Chapter fourteen: Sugar baby

Chapter fourteen: Sugar baby

Jessica

It was Monday afternoon, Janice and I were in the library. I spent almost the majority of the day avoiding looking at my cell phone. I enjoyed spending the weekend with Jeffrey, even though we weren't in a relationship, I didn't regret giving him my virginity.

"Are you okay?" She asked as she screwed the cap back on her Gatorade bottle.

"You are bouncing your leg and shaking the table."

"Oh, sorry." I said, my head still partially in the cloud.

"Are you sure? Because you don't seem like it." She sat back in her seat and examined me for a moment before leaning toward with wide eyes.

"Oh my goodness, did you and Jeffrey….."

"Shh!" I tried to keep her quiet even though there weren't many people near us.

"Don't even."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because it is not something to tell." I whispered.

"But you should tell me, I am your best friend. How was it? Please tell me!" I rolled my eyes, letting my forehead drop and hit the table.

"I don't want to talk about it, Janice."

"Was he that bad?" My head shot up.

"Oh, no, definitely not. He was really amazing." A grin formed on her face.

"But, I am not discussing it, so just drop it."

She groaned and went back to writing in her notebook. I tried to focus on reading my assignment but my mind kept wandering. Then I saw two familiar faces walk in, Harry and Steven. I haven't seen them since the night we went to the club that I completely ditched them for Jeffrey. Olivia didn't even know the details about the fact that I went home with a sexy and cute boy.

I pretended to be occupied and looked back down at my new laptop skimming the words of my assignment but not fully taking in the words.

"Hey, Jessica." I heard Harry say and I sighed softly.

"Hey, Harry." I said as if I hadn't been in his presence this whole time. Janice awkwardly shifted her body, glancing up at me. I could tell she didn't really know whether or not to look at him or just continued her work.

"Haven't seen you ever since we went to the club." I wanted to die in my seat right there.

"Yes, I went back home early that day." I replied, quietly.

He didn't really seem convinced and Steven stood there silent. I felt bad because I ditched him and it was kind of a double date we were on.

"Well, maybe the next time we go out, we can invite the boy-toy you went home with that night." My eyes widened.

They saw me go home with Jeffrey? Janice had her lips rolled between her teeth.

"Yes, maybe." I responded

"Well, see you." Both of them walked away, Janice set her pen down and looked at me questioningly and I raised my eyebrows at her.

"What?"

"They didn't know you left with Jeffrey that night?" I shook my head frantically.

"How on earth could I tell them that I went home with a forty year-old man? I didn't even tell Olivia about him, she just thinks it is a random boy."

"What if they find out?"

"They are not going to find out, I won't let it happen. Jeffrey and I only hang out on weekends when everyone is too drunk to comprehend anything or during the day when they are all at class."

"Have you talked to your mother about it?" I soberly shook my head.

"No, it is not like she cared about my whereabouts anyway. My grades are her only priority, my social life is not something she wants to know about."

Her shoulder dropped and she reached up to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear. It instantly reminded me of yesterday when Jeffrey tucked my hair behind my ear before we…you know.

"Hey," she waved her hand in my face.

"You are dozing off."

"N…no, sorry. I was just thinking."

"About what?" I pressed my lips together for a moment.

"About how I need to talk to Jeffrey today." She rolled her eyes.

After we were done in the library, I decided to gather courage to go to Jeffrey's office. I have been missing and needed to see him today.

I rode the elevator to his floor, my nerves getting the best of me. I had changed into a different outfit, it brings me a little more confidence. I always felt more professional when I visited Jeffrey in some fancy clothes than what I usually wear as a typical college student. I stepped off the elevator, went to the front desk and asked Juliet if he was free.

"Currently, Mr. Craig is in a meeting with the magazine editors right now." She checked his schedule.

"But I can let him know you…."

"Jessica?" I heard his voice and I looked up to see him exiting the conference room, dressed in a gray suit and black shirt with Jorge and an unfamiliar man trailing behind.

"What are you doing here?"

"Can I…speak to you for a moment?"

"Of course, what is going on?"

"I mean, in private."

His lips formed an 'o' shape and he nodded, motioning with his head for me to follow him to his office. Jorge and the other man went to the office as Jeffrey and I excused ourselves.

"What do you need to talk to me about?" He asked after closing the door. He looked quite antsy so I didn't know if I were intruding on his busy schedule, I sighed through my nose.

"I just wanted to apologize for leaving so suddenly yesterday, I didn't want it to seem like I regretted what we did, I guess I just need some time to think." The corner of his lips turned up just the slightest.

"It is okay, Princess. I understand." He took my hand in his, running his thumb over the back of my hand.

"You can always come to me with whatever you are thinking about, okay?" I nodded and he lifted my hands to his mouth, kissing my knuckles gently.

"Would you be willing to come to my place later tonight? I am quite busy right now and as much as I would love to spend time with you. I would rather it be at a time when I can give you my full attention." He brushed my hair behind my ear.

"Yes, of course, I am sorry. I should have called you first and informed you that I am stopping by or at least asked if it was all right. I should have called Juliet first if you were busy….."

"Shhh, Jessica." He chuckled slightly.

"You are always welcome to stop by, don't worry about it. Yes, a little heads up is certainly appreciated but always know you are welcome here. After all, you are our model." I let out a deep breath, smiling at his handsome face.

"Thank you, Jeffrey. I will let you get back to work now."

"Don't forget tonight at 7 o'clock and don't dress too fancy." He winked and I nodded, rushing out of his office before he could catch me blushing ridiculously, I almost bumped into Laim on my way out.

"I am sorry, excuse me." I mumbled.

He simply nodded his head and made his way around me and straight into Jeffrey's voice

"Jeff, is this still going on?" Jorge asked as he entered my office, I shrugged, tapping my pen against my bottom lips.

"What do you mean?" He pointed towards the closed door with his thumb and raised eyebrows.

"I mean the college girl you are suddenly having an affair with."

"It is not an affair." I sat upright in my chair.

"I am divorced and I am allowed to see other people."

"But according to Gladys, you are not." I rolled my eyes.

"Don't you think this may be a bad idea?"

"No, I didn't see what was so wrong about it."

"Maybe the fact that she is over twenty years younger than you? Or that she is only using you for your money?"

"What the hell did you just say?"

"She is using you, Jeff." He leaned onto my desk, getting closer to my face.

"She only wants your money, it is obvious." I crossed my arms.

"The last thing she wanted was material items. Trust me, I know what I am doing."

"Do you know that she is basically a sugar baby?" I smirked.

"It may have crossed my mind a few times."

He still wasn't having it and it was clear he is not okay with my intentions, I sighed and stood up from my chair.

"Don't worry about it, Jorge. It is my personal life."

"Yes, but it will affect how the public sees you once they find out that you are with a woman who is extremely younger than your ex-wife." He crossed his arms and gave me a look.

"The opinion won't be great, you also better make sure Gladys never finds out about her."

I pinched the bridge of my nose, shutting my eyes. I didn't want to second-guess my relationship with Jessica especially since I really liked her and wanted to keep what we had strong.

"I am not discussing this anymore, Jorge. Just drop it." He took a deep breath and I could hear how annoyed he was with me.

"Fine," he walked out of my office.

I sat back on my chair, opening the bottom drawer of my desk and pushing some folders to the side, revealing my stash of rum at the bottom. I quickly pulled out an already opened bottle, unscrewing the cap and taking a few swigs to get me through the rest of this stressful day.

I can't wait to see her again tonight after a stressful work day. She is my pain relief.
