Chapter thirty-three: Beautiful As A Nightingale
Chapter thirty-three: Beautiful As A Nightingale
Jeffrey
Words can't describe how happy I am Jessica accepting to be my girlfriend. I felt obligated to give her something to make the moment special so I reached behind my neck and unclasped my necklace, holding it out for her.
"Here," I said, holding the chain as she looked at me confused. I reached behind her and clasped the necklace, seeing it rest just below her collarbone like it did mine.
"What is this for?" She twiddled the paper airplane between her fingers and I shrugged.
"I just want you to wear it, it means a lot to me and I want the person who means a lot to me to wear it." Her face looked like she wanted to cry and she started shaking her head.
"No, Jeffrey. I couldn't possibly wear this…."
"It is fine, sweetheart." I took her hand.
"I want you to wear it, I will always be with you no matter where you are." I leaned down and kissed her like I had never done before. She is my whole world and spending time with her is the best thing that has ever happened in my life.
**Next day**
"Mr. Craig," Juliet opened my office door and poked her head inside.
"Anthony from marketing us here to see you, are you available?" I glanced up from my paperwork momentarily and nodded with a wave of my hand.
"Yes, please."
I set the files aside as Anthony walked in, his hair was gelled back and a stack of paper in his hand.
"Good morning, Craig." He greeted, tossing the stack of paper onto my desk along with a magazine with Jessica on the cover.
My eyes widened as I grabbed the magazine and read the article titles, which is
'Craig and Co. New model is already slaying on her first cover shoot.'
I flipped open to the article, reading about Jessica as the new Mystery girl who everyone was fawning over but they didn't know her real name yet. I strictly forbid letting the publishing team put her name in the magazine for privacy reasons but now people were probably going to recognize her even more if this magazine was on stands everywhere.
"People are loving the image of Miss Silver." Anthony muttered.
"Everyone is all about the brand new face and I have gotten my multiple requests for her again."
"Well," I began, running my fingers through my hair.
"I can probably arrange that, who is asking for her?"
He pointed to the papers, flipping through them and I realized that they were emails from different magazines asking for her.
"Vogue wants another cover for her, so many fashion magazines want her as their cover. It is endless, Jeffrey."
I sighed both in surprise and nervousness. Jessica was still in college and to balance an education with a modeling career would probably be stressful for her. I stacked the emails together and placed a sticky note on top of them, making a note to email the companies later today and discuss further information.
"Fine, let's talk to Jessica first. I know she will say her education comes first. Are they adamant about this?" He rubbed his hand down his stubbly face, shrugging with a shake of his head.
"I would assume so, you should get a hold of her as soon as possible so you can let them know what to plan for." He leaned his hands on the desk and looked at me seriously.
"Jeffrey, they were offering big bucks for her. They want your clothes, her face and the whole nine yards."
"Okay, I understand."
I knew when magazines were adamant about models, they knew what they wanted and they knew their version entailed. Having the same models repeatedly on cover after cover gets old, diversity and change is important. That is what they were drilling for.
Anthony left and I quickly texted Jessica, telling her to call me when she is available. I hoped she would agree, I couldn't possibly see her saying no but this would be a huge step for my company by having my clothes featured in multiple magazines simultaneously.
Just before I began packing up to go home, my phone rang and I quickly picked it up seeing Jessica's name on the screen.
"Hello, Princess." I answered, fighting the grin that was about to form on my face.
"Hi, Jeffrey." Her voice is as beautiful as a nightingale.
"What did you want to talk about?" I fiddled with the printed emails, my eyes scanning the inked words.
"What would you say if I told you there is a line of magazines that want you on their covers?"
There was silence, I bit my lips with the hope that she didn't hang up or something but then I heard her voice again.
"They want….me?" She asked softly.
"How many?"
"It is endless, Pumpkin." I said scanning the papers.
"You are very popular, it would be a great opportunity. There is La Boheme magazine and Vogue wants another shoot. Burda Style would love to have you…." I noticed I had been rambling and the lines were quiet.
"Princess, are you still there?"
"Yes, yes. I was just listening to you, it is a lot to take in and I don't think I have ever been so popular in my life."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
"Um…a good thing?" She chuckled slightly.
"Can I come to your office tomorrow and we can talk more about it? I have got some assignments to get done before tomorrow but I can stop by for lunch."
"Of course, I will have Luke pick you up. What about two o'clock in the afternoon?"
"Yes, I will be through with my lectures before one."
"I will see you tomorrow then." I smiled.
"It is a date." She said and I could sense the grin forming on her face.
"Bye, Jeffrey."
"Goodbye, Pumpkin." I hung up the call.
She is just the best.
****Jessica pov****
As I was completing my written assignment for my history class, I couldn't help but think about all the magazines that wanted me to do photo shoots for them. I didn't think I was that special but apparently they thought I was.
I heard the door open and I looked up to see Olivia walking in. She tossed her backpack beside her bed and flopped onto the sheets, silent as she pulled out her phone and started texting. We hadn't talked much since I confronted her about Steven. I kept silent because I knew I would say something stupid if I tried to talk to her.
I focused on my laptop, trying to round up my assignment but I could feel her eyes on me. I pretended like I couldn't tell she was staring at me.
"Are you upset with me?" I hated that question, l looked up at her and shook my head with a small shrug.
"No, I am not."
"Then, why won't you talk to me?"
"I guess, I just need some space for a little bit."
"If it is because of what happened with Steven, you could have told me that you don't like him." I glared at her.
"But I gave a hint, you should be understood. Anyways, I don't want to talk about that now."
"Wow, wait a minute. Where did you get that?"
I followed her pointed finger to my collarbone where the paper airplane rested and looked at her confused.
"It is just a necklace, Olivia."
"Did you just get it? From who?" I raised an eyebrow.
"What makes you say someone bought it for me. What if I bought it myself?"
"It is just that I haven't seen you wearing it and besides you don't often go shopping." She shrugged, I rolled my eyes at her.
The next day, I arrived at Jeffrey's office after my last lecture. Stepping out of the car and thanking Luke for the ride. I went straight to his floor, stepping out of the elevator and seeing the familiar hustle and bustle of the office.
Juliet was not at her desk and I wondered if I should just go to his office myself or wait for her. Jeffrey might be busy and I didn't want to be rude and walk in on meetings or something. Then I saw Jorge walking in the conference room, I hastily flagged him down.
"Hi Jorge, I was wondering if you knew whether Jeffrey was busy right now?"
He seemed a little confused as to why I was here but maybe I was just reading his facial expressions wrong.
"No, he is expecting you." His tone seemed a little off, like he was unhappy or something. He knocked on Jeffrey's office and poked his head inside.
"Jeffrey, Miss Silver is here to see you."
"Send her in," I heard his beautiful deep voice behind the door.
Jorge moved aside and let me pass, I walked into his office, smiling as I sat down in the chair across his desk.
"I didn't know if you were in a meeting or not." He cocked his head.
"Why would you say that?" He started pulling some files from his drawer.
"Because Juliet wasn't on her desk, she always let me know if you are available or not.
"Oh, she is running errands for me at the moment."
He placed the file on his desk, flipping open the first one. We discussed the different magazines that had requested me and the reason why it must be me. It was a little overwhelming understanding all the policies that each company had.
Jeffrey explained that we would be meeting with each magazine's marketing team before their photoshoot to sign contracts to make sure we were all on the same page.
