Chapter 49

Cassie was sleeping between Ryker and Daniel, like a sandwich. Ryker woke up to his alarm immediately. He didn’t want to disturb Cassie; he carefully snuck out of bed and walked over to Daniel. When he nudged Daniel, he was about to sit up abruptly, but Ryker put his hand over his chest and shushed him. Ryker used his hand to warn him to get up. Daniel got off the bed without asking anything.

Ryker and Daniel were standing in a room. Ryker told him. “We can't sleep in her room like that. What if her mom barged in and saw both of us in boxers and Cassie in a t-shirt only?”

Daniel asked while wearing his glasses. “What do you want us to do?”

Ryker pointed at the door. “You go out and check if Ruth is still sleeping or not, because if she is up, we all busted badly. If she is sleeping, we are all safe.”

Daniel took a deep breath. “Alright, but you stay here and try not to make any noise.”

Ryker glanced at him, and Daniel, sensing his anger, quickly raised his shoulders. “Okay, thanks for being vigilant.”

Daniel opened the door and snuck out his head to peek here and there. When Ruth was nowhere to be found, he signaled to Ryker that they had a clear path to walk out of the place. The moment they reached the main door, both were jolted because Ruth cleared his throat. Daniel adjusted his glasses. “When did you wake up, Ruth?”

Ruth looked up and down both of them. “I just woke up, where is Cassie?”

Daniel smiled. “She is in her room sleeping.”

Ruth asked. “So what are you both doing here when Cassie is sleeping.”

Daniel shook his head. “No, no she slept a few moments ago and I just tucked her in bed and we were going out anyway.”

Ruth asked. “Anyone of you want some coffee?”

Ryker and Daniel both shook their heads. Ryker opened the door. “Actually we are getting late for college.”

Ruth nodded and both stormed out of the house. Ryker sighed in relief and immediately pointed a finger at Daniel. “Why Ruth was Okay when you told her that you tucked Cassie in her bed?”

Daniel pointed at the car. “Open it I'll explain everything.”

When Ryker started his car, Daniel looked at him. “Ruth knows that I and Cassie are seeing each other.”

Ryker asked. “What about Steven? What is his status?”

Daniel sighed. “Steven loves Cassie but he is a very private person so he needs time in these dynamics.”

Ryker asked. “What do you think? Cassie would tell her mom about me?”

Daniel shook his head. “I don’t know it's Cassie’s call to make.”

After a few hours, when Cassie entered the college her eyes landed on Ryker and Daniel coming out of Daniel’s car. She walked over to them and asked Ryker. “Where is your car?”

Ryker was having a hard time not kissing Cassie in college. “At home, why?”

Cassie squinted. “I should ask why?”

Daniel wrapped his hand around her shoulders. “We decided to come in one car, we don’t want to put you in a car dilemma.”

Cassie laughed. “I appreciate to making it easy for me but right now I have to go to my class.”

Cassie waved at both and headed to her class where Peter was standing in a corridor talking to a girl. Cassie felt a wave of jealousy all over her body. She couldn’t spare herself not to intervene in their conversation.

Peter was taken aback when Cassie greeted him with a smile on her face.

Cassie looked at a girl. “You know just be careful because at first he shows the hell of a care and when you get used to it he throws you out of his life like you are nothing.”

A girl was taken aback. “Excuse me?”

Cassie pretended to look shocked as she covered her mouth with her hand. “Oh, my God I am so sorry, you are not his next target.”

A girl snarled. “Get a life.” and she walked away.

Peter grabbed her by the arm. “What the fuck was that?”

Cassie shrugged her shoulders. “What did I do now?”

Peter clenched his jaw. “You know what I am talking about Cassie.”

Cassie kept a finger on her chin. “As far as I remember you called me babygurl when we were alone.”

Peter got angry. “Yeah, we were alone and right now we are not and I think with you I can never be alone.”

Cassie looked into his eyes. “Why do I feel like you’ll need a lot of girls to get over me.”

Peter didn’t say anything. Cassie asked. “Why are you doing this Peter I can see your misery so why torture both by keeping a distance between us?”

Peter opened his mouth but their class had started so both rushed inside. During class, both were unable to focus on the lecture. After the class when Cassie was on her way to the next class, she received a call and Ruth was unable to speak as she had a worst attack of back pain. Ruth was screaming and Cassie ran out of the college without informing anyone.

After all classes, when Daniel met Peter in a cafe, he asked. “Where is Cassie?”

Peter squinted. “I thought she was with you the whole day.”

Daniel asked. “What are you talking about?”

Peter shrugged his shoulders. “After the first class, I didn’t see her in any class.”

Cassie was sitting in a hospital, crying her heart out. Waiting for doctors to give her an update about Ruth. When she got home Ruth was screaming at the top of her lungs and right now she is in an emergency. Cassie’s phone started to ring, she was about to pick up Daniel’s call but the doctor came out at the same time so she ran towards the doctor. “How is my mom?”

The doctor raised his hand. “She is out of pain now, but we gave her some sedatives so she is resting.”
