Dying
Dixon parked the car in front of the hospital and came out, gripping tightly to the basket of fruits.
He felt really nervous. He leaned on the car for a while, he was here right, he should go in already.
He sighed, feeling frustrated already. He checked his phone if there was any phone call from Dr. Green since he had asked him to stay with Maeve while he was away. He had to call him again after he left to come back and stay with her for the night.
He tucked the phone away and began walking into the hospital.
"Oh Dixon! You came "
Linda quickly pulled him into a hug as she saw him walking in.
Disengaging from the hug.
She held his hands.
Smiling sadly at him.
“I never thought you would come, this means a lot..”
"Come on, let's go"
"Yeah "
They walked towards the ward Albert was.
Outside the ward, Bruce was seated on a bench, rubbing his palms together.
"You came "
"I had to "
"Sure he isn't going to create a fuzz when he sees you"
"You should be worry about yourself Bruce, sure you're gonna be okay with him"
Bruce shrugged.
"I'll be fine I think "
Linda breath out.
"Let's go in already "
Albert was facing the ceiling, probably counting them as he was trying to sheered away from those thought of his.
He turned when the door opened and his family came in, with Linda in front of the them.
She strides towards the bed, pulling Dixon along with her.
"Albert, come closer Bruce and you too Dixon "
His gaze was fixed on the trio. Watching their every move without saying a word.
"Fa--ther"
Bruce stuttered.
Albert sighed and look away for a seconds then return his gaze back to them.
Especially Dixon.
"How are you feeling?" Dixon asked.
“How should I be feeling?"
"It was just a question "
He dropped the basket of fruit.
"Why're you here?"
"I see you're doing very well, I shouldn't be here"
"Dixon "
Linda called quietly.
"It's okay "
"I never asked him to be here, he should leave if he wants to "
"Let's not do this Albert "
Linda pleaded.
"If, he's gonna..." he coughed blood out of his mouth.
Linda rushed to his side, wiping the blood off his lips with a napkin.
He took it from her hands, coughing blood into it.
"Albert!" Her eyes were going wet again.
"This is..."
The door opened, interrupting her speech and the doctor came in.
"I will attend to him, immediately "
He walked towards Albert, Linda move away so he could get access to Albert.
After attending to Albert for a while he turned to the awaiting family of his.
"Well, you can all see me in my office."
"I would prefer you say what you're gonna say about me in my presence "
"Sir Albert "
"Yes doctor"
"But you can't..."
"Just go on with it."
"If you say so."
He turned his attention back to his immediate family.
"He was poison" he announced
"Po---"Linda shakes her head.
"It can't be possible how can Albert be poisoned"
"That's the truth mrs Albert, it started gradually, spreading to all his systems, we traced the poison to about two or three years ago and then it poison started circulating in him. And now it all over his system.
And that only means he was given the poison most times in those three years "
"And what can be done about it?"
"Mr. Dixon, Sorry to say but nothing can be done. He was strong to have hold up all through those years"
Linda was already at the edge of breaking down in tears.
"Am sorry, he's not gonna make it. Well except if you believe in miracles but medically there's nothing to be done than to expect the fact that he's a living corpse "
Linda fell on her knees.
"No! No! It can't be, Albert!" She cried.
"How long does he have to stay alive "
Dixon asked.
"Probably five days. Might be shorter than that.”
"Not even a week?”
"He can't survive it. I’m sorry.”
"He's already dying..."
