Chapter 61
Ethan's POV
“We have to think of this as a test of our lives,” I said more firmly. “Trust me, even though it feels so hard, it can be part of our journey. We have to think positively, and you have to trust that life will lead us to a better path.”
Isabella slowly stopped crying, but the sadness was still evident on her face. “It’s hard to think like that when I already feel him,” she said, wiping away her tears.
“Yes, I know,” I said, reaching for her hand and holding it tightly. “But we will get through this together. I will always be here for you, Isabella, and we will get through this. We will not let one loss bring us down forever.”
In my warm embrace, I could slowly feel that little by little, the crushing pain was beginning to ease. We both had to find the strength within ourselves and support each other through this difficult time. Our love could endure, even in the midst of the greatest loss.
As Isabella looked at me, I made a silent promise to give her all the support she needed, to find hope amidst this sadness, and to rebuild our dreams for the future. Though our journey might stumble, I knew that together, we would find a way to move on—with love and courage.
After three days in the hospital, Isabella was finally allowed to go home by the doctor. Although she was still weak, I felt relieved to be able to bring her home. “You have to watch what you eat, okay?” I asked as I prepared the car to go home.
“Why? I’m all alone now,” she replied in a sad tone, and I could see how difficult this situation was for her.
As the days went by, I often found Isabella daydreaming. Her face looked sad and burdened, as if the memory of losing her baby was constantly haunting her mind. I tried my best to cheer her up, trying to find ways to make her feel happy, even though it might be difficult for her right now.
I tried to be positive and encouraging about our future. “Let’s try to get pregnant again,” I said with hope. “I know this may be hard, but we can try again when you’re feeling better.”
Isabella stared at me for a moment, and I couldn’t read her expression. “Lucas, I… I don’t know if I’m ready to go through all of that again after this loss,” she said, her voice shaking.
“Listen, honey,” I said, trying to make my point. “I know we’re dealing with a lot of grief right now, but we also have to keep hope alive. Pregnancy may not take away the pain, but bringing us back to our goals and dreams is a positive step.”
She took a deep breath and seemed to consider my words. “But are we ready to go through another possibility? I don’t want to go through this loss again,” she said, and I could feel the fear in her voice.
“No one can predict the future, Isabella. But I believe that we will have another chance. We’ll do it together, and this time we’ll be better prepared,” I said, trying to reassure her.
I wanted to see her get excited and fight for a brighter future. “Let’s get ready. We can prepare ourselves physically and mentally. We can seek further information to ensure we are more prepared than ever before.”
Isabella was silent, but I could see a little hope in her eyes. It was a small step towards a new journey, and I was determined to support her through this process. We would get through this together, and I knew that with love and perseverance, we could achieve our dream of having the family we wanted.
Three months passed, and Isabella finally started to get back on her feet. She was finally able to do her normal activities, and the changes made me feel relieved and happy. Moreover, I could taste Isabella's cooking again. The familiar and delicious aroma filled the room, making me eager to try it.
"What are you cooking?" I asked excitedly, watching her in the kitchen.
"I'm making sweet and sour shrimp," she replied with a cheerful smile.
"Wow, I can't wait for your food!" I said, imagining the delicious taste of the dish.
We enjoyed dinner together, and seeing Isabella's enthusiasm again made me feel so grateful. It felt like the happiness that had been lost was back, and we could cuddle again like we used to. Laughter and light conversation warmed the atmosphere in the house.
However, suddenly there was a knock on the door. “I’ll get it,” I said, getting up to open the door. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Lucas standing in front of me, smiling.
“Lucas,” I called out, happy to see him. “Ethan, I’m here,” he said.
But, when I looked beside him, my heart fluttered. Lucas came with a woman who looked very much like Elara, and my feelings were mixed. Was this a coincidence or was there a specific purpose behind their arrival?
“Oi, Lucas! Who’s her?” I asked, confused by the woman’s arrival.
“This is the new friend I introduced. Her name is Mia,” he replied, pointing to the woman next to him. The woman smiled, but a strange feeling haunted my heart. Was Lucas trying to replace Elara?
“Mia, this is my brother, Ethan,” Lucas continued, trying to keep the atmosphere positive.
“Nice to meet you, Ethan, you’re the guy who used to come to the bookstore where I work, right?” Mia said pleasantly. Although she seemed pleasant, I couldn’t shake the confusion that was inside me. How did Lucas feel about Mia’s presence? Was he ready to turn over a new leaf after losing Elara?
“Yes, that’s right,” I replied.
Isabella approached, and her facial expression changed when she saw Mia. “Hi,” Isabella greeted, extending her hand to greet.
