Chapter 66
He went straight into his room. Took off his clothes and had a cool nice bath. It was a long bath. And when he came out of his room, food was served and Ray called him to the dinning table. Where he ate while humming a song. The two men in the house knew something was up. And for Rowan, he knew nothing would stop him from achieving the conglomerate sooner as everything would surely end the way he want and he was sure about that!.
While Rowan was trying to enjoy the moment, he suddenly remembered Mr. Kang actions when he was being taken away by the police officers at the meeting earlier. He couldn't believe his eyes then... Mr Kung was emotional and claimed to know him from his child hood. What does it mean?
Rowan didn't go back to the office, it was of no use. So, he stayed at home and worked from there.. Ray helped him check all that needed to be checked and all files that needed to be attended to.. Anything he couldn't check on, he sent Ray instead. Ray knew his boss very well and was also Rowan's trusted staff. So, Ray representing him was just the same. And secretly, he was also waiting for Sapphire's call. He knew that since the truth is out. She must want to contact him and request for her old man to be released.
'Did, did she call yet?" Rowan asked and Ray shook his head. As he stared at his boss in disbelief. He knew what happened at the office but, he didn't expect his boss to be asking after her.
'No, she haven't." He knew who his boss was asking after. It was the third time he answered such a question that day and he wondered if his boss wanted to hear her voice so desperately. Did he like her already? But he knew that was a lie. Rowan would never fall in love as his heart was literally made of stone and totally cold. So, there was no way he could have fall in love with her!.
But Jack found it really funny and fun! He smiled as he looked at his boss.
The following day, Rowan was quick to wake up like he always did but the first thing he did was to check his phone to see if Sapphire had called but she didn't call nor send a text message. Rowan wasn't bothered about what she was planning because he knew he would always win but he needed her to come to him to beg so that they could negotiate and she could release the man that she captured while he was trailing her. One thing about Alex was that he never joked with the lives of the men that worked for him and he saw and took them as a family member. So, seeing one being locked up was giving him lots and lots of headaches. He didn't need to put someone to trail Sapphire but he decided to do it because he knew Sapphire would do that too but she was smart enough to capture his man!. He prepared early and left the house while putting everything else behind his mind for the mean time.. He has to be at the office and work on the other tasks he couldn't finish the previous day due to work. Though he acted like everything was fine, it still showed on his face that he was worried. Worried of the what would happen to the man.Worried of what his opponent might be plotting against him with the man. She was supposed to contact him before now but, not even a missed call or flash was seen. But then, he knew how ready he was as well. He wasn't scared, there was no need to be.
Sapphire also left the house quiet early just like Rowan.. Her driver, who had a bad night due to the troubles he went through while running around to help Old lan with Sapphire yesterday, drove her straight to old Mr. Hollard home. The oldest official of the conglomerate who might advice her or help her out of the bullshit she got herself in. when she got there, she was glad Rowan wasn't seen, Unlike the day she visited Mr. Kang, only to see Rowan parking as well. Unknown to her that Rowan was aware of her movement but found it less fun to be stalking around. He had other better things to do. And again, he knew the old man can't be bought just like that. He was respected and highly regarded because of his discipline. Old Mr Hollard was popularly known for his strictness and honesty and that was why he was hated by most of the officials as he would never side them in doing partiality no matter how enticing the offer might be.
'Hello sir!" Sapphire called out as she spotted the old man standing near his garden. And when she called him, he gently turned to her direction.
Sapphire met Mrs. Hollard at the door when she was coming in and She was the one who told her where to find the old man. He loved to stay out in the early morning as It was actually one of his hobbies.
When Mr. Hollard saw Sapphire, a wry frown could be seen on his face but it soon disappeared, just as if he never had the look in the first place but Sapphire saw it and she felt ashamed. The scene of what she and her Old Lan did in the official meeting flashed in her head. She was so bold to point fingers at Roman in front of the officials. Even when Mr. Hollard talked at the meeting, she knew things wouldn't remain the same and it wouldn't be so simple anymore. But, it wasn't her fault. She thought it was true and wanted him exposed.
'What are you doing here?" Mr. Hollard asked with a frown.
'I am here to see you." Sapphire sounded brave. Earlier, she could barely say a word but she was quick to remind herself that she was a brave girl who had faced a lot in life. She was always strong and she would remain that way till the end ...
'Why?" Mr. Hollard turned his back on Sapphire and it hurt her even more. Maybe, if she had manners, she won't be in such a difficult position. But was she really regretting her manners?
"My secretary confessed he did it." It pained her that she was about to ask for assistance but, what could she have done? Complicate things the more? Hell No!. She had to play cool to get what she wants. Then, the real game could start after that.'And i don't know what next to do. I don't know if Rowan will release him and that is why i have come to ask you, to talk to Rowan." She added.
Mr. Hollard didn't hate her or sided Rowan. He just felt she lacked home training and respect no one. If only she was a bit more like Rowan, she would have been loved so much by the officials.
He finally turned to face her, trying not to show his anger. It was still morning and he didn't want anything or anyone to ruin his mood.
'Have you called him yet?" He asked so calmly. His cold stare made Sapphire look away.
'No, i haven't. I don't know if i should." Sapphire answered. She wanted to look anywhere but not at his face. He always looked serious and harsh.
