CHAPTER 34

The doctor had been with her for thirty minutes and she still wasn’t out. Was she that serious? The doctor finally came out smiling and he wondered what that smile meant.
“Doctor is she okay?” he asked.
“The duchess is fine. She is just exhausted. She wasn’t getting much sleep lately, I guess. She is sleeping so be at ease now,” he said.
“That’s good news then. When will I be able to see her?”
“You can go and see her now but I need to tell you some other news too.”
“What is it?” his mother asked.
“It’s good news, my queen. The duchess is pregnant and the fetus is stable. She mustn’t be stressed from now on or else we won’t be lucky next time.”
“You mean she is..?” he asked and couldn’t finish.
“Yes, she is. We will get an ultra sound after she wakes up but for now let her sleep and rest.”
“Thank you, doctor,” he said and rushed into the room leaving his mother talking to the doctor.
Why was he foolish? What didn’t he suspected she could be carrying their child? He looked at her sleeping peacefully on the bed like she did weeks ago. This time he was the cause of her sleep unlike the last time and he regretted making things bad for her.
If he had caused any harm to his child then he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself. Would his mother even look at him? What about the rest of the world?
He had really let his wife down, hurt her and tried to pin the blame on her. Her sat on the chair and took her hand in his and kissed it. Every day she wore her marital jewelry like her clothes. The chain, the wedding band, and the ruby ring he gave her the day he selected her and the bangle.
Where would he get such a devoted person, who was concerned for him every single second of the day?
“I’m sorry Talia. I was just scared of what you can do. I didn’t mean to hurt you or our baby. Please come back to me safely. I won’t mistreat you anymore. I will take care of you and give all my attention to you. I will be good, I promise,” he said still holding her hands.
He didn’t notice his mother entering in the room; he only noticed her presence when she coughed. He turned around and saw her smiling.
“Mother, when did you enter?”
“How could you notice me when you were so busy? I hope you will do as you say. If anything happens to my grandchild, I will have you answer for it,” she said and he knew that she meant every word.
His mother really loved children. She lost her last two children after him and she was greatly affected by it so by giving her grandchildren it was a way of compensating the loss she suffered and make her happy. The children will never be abandoned while she was around.
“There is so much that needs to be done so I will return to the palace and make them start right now,” she said excited.
“Mother what are you planning on doing?”
“Something a mother should do. You should also rest,” she said and turned around to leave.
“Thank you, mother, I love you.”
“I love you too Neal,’ she said and left.

Queen Grace couldn’t hide her joy when she arrived at the palace. Her husband had been worried when she told him about Talia so when he saw her full of joy he was confused. He even left his meeting to just see what was happening.
“What happened back there?” he asked.
“I have some good news. Just guess,” she tried him.
“She is wide awake and well.”
“No, she is fully sleeping now but we are going to have another grandchild soon,” she said and saw her husband’s eyes filled with joy as she was.
He hugged her as if she was the one pregnant.
“Finally, some good news; you need to start preparing,” he said.
“I have that covered. You need to get back to your meeting or else you will tarnish your good reputation my king,” she said and kissed him lightly on the lips.
“I will see you when I’m done then,” he said and returned.
Queen Grace called her chief handmaiden over.
“What’s the occasion?” she asked her seeing how happy she was.
“Duchess of Falcon is expecting so I need you to start the preparations. I need the best tailors to start making the clothes. We don’t know which sex yet so let them make something unisex.”
“I will go right now and notify them.”
“They should use the best brocades that came as tribute recently.”
“I will tell them,” she said with a smile.
She could tell how anxious she was. She didn’t want anything to go wrong at all.
