Chapter twenty-six: We Will Fix It
Chapter twenty-six: We Will Fix It
Jessica
"Jeffrey, you have been off ever since yesterday." I started, he looked slightly taken aback but I knew he understood what I was referring to.
"I don't know what you are talking about?" He said with a sassy tone.
"Yes, you do." I crossed my arms.
"You were going to tell me something and then blew it off. What is going on?" He shook his head.
He stood up from his seat and pulled his trousers up a little higher on his hips.
"It is nothing, Jessica. Seriously, don't worry about it."
I pressed my lips together and refrained from saying anything else. I could tell he was getting a little annoyed with my persistence but I desperately wanted to know what he was keeping from me.
"Fine, but you know you can tell me anything, right?"
"Of course, I do."
I could hear Jorge's voice outside his office, he looked towards the door and frowned and then looked back at me.
"What the hell is going on?" He muttered.
Suddenly, the door opened and a very tall brunette woman walked in. Her lips painted pink and her eyes as green as the forest leaves. She smiled immediately at Jeffrey before scowling at the sight of me.
"Jeffrey, sweetheart. Who is this?"
"Dude, I am sorry." Jorge said behind her.
"Juliet is not on her desk….."
"Gladys?" He blurted, ignoring Jorge's apologies and I could see his body tensing.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Come to say hello, of course. Anyway, who is she?"
"None of your business." He responded before I could do so.
To be quite honest, she was a little intimidating and I felt extremely uncomfortable in this situation.
"Jorge, could you please escort her out?"
"I feel as though I have the right to know, Jeffrey." She smiled, completely oblivious to him clearly not wanting her here. She moved away from Jorge's reach and Jeffrey rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.
"She is one of my models, can you leave now please? Now is not a good time." She looked slightly taken aback and her eyes began flickering between the two of us.
"Jeffrey, are you…..oh my gosh."
"Am I what?" He was losing his patience with every passing second.
"You two are shagging, aren't you?" My mouth dropped.
"What? No, of course not, Gladys. Now please see your way out before I call the security."
"You wouldn't dare." She sneered.
"And besides, she looks like she is twelve anyway."
"Excuse me?" I said, who does she think she is?
"Be quiet, little girl. The adults are talking, why don't you run along and go play in a sandbox or something." Gladys said, I bit my cheeks to keep myself from saying anything else but she was making it hard.
"Gladys, I am not going to repeat myself. Please see her out of the building." She huffed, sending one more glare my way.
"You can always come back when you and done playing whatever game this is. You know my door was always open for you." She said, turning on her heel and leaving the office with Jorge. Jeffrey's hands went straight to his face, rubbing his tired eyes and groaning.
"I am sorry you had to witness that, she has been doing this for a week now."
I was silent, was this what he had been keeping from me? She was his ex-wife, why was coming here and what were they doing?
"Jessica?" My eyes stayed to my feet, I didn't want to look at him.
"Jessica, what is wrong?" I closed my eyes for a moment to prevent any tears from falling.
"Was this… what you were trying to tell me but you couldn't?" My eyes met with his, he frowned and looked from the door to me.
"What? No that's not what this was. I had no idea she was coming."
At this point, I couldn't control my tears anymore.
"Baby, please don't cry." He bent down to my level, wiping away my tears but I don't want to look at him anymore.
"Princess, I am so sorry." He whispered.
"I am sorry I didn't tell you, she just started popping up a few weeks ago and…."
"If you want to get back with her, I understand." He suddenly looked taken aback and gave me a look.
"Why on earth would I ever go back to her?"
"Obviously, you both are still a thing. I saw the ring on her finger. Why don't I just go, I will be back for the shoot on Saturday but please, just…. don't." His hands dropped from mine and his lips parted in shock.
"W…what? Princess, what are you…."
"Please, don't call me that." I backed away from his reach.
"I just want to go home."
"Jessica, please believe me…."
"Jeffrey, you won't tell me anything." My voice was starting to raise and I was a little afraid his employees could hear us.
"You told me I could trust you but clearly that wasn't true."
"You can trust me, my Princess."
