CHAPTER 30
“That’s the spirit. Jane will show you your room; did you bring any clothes with you?”
“I’m afraid I didn’t.”
“It’s still okay. On weekend, you will go shopping and pick some all necessities you will need. The maids will be going out too. You will leave with them.”
“Thank you very much; I will be loyal to you.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Just take care of my flowers for me and don’t do things that will make me regret for I don’t use the legal system for I am a judge myself,” she warned.
“I do understand.”
“I will leave the garden to you then but first wear some protective gear, I wouldn’t want any harm to fall on you,” she said and handed over the watering jug to Gina.
“I will change immediately.”
Talia left the green house and headed for the mansion. When she arrived, that young maid ran out with her fur slippers. Talia removed the rubber shoes and left them on the ground and she slipped into her slippers and walked into the mansion.
She met Jane on her way to the kitchen.
“I was about to call for you, good thing I met you,” Talia said as she saw Jane.
“Did you have any instruction for me?”
“Gina the new lady in the house, find her a room, she will be working in the garden from today onwards. Tell her what she needs to know and tomorrow when you go shopping, take her. She needs some clothes.”
“Okay, I will do as you ask.”
“Good then. I need to rest; you can return to your duties.”
Talia resumed her journey to the kitchen where she first washed her hands and opened the fridge and took out her favorite fruits; grapes. She put them in a serving plate and left for her bedroom.
She placed them on a stool and went into the en-suite bathroom and opened the taps to fill the tub.
She added the herbs into the water and took her grapes in side too. After undressing her clothes, she slipped into the tub and let the warm water heal her tired body. It felt good to be resting after such a tiring job.
Since her husband wasn’t going to come for a long time she thought of a good idea. She couldn’t see her nanaba since she was out of the country with her lover. She couldn’t believe that her nanaba finally decided to give the man a chance.
She had always known Uncle Tom ever since she was young. The old man had so much affection for her nanaba and yet for her sake she denied to be with him. But since she was married now, she wanted nanaba to be happy and not be alone and Uncle Tom could fill in those gaps. The two would be married soon she hoped.
She finished her grapes and got out of the tub and let the water run out. She dried herself, applied body cream onto her body and blow dries her hair. She went into the closet and picked white jean trousers, a white t-shirt and a red robe to cover herself with.
She couldn’t wear anything without a robe on top. The robes represented her status as a seer though most people couldn’t grasp that concept. She didn’t want to tie up her hair so she put some hairpins so that her hair won’t fall on her face.
When she was done, she put on her nail armors, took her beads and her clutch that contained very few things; her phone, her bank cards and some bills of cash. It was still new for her; she was used to having less or no money at all.
There was no need for her to open a bank account. Her money was nothing compared to others and yet now she owns many cards, she couldn’t leave the house without cash too. She hoped that life would be fair to everyone and not just her alone.
She left her room and thought of visiting the kitchen again.
“You are back,” the cook said. She was a woman in her fifties, so sweet and lovely.
“Yes, I am about to leave and I wanted you to prepare some fried fish for supper. As for the Duke, you can prepare any of his favorite dishes. He deserves it,” she said.
“I will; but what about lunch?”
“I’m not sure if the Duke will return soon so just prepare some snacks for him. I will be back before supper,” she said and left the kitchen.
When she went outside, she met her mortal enemy. Her chief of guards was one crazy woman. She knew everything and now she was standing there even when she didn’t call her.
“Where you trying to ditch me?” she asked and Talia looked down.
“I wasn’t. I was going to call someone for you now. So where is the car?”
“It’s coming. Where are you going today?”
“I don’t know. As long it’s not here then I will be satisfied.”
