CHAPTER 32

She rolled her beads and forced herself to move forward but she knew one thing, if she was going to come next time, she would cancel the haunted house on her list.
That was the first and last time she was entering such a house. She would try and punish the person who scared the hell out of her but that would be cruel. He was just doing his job and he was good at it.
When she exited the house, she took a deep breath and saw a smile on Beth’s face. She could tell she was saying, “I told you so,” but she just let her celebrate her win this time.
After the haunted house like she promised she began to find some food stalls to by some food.
“There are restaurants over there,” Bet said pointing her to another direction.
“I don’t want their food. I feel like having something forms a food stall,” she said and spotted one.
She walked a bit faster and stood in front of the man who looked to be in his fifties.
“Good afternoon,” she said politely to the man who recognized her immediately.
“Duchess, welcome,” he said welcomingly.
“I would like…….” she stopped and looked at the number of guards that were accompanying her and continued, “twenty hot dogs.”
“I only have five on the stove right now,” he answered looking very worried.
“I can tell. Don’t worry; we will wait while you do the rest. As for me I would like one with a chicken Russian,” she said.
“I will get down to it. Thank you very much.”
“You are welcome.”
“Please take a seat,” he said and offered her one of his chairs which she gladly took and helped herself.
“Duchess…”
“Tell them to rest and enjoy the food. They worked so hard after all.”
“Yes, Duchess.”
“While you are on it, I need a bottle of water and orange juice,” she said taking out a few bills out of her wallet.
“That’s a lot for two bottles,” Beth said.
“I know so buy for all of them. I wouldn’t have them stand there without anything and don’t tell me you don’t eat while working. You do as I say or you will be looking for someone else to protect,” she said it as a threat and Beth knew that.
She watched as Beth walked to one of the guards and gave them the instructions and the guards left. It wasn’t because she wanted to threaten her but they were also human beings.
Just like her they get hungry and if they just protect her without eating anything, what kind of a master would she be? If something horrible happens, won’t she be the one to suffer in the end?
She was going to wait here and wait until she gets her hotdog and have a fill. The first batch was handed out and the next ones were on the stove. Happy with herself she looked on the other side and saw a very familiar face. What was he doing here?
***
Neal had just finished his exam and was on his way to the cafeteria when Talia’s chief of guards texted him telling him that his wife was going to the amusement park. Why would she try to do something so dangerous?
He hadn’t been close to her after the incident on his birthday and yet she never asked why. He was furious and decided to concentrate on his exams instead. He couldn’t really understand her.
Chloe told him what had happened and he felt very sorry for her. He couldn’t lie; he still had feelings for her which was so maddening he didn’t know what to do.
Talia had been busy with the parties and all that since she was a duchess and he thought that would keep her away from doing any Seer work but now that she was out, he didn’t know what more she could do and especially at such a crowded place.
He forgoes his lunch and tried to call her but she refused to talk to him. He even heard her talking about how she wanted to go on her rides. She was prioritizing some rides over her husband. What was she really trying to do?
He went to the car park and drove for the park. On his way there he received updates from Beth who seemed to be very worried. According to her the duchess was in a very bad mood but she didn’t take it out on anyone yet.
She was just busy making herself happy. When he arrived at the park Beth told him where they were and he made his way there. Meeting a lot of people and exchanging greetings delayed him bit but when he finally arrived where she was, he couldn’t believe his wife.
He knew she always had a thing for street food but to find his wife seated there as if she was at home, sharing hotdogs with the guards while everyone was watching was something else.
