Chapter sixty-two: Great Minds Think Alike
Chapter sixty-two: Great Minds Think Alike
Jessica
The next morning, the brightness of the room woke me up and I stretched my limbs as I let out a tired yawn. Jeffrey rolled over next to me, looking at me with his eyes as bright as ever.
"Merry Christmas, Princess." He smiled sleepily.
His voice was incredibly raspy this morning and I didn't know why it was suddenly happening now but the butterflies were incredibly evident in my stomach.
"Merry Christmas, Jeffrey." I leaned over to press a kiss on his forehead.
"Well, come on then, we have got a present to open."
He hopped out of the bed and went to the bathroom, quickly brushing his teeth. I soon realized how cold it was in the house this morning and I quickly put on some sweatpants. He then rushed to the door but stopped when he saw that I was still in the bed.
"Come on, Princess." I groaned into the pillow but I still had to laugh at this persistence.
"Give me a second, let me brush my teeth first." He sighed in defeat.
"Okay," he responded.
When I walked downstairs, I saw him standing in the living room, a Santa Claus hat on top of his messy hair as he began pulling gifts out from under the tree. As I walked down the stairs, I laughed at his confusion when he pulled out the box that was addressed to him from me.
"What is this?" He questioned.
"I can't tell you what it is before you open it. Don't you know how Christmas works, Jeffrey?"
"You didn't have to buy me a gift though, Princ….."
"Hahaha," I stopped him.
"I know that but I wanted to. You do a lot for me and you buy a lot for me, the least I can do is return the favor." He gave me that look but shook his head.
"Thank you, Princess. I appreciate your thoughtfulness."
"You are welcome. So are you opening them now or are we just going to look at them?"
I laughed and he sat down in front of the tree, pulling me with him. He examined all the boxes before pulling one out and handing it to me.
"This one first." He said with an eager smile.
I tore off the wrapping paper to reveal a sleek black box and iphone 13 promax printed on it. I looked at him in shock and he held his hands up in defense.
"Before you say anything, I thought long and hard before purchasing this but I figured while you were in college and I am here. We can FaceTime each other whenever we can, besides your phone is horrendous and you have needed a new one for decades."
"Thank you, Jeffrey." He leaned over and pressed a kiss to my temple and then I reached forward to grab his first gift.
"Here, open it."
He sighed through his nose and tore the wrapping off, revealing the small box with the Rolex logo printed in gold. His jaw dropped just the slightest and he looked at me.
"You did not." I shrugged as he took the lid off and he smiled widely at the brand new silver watch in front of him.
"Oh my goodness, Jessica."
"I didn't know what style you would like." I shrugged.
"But it looked really nice and I figured the silver one would match your everyday outfits and….."
He stopped my rambling by kissing me and I felt my nerves slowly fading away.
"I love it," he said as he pulled away.
"Thank you so much, my Princess."
"You are welcome." I smiled and he set his box aside before handing me another smaller one.
"I only got you two gifts." He admitted.
"I figured you would give me a lecture if I bought you more." I giggled and nodded.
"Probably but I do appreciate everything you have bought for me. You know that, right?" He nodded with a proud smile.
"Of course I do, now open up."
I started tearing off the package and discovered it was a small brown jewelry box. I felt my heart jump into my throat and l looked at him.
"What is this?"
"Open it," he smiled.
My shaky hands finally managed to flip open the lid, a sparkling ring nestled into the black velvet. It didn't look like an engagement ring though but I was too shocked to see it as anything but.
"Here," he said and reached over, pulling out the ring and showing me the details.
"It has two diamonds, one for me and one for you and on the inside." He flipped it to show the engraved letter on the metal.
"It also has two little wings with our initials on either side of them."
I felt my eyes swelling with tears and he grabbed my hand, slipping the ring onto my finger.
"It is a promise that no matter what, we will remain loyal even when we aren't together.
"Oh my goodness l, Jeffrey. I love it, thank you so much."
I swiftly pressed a kiss to his lips feeling on top of the world at this moment. I felt even better about giving him my gift and he could tell I was giddy about it when I rushed for him to open it.
"Holy shit, Princess. Is this…."
"Pretty much the same thing I got you right?" I finished his sentence.
He pulled the gold chain necklace out of the box examining the ring pendant at the end.
"I got it engraved and you can wear it as a necklace or as a ring. It also has two little wings on the outside.
"Clearly, great minds think alike." He smirked and I nodded in agreement.
"Thank you so much, Princess. I love it."
He kissed me again but this time with more passion. He placed a hand on my neck, holding me close. I could taste the lingering of peppermint from his toothpaste.
He moaned into my mouth as he slipped his tongue between my lips, his hand moving to my lower back and slipping his finger underneath my shirt.
We stayed there enjoying each other's embrace.
