This time
Dixon stirs and turns to his sides, slowly his eyes open. It was still quite dark and he wasn’t so sure of what the time was yet. But he could guess, it was past four in the morning. He sighed and stood up. Naked. Searching for his pants.
Then it hits him.
Maeve!
She wasn’t by his side.
He walked back to the spot where they slept. She wasn’t there. He ran shortly to take up his clothes and slide them on.
Where’s she?
Her clothes weren’t there either.
“Alien!” He yelled. His voice echoed as he shouted.
“Alien!” He shouted again. Running, but he look confused about where to go, which path he was gonna take. He ran back again.
“Maeve!”
“Where the hell is you!” He yelled louder than he did before.
“Tell me pls!” He cried. And ran back again.
Maeve cried in the spot she was hiding, watching Dixon as he called out her name. She felt the hurt in his voice. As he cried out to her. She hid further when he was getting closer to where she was.
“Maeve!” He yelled.
“Argh!”
“I’m sorry Dixon. I’ve to go. I’m sorry.” She cried. Standing, she took the other way. And ran.
Dixon heard her footsteps as she ran. He ran as well taking the direction she took.
“Maeve!” He screamed. But she didn’t reply to him and then he stood a roadblock. He couldn’t find her.
She wasn’t here. It felt she was gone.
He held his chest and squat a little. Why does it suddenly hurt so bad?
Arg!
He runs his hands, up and down over his chest. It was hurting so bad. He fell.
“Maeve!”
This was the last thing he thought of happening, why would she run away? Just like that.
Without a proper goodbye. Doesn’t she care that much about him, why would she hurt him this way.
He staggered up his feet again. Staring at the road. He couldn’t see anyone. Or heard any sound.
With his hand on his chest. He turns his back, back to the spot where they once were.
He sat down on the cloth that was spread on the ground.
There he saw the note, folded on the side he slept. He stretched his hand and took it. He unfold the paper and saw the letter she wrote.
‘I’m sorry, I need to leave...Bye Dixon. Let’s end it here.’
What, she needs to leave, why? Would she need to leave him?
“Maeve!” He caresses the note.
“Where are you? Why can’t I find you? I want to find you, I want to see you and be with you, tell me where you are at.” He whispered. His lashes got soaked with tears. They should end it. End what, it only just began.
Maeve!
“If you know you were gonna leave, why did you let me fall in love with you. Why didn’t you tell me, I wouldn’t have given you all. I wouldn’t have, love you this way.”
He cried.
Taking his eyes upward, he hadn’t read everything, but the last part in which she wrote let’s end it.
Holding the note, he stare down at it, wondering when she wrote this if she had stayed up all night, writing this to him.
He settled his eyes once more to reading.
‘I keep believing in some fake things that I know ain’t real and ain’t gonna be real, I believed I was gonna be human, that I ain’t gonna die, but it ain’t all that. I couldn’t tell you when I found out the real reason behind the white hair. I had thirty days to spend with you. Thirty days before death.
Every night, the pains of death come.
It hurts Dixon.
So much.
That’s why most times you see me in your room. I couldn’t sleep I had to watch you sleep.
I couldn’t say anything, I let you keep hopping on the false hope that I could be human again. When I know I would never be one.
Green had nothing to do with this, it’s all me, I told him strictly not to tell you.
It’s all on me. Don’t blame him or hurt me, he did a lot.
But, seems I wasn’t made to be human.
This was our last moment, it was precious and I held it close to my heart. Even till death, I’ll never forget you.
Because I love you so much, Dixon.
I got this far because of you. And I don’t wanna let go, but if I don’t go away, I couldn’t let you watch me die and turn to a full bore demon.
I’m sorry, cause I know it’s gonna hurt but we just had to move on.
If whatever I’m gonna do doesn’t work, if I never did come back to meet you.
Then you should forget about me cause I would be long gone. And the body would be that of a demon.
Dixon, thank you for everything.
His hands tighten on the sheet, as a drop of tear fell on it. His heart aches, she had gone to die.
Those signs, those were the sign of death.
He stood up and faces the moon, which was now fading off.
“Why? That is what I’ve to ask you, why did you bring her to me? When you know there won’t be anything to do about her. She’s gonna die and I can’t do anything. Why can’t you help?
I’m begging you..”
he fell on his knees, with his hands clasped together.
“Don’t let her die. I love her so much. Just this once, give her a second chance, don’t let her die! If you’re there, save Maeve. She did nothing wrong!” He cried. Squeezing the paper to his chest.
“It’s not too much to ask, why can’t you do it. Let her live, even if as a half-demon. Let her live. She can’t die..” He broke down in tears.
He had never felt this way before, he felt his life had gone down the drain. And nothing makes sense anymore.
What would he do, without her?
How is he gonna survive, with the alien not being beside him?
Looking up again, with teary eyes and running nose.
“Is this my fate?”
He chuckled bitterly. And sat down, hugging the note. He wanted to see her, talk to her, hug her and tell her all these had been a nightmare, that she wasn’t going anywhere without him.
Can’t it just be a nightmare, that she was gone and this time around, not because she was looking for prey but because she wanted to die, she didn’t want him to see her in the horrible state when her soul would be gone? And the demon in her would take charge completely.
That was it. This time, death took her away from him.
