A deal
“Maeve!” Dixon yelled. It was past three hours she left and he hadn't seen her or know where she had gone. Albert wanted to see her. That's why he was looking for her. Where could she have gone?
“Maeve.”
He called again.
“Where the hell are you?” He called her name again but there wasn't any reply. Where could she be? Did she run away, she couldn't, she promised she was gonna stay with him.
“Maeve!”
“Keep your voice down,” Mark said, leaning on the door with his eyes partially closed.
“You must be the boyfriend.”
“Who are you?”
“My name is Mark.” he stretched out his hands for a handshake but Dixon didn't take them.
“Where is she?” he grabbed him by the collar.
“That's a wrong way to treat a doctor.”
“Where did you hide her.”
“Take your hands off me.”
“If I don't.”
“Let him go.”
“Maeve!” he let go of him running to her, pulling her into his body. She wrapped her hands around him.
“Are you okay?”
She nods. Still hugging him, she felt safe and secured in his arms. Whatever pain she was feeling was seized.
“What happened.” he disengaged but still held her close to himself. He looked down at his shoes. Then back to her. She was quick to grab what that meant.
“He’s died.”
“I knew he won't stay that long. What about your mom, is she okay?”
“Bruce is there, I came to look for you.”
“I should leave right, I should go home. You have to stay here and be with your mom.”
He nods.
“I should call Green to come to pick you up.”
“It's fine, I'll take her.”
He turned to him with a glare.
“It's fine, he's not a threat, I can take of him if he proves one.” she showed him her teeth.
Dixon chuckled. And pat her hair.
“I'll be home soon.”
“Hmmm, take care of your mom and tell her you've forgiven her.”
“I’ll.”
“You promise.”
“I promise.”
He gave her a quick kiss on the lips. Mark rolled his eyes at them.
“Be home quick.”
“Sure.” he kissed her forehead. Before letting go of her.
“What did you say your name was?”
“Mark, Mister.”
“Whatever, she has to be home safe.”
Mark scoffed.
“I wonder how she keeps up with someone like you,” he whispered.
“I heard that.”
“Hope you don't mind if I steal her from you.”
“You can't. It's not possible.”
“What if I make it possible.”
Dixon snarled.
“Stay away from her, you ain't a doctor, yet you call yourself one.”
“I’ll be one soon, then I'll have her by myself.”
“Keep dreaming. She can't like you. You ain't her type.”
“Is that so?” they both turned to Maeve.
“What?” she asked confused.
“I’m your type ain't I?”
“Tell him, he isn't.”
“Look! Someone is coming!” she said point to the side. They both turned.
Allowing her to run out of the hospital.
“Maeve! I know, you love me alone, no one else. Not even this jerk.” he yelled after her.
“Keep wasting your time. She's gonna leave you so, I wonder where this love is going to.”
“She’s not leaving me.”
“If you say so.”
Mark waved his hands. Walking out of the hospital. She waved him goodbye. He waved back till she was gone.
Before walking back to the hospital. Could he trust him, what if he does something, what could he possibly do, and that what does he know that he doesn't. He just met her, yet why does it feel like they had known each other a long time ago. He felt it too. Someone part of them.
Maeve could take of him. If he proves difficult.
Right now, Linda needs him.
His mother, Albert was gone, just after she cut the cake. He had wished her birthday before he died. At least, he repented. But it didn't change anything. How is he gonna tell Maeve, his father had been among the men that killed her father and destroyed their family. He hadn't known the girl that was sold to Lucas was the daughter that escaped. Though he had suspected it.
Would she hate him, or hate his family, and he hadn't told her about her mother yet.
How stupid of him.
“Are you Albert son?” a woman wearing the hospital uniform? Walking around with a nurse. Her legs were shaky as she walks.
Dixon looked at the woman.
Isn't she supposed to be sleeping?
He stopped. And bow a little in greetings.
“You’re Albert son, ain't you?”
“Yes, I'm.”
“You looked so much like him.”
He stares at the woman. Her blue eyes, brown-red hair. Slim and beautiful. He doesn't need anyone to tell him. This was her mom. He stares at her.
She was here, in the same hospital they had been. Maeve was here, perhaps she had passed her and had no idea who she was.
It wasn't her fault anyway.
“You must be Dixon then, the eldest. Look at you, you've grown.” she sniffed.
“I’m Mare, you don’t remember me, we visited you guys a lot those days. Your father and my husband were best friends.”
“Mr. Cartel right.”
“Yes.” She smiled and held his hands.
“Where’s your father? And your mother too?”
“He’s dead. He died about an hour ago.”
Her jaw dropped.
“Who killed him.”
“Peru.”
“What!” She places a hand over her mouth.
“What’s going on.” She sobs.
He pulled her into a hug. What’s he gonna say to her, don’t feel pity or cry for the man who plotted to kill your husband.
“I’ll take her back to her ward.”
“Don’t worry I’ll do it. Just lead the way.”
It all fall into place now, Ms. Teresa helping him, she had known him since he was a little child. Why didn’t he remember any of them?
Why couldn’t he remember they were once close to even pay visits.
He understands now, why she gave him Maeve.
“This is where you live?”
“Yes.”
He parked the car in front of the house.
“I’ll walk you in.”
“It's okay.”
“It's late, it's 2 am.”
“C’mon then.”
He followed her. Staring at the environment as he walks. Was this place safe?
“Don’t worry it's safe.”
“Did you read my thoughts?”
She shrugged, pushing the gate open. He walked in with her.
“Do you want to spend the night here?”
“If you want me to.”
She rolled her eyes.
Opening the door, Dr. Green and Eamon who had been leaning on the door, eavesdropping fell back. Pretending they weren't listening.
“You’re back?”
“Why ain't you guys asleep yet.”
“Waiting for you, we couldn't sleep when you two ain't back.”
“Oh,”
She mouthed entering fully, Mark stare around the house. Wow, this wasn't what he was expecting. The house was magnificent.
“Who is he?”
“I’m Mark. An intern in the hospital.”
“Don’t tell me he’s spending the night.”
“It’s late he should stay,” Green said, glaring at Eamon.
“He should leave, he has his place to stay,”
“We should at least give a proper welcome for bringing her home.”
“If he didn’t bring her home, you could have gone to do it instead.”
“Why are you here again, Eamon?”
“He should leave that’s what I’m saying, it’s late isn’t an option. Because that’s how he came.”
“You’re talking like you own this house.”
“I’m saying it for everyone's farewell.”
“Is this how they are?” Mark asked. Watching them continue arguing.
Maeve nodded with a disappointed look on her face. She wasn’t expecting this from them. Can’t they reason together for once?
“I’ll take my leave.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Yes. It was nice knowing you Maeve. I hope we could see more often.”
she nods.
“Sure.”
“Goodbye then.” He waved. Then opened the door and walked out. She waved him back.
Then turned to see the two still arguing. She sighed. Walking to the kitchen. To grab a drink.
She sat down and began drinking after getting herself a cold soda.
There wasn’t much time left. It was four days now.
Four days and she would be gone.
Forever.
She gulped it. And exhaled. The thought of it was killing, she doesn’t wanna talk about it.
Peru!
An unfinished business, she might as well end him before anything else. She would visit him. He could but couldn’t hide from her. She jumped down from the island.
She won’t go through the front door, she would go through the back door or the window.
He started this he should as well end this.
She jumped down from the window. And was right outside the house. With the hoodie over her head. She marched down to find Peru. Looking for him won’t be easy, but she would try.