"No, Jeffrey, I really don't. I thought I could but I always get my hopes up for the wrong people."
He looked utterly defeated at this moment, I really wanted to hug him, kiss him or any sort of contact but it felt wrong. It felt wrong for me to go back to someone who had been lying to me since the beginning.
"Jessica, wait." He blurted as I reached the doorknob.
"What, Jeffrey?"
He parted his lips to speak, yet still no words came out. I rolled my eyes and opened the door, not wanting to hear it anymore. Janice was at Juliet's desk chatting, I forced a smile when they both looked at me and I motioned her for us to leave.
"So, how was the meeting?" She asked as we got to the car and I shook my head.
"Fine, I am doing another shoot on Saturday."
"Well, that is good." It was almost as if she was expecting a different answer.
"Anything else happened?"
"Yes, um, his ex-wife showed up."
"Whoa, what? Back the fuck up, where did she come from?"
"I don't know….she just appeared. He told me she had been visiting for a week and I had no idea."
"Are you kidding me? I thought he was a keeper, he should have told you about her a long time ago.
"Why should he? I am just his sugar baby." She looked at me solemnly.
"I am sorry, Jessica."
"It is not your fault." I shrugged.
"It is somehow my fault, I told you to go for it, I feel bad."
"Don't feel bad."
"You know what?" A grin formed on her face.
"If he is going to have fun behind your back then we are going to have fun behind his back as well."
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"Saturday night, we are getting fucking trashed."
***Jeffrey pov***
I was full of emotions when I went home from work, I was pissed, upset, angry, sad and the worst of all was Jessica was more than likely done with me and it was all my fault. I could have prevented it and just told her, there were so many things that I should have told her.
I sat on my couch, my phone in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. My thumb had been lingering over her name on my contacts list for the past fifteen minutes but I couldn't bring myself to press the call button. She didn't listen to me at the office, would she even answer my calls?
I downed the rest of my alcohol before calling her, praying she would at least pick up. But she ignored and the call went to voicemail. I tossed the phone aside and went back to my bar counter, pouring my glass with whiskey. Gladys ruined everything and all I wanted was a drink.
The more I thought about it, but the more I knew I was the one to blame. Jessica trusted me with her whole being and I couldn't even tell her that my crazy ex-wife came back to haunt me and that I…whatever. It doesn't matter now, she is upset with me and I am left alone again.
Less than an hour, I had already emptied my bar. I tried calling Jessica a couple of times but thankfully she never picked up, she would be even more pissed off discovering my intoxicated state.
An annoying knock on the door caught my attention, I rolled off the couch and slumped towards the door and turned the knob, pulling it open and seeing Sam on the other side.
"Hey, dude." He smiled and then gave a confused look.
"Whoa, are you drunk?" I shrugged.
"No, I haven't drank that much." I walked away from him.
"Are you seriously getting like this again?" I placed my glass on the counter and sent him a scowl.
"What are you talking about?"
"You are drunk on a Monday, you have got so much work to do before the weekend."
"So?" I shrugged, grabbing another bottle.
"You are not my mother." He rolled his eyes and walked over to me, taking the bottle away from me.
"What the hell, Sam?"
"Jeffrey, seriously. What is going on?"
"Nothing really…"
"It is nothing, you would be working for the vogue shoot instead of getting drunk." I groaned, running a hand through my hair.
" Stupid Gladys," I shook my head.
"Gladys? I thought you guys were done?"
"We are but she just showed up a couple of weeks ago and she won't leave. She……she drove Jessica away."
"Wow, so she found out?"
"I mean, not really. I told her Jessica was a model but she didn't believe me or something. I don't know, Jessica thinks I cheated on her."
"Didn't you tell her that Gladys had come back?" I pressed my lips and he took my silence as an answer.
Jeffrey, why would you do that?" I could feel disappointment dripping in his tone.
"I didn't think it would be a problem! I didn't think they would ever meet, I thought Gladys would finally get the hint that I was through with her and get the hell out of my life. Now Jessica is gone and I just…."
"Okay, slow down. We will fix this, let me call Rose."
