Chapter 72
Ethan's POV
“Finally, you’re awake,” I said with gratitude and joy as I saw her bright eyes. Unable to resist, I immediately kissed Isabella’s cheek, feeling a rush of love and happiness fill my soul.
“I’m fine, Ethan,” she replied with a weak smile, but the light shining in her eyes made me feel relieved.
My heart felt lighter as she responded, even though she still looked weak. I smiled, feeling all the burdens I had been carrying all this time begin to lift. “I was so worried,” I said softly, watching Isabella try to get up.
“Don’t worry, I promise I’ll get better soon,” she tried to get up, but I quickly held her hand, worried that she was trying to move too quickly.
“No, don’t push yourself, Isabella. You just woke up. Just rest first. We’re all here to support you,” I said, reminding her how important the recovery process was.
Hearing my words, Isabella smiled even wider, despite her tiredness. “Thank you for being here with me, Ethan. I am so grateful to have you.”
My hands gripped hers tightly, and as I looked into her eyes, I knew how much this moment meant. With every difficult second we had endured, we had managed to move forward with love and hope.
“Wife, we will get through this together. Now, focus on healing. Together, we will rebuild our happiness,” I said with determination.
All the fear and emotions that had built up over the week were paid off when I saw Isabella smile again, even while she was lying down. Our love was unwavering, and together, we would face any challenges that came our way.
“Why did you insist on fighting, Isabella?” I asked, feeling the need to hear from her heart. When I saw her wounds and everything she had faced, I wanted to understand her reasons so that I could ease the burden we were both feeling.
“I couldn’t bear to leave you alone. I wasn’t at peace either,” she replied in a low voice, but every word she said stirred a deep emotion in my chest.
My heart was moved, and I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing down my cheeks. She was truly an amazing wife. In a dangerous situation, her priority was to be with me and support me. In the midst of the shaking noise of war, she chose to be by my side. “I am forever grateful to be your husband,” I said sincerely, realizing how much she meant to me.
“But you shouldn’t have been there,” I replied, feeling a sense of helplessness creeping up on me. The truth was, I was so worried about her safety. With every attack we faced, I didn’t want to lose the only person who mattered to me.
She looked at me straight in the eye, not backing down from her stance. “I had to be there, Ethan. It’s part of me.”
We were silent for a moment, feeling the depth of our conversation. Although my worries hadn’t completely disappeared, I could feel how Isabella fought for our position, and how deep our love for each other was.
In the more relaxed moments after we shared our feelings, the atmosphere warmed up a little. We told each other stories, laughed, and reminisced about the wonderful memories we had shared. Every second I was by her side made me more certain that all our efforts were worth it.
“I promise to be more careful. If there is another battle, I will think twice before making a decision,” she said in a calmer tone.
“And I promise to always protect you, no matter what. We have to look out for each other,” I replied enthusiastically, holding her hand tightly.
Our hearts are united in a commitment to support each other, even though there will always be challenges. We are ready to face whatever comes our way, together, and that gives me unimaginable strength.
This togetherness, no matter how difficult it is, is what I cherish the most. As a husband, I promise to always take care of her and love her with all my heart.
Today was a momentous day when Isabella was finally allowed to go home by the doctor. Seeing her walk out of the hospital with a smile on her face made my heart beat with gratitude. However, behind this happiness, I also realized the challenges we had to face—especially since our territory had been taken over by the enemy.
After returning home, I began planning our next steps. With the uncertain situation, I knew I had to find a new job to ensure that we could survive. Considering the flexible hours, I applied for a job at a bar. It may not be an ideal option, but I wanted to be able to work to my full potential while making sure that Isabella remains comfortable at home.
Isabella was happy to hear that I had applied for a job, but there was one thing that made me think. “I want to work too,” she said, looking excited.
Instantly, I felt uneasy. “Isabella, I don’t think it’s necessary. You just need to relax and wait for me to come home,” I replied, trying to reassure her. In my heart, I didn’t want to burden Isabella with financial matters. She had struggled enough, and while her parents had made her happy before, now was my time to be a responsible husband.
“Ethan, I want to help us,” she said, but I could see the doubt in her eyes.
“Okay, but you know I will try my best to provide for all our needs. You just need to take care of yourself and rest,” I added, wanting to take any burden off her mind.
After a while, she nodded. “Okay then, Ethan. Are you the one who is enthusiastic about working?” she said in a supportive tone, and I could feel our bond growing stronger.
I smiled, feeling empowered by her support. “I will do it, honey. With you here, I will have more enthusiasm. Every kindness you give brings new hope to us,” I replied, touching her soft hand.
The days ahead would be challenging, but I was confident that together with Isabella, we would get through it all. With a commitment to support each other, we would face any obstacles, and I was determined to give her the best life we could.
After applying for a job at the bar, I finally started doing well in my new job. Thankfully, my boss was very kind and not fussy. He appreciated every job I did and often praised me. Although I wasn’t too flattered by his praise, I felt happy to be recognized for my hard work.
After coming home from work, I found Isabella already asleep. Indeed, since I started working, our daily routine had changed—I would leave at night and come home in the morning. Seeing her fast asleep made me feel at ease. I would have some time to rest before I could be alone with her again tomorrow. There was always a sense of longing when we didn’t have enough time together.
A few days later, when I came home from work, I found Isabella waiting in the living room with an expression that was hard to describe. She was holding a pregnancy test pack and her face showed a mixture of anxiety and happiness. “Ethan, look at this,” she said, showing me the test results.
My eyes widened as I realized what she was showing me. I had already guessed the results, but my heart still raced with surprise and happiness. “Are you… pregnant?” I asked as I moved closer, almost in disbelief at the happiness that was coming over me.
Isabella nodded, a smile starting to appear. “Yes, I’m pregnant again. We’re having another baby soon,” she said, joy radiating from her face.
Gratitude welled up inside me. “I’m so grateful, Isabella!” I said, reaching for her hand and holding it. This was such exciting news, a new hope that had brightened our lives after all the challenges we’d faced.
“I wanted to make sure everything was okay, so we need to take care of our health,” I continued, paying extra attention to her needs. I remembered all the heartache we’d experienced before and how this baby was the gift we’d been dreaming of.
Isabella smiled, her eyes bright with hope for the future. “I’ll take care of myself, Ethan. I know we can get through this together.”
We hugged, feeling each other’s warmth. In that moment, all our efforts and struggles felt like they had paid off with this happiness. I didn’t know what was coming, but I did know that I would take care of them both and fight for a better future—for Isabella and our unborn baby.
The end.
