Chapter eighty-three: Baby Shower

Chapter eighty-three: Baby Shower

Jessica

By the time I woke up in the morning, Jeffrey was already working on setting up the nursery. I kept offering to help in some way but he insisted that I was already providing the products that he would sleep in the nursery and that is all the help needed.

"Are you sure you don't want me to do anything?" I asked as I walked into the nursery for probably the fourth time in the last thirty minutes.

He chuckled and stood up from the nearly finished crib.

"Jessica, I am fine. You are making our babies, the least I can do is build the cribs."

"Do you want some food or anything?" He shrugged with a small nod as he went back to work.

"Sure, surprise me." He smiled and I nodded.

I left the room to go whip up something quick, just as I took the first step downstairs, I felt a sudden jolt of movement in my tummy. I immediately put my hand on my stomach and again I felt a small kick.

"Oh my goodness," I gasped, turning back and going into the bedroom again.

Jeffrey looked up at me and noticed my surprised expression, instantly stood up and walked over to me.

"What is it, my love? What happened?"

"I felt a kick." He looked at me with wide eyes.

"Really?" He asked and I nodded.

He knelt down and placed a hand on my stomach, receiving a small nudge in response a few seconds later. His smile widened, kissing my stomach.

"You two better be nice to your mother. She feels you, you know." I smiled.

He continued to have a full-on conversation with my tummy, only imagining how great he would be with them once they were born. I also wondered how much they would look like him or how much they would look like me. There will obviously be many curly heads of hair running around the house, paired hopefully with Jeffrey's gorgeous eyes and his adorable dimples.

"Only a few more months, Princess." He said as he stood up, planting a firm kiss on my lips.

We had finally decided to hold the baby shower as I am seven months along. Jeffrey had to return back to work today because his finance department was apparently having a crisis that needed to be dealt with or the company would lose a huge amount of money.

"Are you sure?" He asked hesitantly as he threw on his coat.

"I can tell them to deal with it. I can stay with you." I waved him off.

"No, Jeffrey. You need to go talk to them. I will be fine, my water won't break or anything." He gave me a playful, warning look.

"Don't joke about that." He leaned down and pressed a kiss on my lips

"I will try to make it to the baby shower, okay? I will work as fast as I can."

"It will be fine, love." I smiled as I reassured him.

"Don't worry, it will just be a bunch of women eating cakes and gushing over the babies."

"But I like cake." He dramatically pouted but I shooed him off to get to work.

I had Luke take me to the venue where the baby shower is held in the evening. He was such a gentleman, helping me in and out of the car.

"Hi, Jessica." Rose greeted me, pulling in for a partial hug since my stomach was pretty much in everything.

"Wow, how many months left?"

"About two months," I sighed with a tired smile.

"I think I am ready for them to just be out, you know?"

"I understand," she nodded.

"Well, come on, let's get you to sit down."

She led me over to the chair at the front of the room, I sat down, relieving all the pressure from my feet.

"What time are the guests coming?"

"Any moment from now." She looked at her watch.

"Do you want anything to drink or eat? I made pink and blue lemonade." She smiled proudly and I looked over at the snacks table.

"I will definitely take a blue lemonade and some cake. Thank you for doing all of this, by the way."

"Oh my gosh, it is not a problem."

She brought me a small glass of juice and a piece of cake.

"I am just happy you ended up having one, Jeffrey seemed like the type of guy to be adamant on buying literally everything himself." I nodded in agreement.

"He is, we made a compromise and he decided he would just buy the more expensive items like the cribs, the prams and basically the furniture."

"And have you got the names yet?" She smiled.

"I think so."

Butterflies always formed in my stomach at the idea of naming our babies. I felt like I was overthinking it so much but I couldn't help but think of the many different name combinations for them.

"We went through an entire list and narrowed it down to two different ones each. He really wants our daughter to have his mother's name as her middle name. I suggested Connor for our son's middle name."

"And the first name?" She pushed but I shook my head with a playful grin.

"Oh, come on, Jessica. Can't you tell me?"

"We were keeping it a secret until they were born. The middle names are the only ones being revealed right now." She groaned.

"I just wanted to know. I hate secrets that I don't have the pleasure of knowing."

The baby shower was lovely, Jeffrey and I got so many gifts for the babies and a ton more than I didn't even know I needed. He still hadn't shown up and then other guests were slowly leaving.

"You know Jeffrey doesn't necessarily have to come to this, right?" Angelie said as she cleaned up the leftover plates.

"It is mostly just a mother thing." I shrugged, folding up yet another onesie for our son and setting it on my lap.

"I guess, I just wanted him to feel included. He made it seem like he should be here. He is probably just getting anxious with my due date being so close and he doesn't want to be away from me when my water breaks." She sat next to me.

"How has it been? Being back together I mean, I know it was really hard before the proposal but it is easier now." I pressed my lips.

"I mean, the media still watches us like vultures. I have just been avoiding it more, I have read a couple over the past few months but honestly, I don't think I care anymore. I love Jeffrey and we are the only people who know our relationship inside and out. The media is just photo hungry." She nodded

We talked, if we had discussed our wedding plans yet. I laughed and shook my head.

"Most definitely not. After he proposed, we…..um."

I remembered that just seven months ago, we were in that closet at Rose's wedding.

"We didn't really have time to discuss wedding plans because….well, here we are." She chuckled and nodded.

"Well, I am happy for you both either way."

"Thanks, Angelie." I smiled.

Just as we finished cleaning up the venue, the door opened and I turned to see Jeffrey walking into the room.

"Hi, Princess." He gave me an apologetic smile.

"I am so sorry I couldn't be here." His lips immediately crushed mine and placed his hand on my stomach.

"Work was a mess and we finally fixed it but it took an hour too long…."

"Jeffrey, it is fine." I stopped him and he placed his hand over mine.

"It is not like the president's wife was here or something and besides, did you really want to hang out in a room full of women drinking lemonade and gushing about babies for the last three hours?" He shrugged with a small smirk.

"Well, if my beautiful fiancee was among those women. Then yes, I really wanted to be there." I shook my head with the blush creeping onto my cheeks.

"Even when I look like a beached whale, you still make me feel like the most beautiful woman on this planet." He reached over and tucked my hair behind my ear, his fingers caressing my cheek.

"Because you are. You are beautiful even with the pregnancy."

"I love you," I whispered.

"I love you more."
