’t done that, you would been a full borne, and may never had gotten the chance to meet Dixon. And might have wiped every one out of Hans Town. I wanted to end his selfishness.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Lead the way, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Dr Green nodded. And stood up.
“Let’s go.”
And just after they left.
Dixon drove past
