CHAPTER 47

She looked at the scan and really saw it for herself.
“I think I’m going to faint,” she said.
“Lia, don’t!” her husband held her.
She took a deep breath and looked at him.
“It’s going to be fine, be at ease okay.”
The scan came to an end and she couldn’t stop staring at the pictures. Why were they giving her so many children? Would she even be able to carry them to a full term?
She looked at her bulging stomach, it wasn’t normal to begin with for someone who was ten weeks pregnant.
Neal took his wife home; she wasn’t feeling well after learning about the triplets. They had never been a history of triplets in both of their families. This was new territory for him and his wife needed great attention now more than ever.
The next day Neal woke and got ready to go to school. It was his last day of exams and he needed to get this over with and stay with his wife.
“Good luck,” she said as she lay in bed.
“I will be back to you as soon as I finish.”
“Okay, I will be here waiting for you,” she said.
Neal left the bedroom, took his things and left the mansion. He drove to the university and got reunited with Jasper he hadn’t seen for a couple of days.
“You look great. What’s the good news?” Jasper asked as they make their way to the exam room.
“My wife is carrying triplets,” he told him.
“Oh my God. Man, just how did that happen?’
“I guess we overdid it but it’s a bit stressing,” he said sounding very worried.
“Forget about all that and concentrate on the exam. She wouldn’t want you failing especially with that temper of hers.”
“You have a point there.”
The two of them arrived, settled in their seats and few more minutes later they began to write. Writing a three hours exam was something he still never gets used to.
Talia woke up after her husband left and took a shower and got dressed. She went downstairs where her breakfast was waiting for her and she had her mouthful. After breakfast she decided to pay someone a visit.
Beth had the car brought to the front and the next thing they were leaving. She called Chloe while she was outside her house. Chloe wasn’t writing any exam today so she was at her home. Lucky for her she came out and joins her in the car.
The driver drove off and took them to the woods where it was quiet and without anyone to follow and hear them.
“Why did you come here? Do you want to show off?” Chloe sounded angry and she understands why.
“No, it’s not like that. I just wanted to talk you.”
“Talk to me about what? Last time I checked, you and me weren’t friends.”
“I know. Can I tell you a secret?’
“Tell me.”
“I never really had any friends when I grew up. I played by myself or with my nanaba. Whenever I was in school sometimes I would get bullied though I would fight back but with time I would just leave it since I was poor. No one wanted to be with a poor orphan as a friend. I go used to it.
Even now I am a duchess and yet I have no friend at all. When you have money people want to befriend you because of it and when you don’t have it they will discard you. It is in times of hardship that you will be able to discern your true friends.”
“So are you telling me all this because you are a friend of mine?”
“Not really but there was something I have to tell you that I saw the other time and never did.
“What is it?”
“I know you hate me and I’m sorry for causing so much pain and grief into your life but it was never meant to be. Ben either isn’t yours, you should know by now that he left your side.”
“Are you trying to rub salt into my wounds Talia?”
“No, I’m still trying to get to my point.”
“Then just get to it.”
“I saw you being happy but it wasn’t with Neal or Ben. There was someone you overlooked, you probably see him as a shadow or didn’t even notice him before but he has always been there for you since day one. He loves you as you are. People might think you are ruthless and cold but to him you are just being Chloe.”
“There is someone like that?” she asked out of curiosity.
“There is and you just need to open your eyes wide. When you go back home I need you to think of that person who has managed to make you smile even if it was just for a second. Think deeply and you will see him. Once you do you will know what to do,” Talia said.
***
Chloe returned back to her house after the short awkward meeting with Talia. She never expected she would apologize even when she was the one who was in the wrong. Talia wasn’t bad after all. She just had to change her attitude and accept that she and Neal were done. She sat down and began to think about what Talia had told her about.
Her head boiling from all the stress she got out of the house and began to have a walk. As she was walking a very familiar dog ran towards her and she patted it. Moments later the dog owner rushed and she looked up at him and everything became clear.
She smiled at him and he looked down. She knew this guy; they had lived together in the same street ever since she was a kid. He was always wearing glasses so at some point she even bullied him but he never seemed to mind.
She remembered at one point he confessed to her and she humiliated him back then. It was a crazy day that thinking about it now was just embarrassing.