'You should have before coming here. You don't expect me to say something when you've not tried. What exactly were you expecting me to do? Was i the offender? Do you not think i would become a suspect? I can only help you if, you have already done the needful. I'm sure, you are not even sorry."
'I though..." Sapphire was yet to complete her words.
"You thought what? Tell me? You claim to be a business woman but can't boldly face your problems? Is that how you wish to handle the conglomerate?" He didn't need to say it, Sapphire knew what he meant. She was angry at the way he was talking to her. Like, how dare him? She folded her left hand into a fist and wish to bury it on the old man's face.
Mr. Hollard didn't want it to be like he was siding Rowan. He felt, he was telling her the truth. The real truth about it all. She was good in the business world but, she wasn't a professional and can't be compared with her opponent. Mr. Hollard loved how Rowan played and how he showed respect and acted calm no matter how his buttons were pushed.
'I will leave now." Sapphire finally uttered as she couldn't take it anymore. Even the head of the officials was looking down on her. And she promised to show him, she was a suitable match for it. She didn't tell him but, she made the promise in her mind.
After leaving Mr. Corners house, she entered her car and tried to calm herself down. Of she knew it was going to be an insult, she won't have dared to visit. He was an annoying old man.
'It didn't go well?" The driver asked as he turned back to look at her. One would tell she didn't have a good night rest. Her eyes looked puff.
'So because I'm a woman, they look down on me. They think i can't get that position?" Sapphire asked as if she was referring it to the driver. The poor middle aged man just stared at her like he was watching a TV show of his favorite characters.
'I know you can." Mr. Joel the driver uttered as if trying to encourage her not to give up. He knew her to be brave and intelligent, a strong woman that fought her way up, all alone. No siblings, no parents, no lover. The only thing was her lack of respect. She acts like she could get anything.
'Thanks. So what is next?" She said and her eyes met with Mr. Joels'.
'I should be asking you that. Maybe go back home?" Mr. Joel suggested with a smile on his face.
Sapphire was quiet for about a minute before concluding on something. The more she wasted time, the more Old Lan would stay in jail. It was obvious no one was going to help her. They didn't want to be on the bad side. So she thought but the truth was, her attitude was creating enemies. She had to do something to help Old Lan, 'Take me to Roman." She uttered with a low tone.
Mr. Joel understood her and nodded, 'Okay. Put on your seat belt." He reminded her.
However, the drive to the company was very quiet. And as soon as the car parked near the entrance, Sapphire got out without a word. She looked so determined and Mr. Joel wondered what the poor lady was up to. Though he wished everyone would understand her just like him and Old Lan does.
Mr. Roman was so busy checking out all the paperwork when Sapphire banged the door open and walked in. Behind her was his secretary. She looked fearful and gave her boss a sad look. She had earlier tried to stop Sapphire from coming in but, she just didn't want to listen. And the lady knew if it continues, she would one day kiss her well paid job a goodbye.
'Your new habit of banging in without permission is quite impressive." Roman smiled at their direction.
'It is not like you're banging a girl and doesn't want anyone in. This is an office not your house." Sapphire responded and the secretary behind her almost cried.
'Sir, I am so..." His secretary, Angelina didn't even finish her sentence. Roman knew she tried her best to stop Sapphire, so, why blame the lady.
'It is fine. You can leave." Roman answered calmly with his eyes still on Sapphire. Angelina left them but was still not sure her boss has forgiven her. It was the second time such a thing was happening. And after the secretary left Roman turned to Sapphire, 'You see how you scared her?" He asked.
Sapphire rolled her eyes and sat down without being permitted to, 'And so?" She asked back. Roman shook his head in disappointment. He almost forgot she was a savage.
'Uhmmmm..." Roman breathed heavily and sighed. He just overlooked her presence and continued with what he was doing. Well, he was excited knowing for the fact that she came because of her arrested secretary. Her pride didn't let her come sooner. He didn't care.
'You should know the reason i came." Sapphire suddenly uttered.
"Only if you didn't bang in and sit without permission. But, i should still ask, right? So tell me Miss Sapphire, what brings you here? Or have you come here to pick up on me? Or yes, you got a proof to my crime?" Roman asked with a mockery tone and it got her upset.
'Nice one. You can try better than that." She paused and studied Roman but as usual, he just only smiled back.
"What do you want?" Roman looked serious as he asked. He didn't have all the time in the world to exchange words with a lady that has no manners and sees herself like a goddess of which he doesn't see.
'Release my secretary." She just ordered and Roman looked stunned. He couldn't believe her guts. The way she said it.
"Is that a command or you're begging me to?" Roman's question kept her speechless for a minute or two, 'I can leave him there for as long as i want. Or have you forgotten the reason for his arrest?" He added.
Sapphire knew he was right. She didn't know how to beg. She has never done that.
"I know but, what is the point of keeping an old man in jail. He suffered alot already." She defended but it made Roman annoyed the more.
'He should have thought about that when he tried to tannish my reputation and boldly called the police on me. He really got the guts. How are my sure he is not a long time wanted criminal." Roman said with a serious look on.
"Old Lan only did it for me. He is not a criminal." She hated the fact that Roman was correct and they had to conclude on something, "So what do you want me to do?" She forced herself to ask and Roman burst out laughing. He couldn't believe what he heard. Was she giving up already?
'Ha ha ha ha... What did you say?" He asked with a bold smile. Enjoying the moment and would have paid any amount of money to see the angry look on Sapphire's face.
