Chapter 66

When Cassie came back home, Ryker was not at home and Daniel was sleeping. She changed and fell into her bed. Cassie knew the moment she closed her eyes Daniel started using his phone and pretended to be asleep all the time. She had no strength left to confront him anymore as she was already exhausted.

When she woke up Daniel was not at home and Ryker was having breakfast. Cassie was at the peak of her anger but still, she didn’t ask anything instead she didn’t even bother to say good morning. Ryker while using his phone asked. “What are your plans for lunch?”

Cassie without looking at him. “Why do you care?”

Ryker was taken aback and kept his phone on the table. “What happened?”

Cassie shook her head and kept the plate in the sink before leaving for college. Once again Cassie saw Riley with a guy talking and blushing. Cassie sensed something was not right but still, she kept Peter out of her mind and rushed to the class. After all the classes Cassie finally mustered up the courage to go to Riley and ask about Peter.

When she was on her way Ryker called her name. Cassie turned around and taunted "How could you honor the college by stepping a foot in it?"

Ryker took a deep breath. “I come here to take you on lunch.”

Cassie was about to walk away. “I am busy.”

Ryker comes in her way. “I know your schedule so it’s useless to lie.”

Cassie shot up her shoulders. “Okay, so I don’t want to go with you.”

Ryker held her by the arms. “Come on, I am sure you are hungry.”

Cassie pushed his hands away from her. “Do you think I am non sense?”

Ryker shook his head. “Why are you saying this? Because for me you are the most intelligent girl I have ever met.”

Cassie crossed her arms against her chest. “What are you guys thinking that I don’t notice something is going on and you are not telling me?”

Ryker sighed. “Trust me it has nothing to do with you.”

Cassie rolled her eyes but Ryker pulled her arm and led her to his car. After lunch, Ryker forgot his phone on the table and went to the restroom. His phone started to buzz and Cassie looked at the screen it was Daniel. She picked it up but before she could say anything Daniel in one breath. “Peter has woke up, doctors are…”

Cassie was taken aback. “What happened to Peter?”

Daniel realized he had done a blunder. “Nothing, where is Ryker?”

Cassie burst into anger. “Shut the fuck up Daniel and tell me what happened to Peter?”

Daniel threw a punch in the air out of his anger. “He got into an accident two days ago.”

Cassie had no idea what to do but still, she managed to ask. “Why the hell nobody told me?”

Daniel in his firm voice. “We didn’t want to upset you because we all know you still have feelings for Peter.”

Cassie was about to respond but Ryker came and asked. “Who are you talking to?”

Cassie ended the call and looked at Ryker having tears and anger in her eyes. “Take me to Peter.”

Ryker nodded. “I will take you there but please you need to pull yourself together as his mom and sisters are also there and he is not in good condition.”

Cassie tried to stand up but she felt like her legs had no strength to let her stand. Ryker sat next to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “Cass, listen Peter has got into a deadly accident and we all are waiting for him to wake up…”

Cassie corrected him. “Daniel called you to tell you that Peter has awaken.”

Ryker smiled and sighed in relief. “Then what are we waiting for?”

Cassie looked at him. “I have been watching Riley in college for two days and no one could guess her boyfriend has got into an accident.”

Ryker squared his shoulders. “We didn’t see Riley visiting him in these two days and honestly we didn’t even think about her at all because we all were worried about Peter.”

Cassie asked. ‘Should I visit him? Before you answer don’t forget to keep our bitter history in mind.”

Ryker refrained from answering instead he looked into her eyes. “Would you be in peace by not visiting him?”

Cassie shook her head. Ryker stood up and held out his hand. “I thought so, now come on we are going to meet Peter.”

All the way to the hospital Cassie was thinking about her complex relationship with Peter and Riley’s carefree attitude when her boyfriend is in the hospital fighting for his life. Apparently, she convinced herself not to pry into their lives but deep down in her heart she wanted to know if Peter and Riley were still together or not.

The doctor didn’t permit anybody to meet Peter except his mom. Cassie asked his mom if he was doing okay to which she asked. “Are you Cassie?”

Cassie nodded. To which Diana responded “He asked about you but I don’t understand he never mentioned your name earlier. Who are you?”

Cassie was a bit disappointed as Peter never mentioned her at home not even as his friend. “I am his friend just like Daniel and Ryker.” she pointed at both.
Diana responded. “Yeah, he had mentioned these two guys and one more…”

Cassie interrupted her. “Steven,” Diana looked at her “Yeah, Steven, he was here yesterday all day. His name just slipped from my mind.”

Cassie nodded and now everything made sense to her as to why all three boys were busy but she was still angry for not telling her about Peter. She received a call from the office, as she had already taken off yesterday and she didn’t want to give Derek any chance to fire her. Cassie wanted to stay in the hospital to talk to Peter, but she had to leave and rush to the office.
