Chapter 13 - Unexpected events

***Callums pov***

Its about 2 pm when I arrive at the zoo.
By the entrance there is a big board, a large map showing the layout of the area. I locate the wolves and head in that direction. I keep my distance when I pass other animals, well aware that they can feel what I am.
When I reach the wolves’ enclosure, I look around. It’s pretty empty. Some teenagers on a school trip pass by. A mother with a stroller and a few older couples walking around, enjoying the nice weather. But I don’t see the girl from my dream.
I find a bench to sit on and decide to wait awhile. What else can I do? This is the only lead I have and if she doesn’t show up I will return tomorrow.
I probably should check in with Reece. Our last conversation comes to mind.
I decide to contact him later, knowing that if there was an emergency, I would hear from him.

I walk up to the fence, seeing a young wolf watching me. He keeps his distance as he feels what I am, but he stays as if he wants to keep an eye on me.
My nostrils flares when the most intoxicating scent hits me. Red roses and ripe strawberries. I do not dare to move. My heart is pounding in my chest and my wolf is howling in my head. Motherfucker! I need to calm down, I can feel my wolf pushing to get through. I breathe in thru my nose and exhale thru my mouth a few times, pushing my wolf back. And then I feel it. Her gaze on me, roaming up and down my body, leaving a hot trail. I feel the stir in my pants when the warm feeling lingering on my skin. I close my eyes, steadying my self. I’m in so much trouble.
“Do you want a picture” I ask with a hint of cockiness in my voice, without turning around.
“Yummy!” Her voice was soft. Wait, what? Did I just hear that right?
I turned around, and in front of me was the most beautiful girl, woman Ive ever seen. Her light brown hair flowing around her heart-shaped face, down over her back and shoulders, beautiful green, almond-shaped eyes framed by thick long lashes. Natural tanned skin with small freckles on her button nose and her cheeks, full pink lips.
“Eh, thank you, I guess” I said, chuckling, trying to give her a charming smile hoping she doesn’t notice the blush on my face or the tremble in my voice.
Her eyes widen and her mouth fall open.
“No!! The wolfs name is Yummy,” She says, pointing to the young wolf by the fence behind me.
She walk pass me. Kneeling in front of the fence. The young wolf immediately forgets about me and starts fuzzing and goofing for her attention, which he receives and I can’t help feeling a little jealous when I see her soft lips pressed against his nose.
She is talking to him, cooing and scratching him. Suddenly a few more wolves appears, I can sense they are happy to se her, but they are guarded against me.
One of them try to get her attention.
“You want me to follow you Handsome?” I hear her say and my heart speeds up. I look down at her just to realize that she is talking to the wolf.
“Do you usually communicate with them?” I ask her.
She flinch, like she forgot I was there. Did she? She stands up, peering at me.
“Eh..he he..it’s hard to explain” she mumbles and turns back looking at the fence.
Fuck! She is so adorable. I just want to take her into my arms and kiss her. I put my hands in the pockets of my jeans as if I don’t trust myself, pinching the skin of my groin. Down boy! I think both to my self and to my wolf.
“Sir, may I bother you with something?” She ask. Goddess, that voice!
“Sir? I hope I dont look that old,” I chuckle. “But, yes, you may” I say. Trying to keep cool.
“I really need to get in to the wolves, she starts.
My hands leaves my pockets and I cross my arms over my chest and look over at the wolves.
She continues, “You are tall and look like a strong guy, I dont weigh much, if I can get up on your shoulders..”
I look up at the fence, it would be a simple thing getting her over. The wolves won’t hurt her, I would feel any animosity between them and there is none. They only feel love and respect for her.
“What's your name?” I ask. I really need a name on the beauty before me.
“My name?” She frowns, as if it wasn’t important. “My name is Hope” she answer.
Hope, I think to myself, if she only knew she in fact was my hope, my last hope.
Then I saw the opportunity to get to know her
“Ok Hope” I say, my eyes locked on hers
“Ok?” she says as if checking that she heard me right.
“Sure, Ill help you, on one condition. I’ll come with you, it would feel awful if I stayed here and watched you get eaten, and if you miraculously survive in there, we’ll have a coffee because then I have to get to know the crazy girl in front of me” I tell her.
“Thats two, but ok, lets do this” She agrees, impatient to get in.
I squat down a little and she puts a foot on my thigh and a hand on my shoulder and I’m about to melt under her touch so I grit my teeth together and counts to five while she climbs up and before I know it she leaves my shoulders and swings over the fence.
My girl got skills, I think to myself baffled.
While she is busy with the wolf apparently named Handsome, I easily jump over the fence and land behind her.
We follow the wolves and soon we see what I suspect is the rest of the family. I recognise the Alpha, both from my dream and the pictures online. I can also see his female. She is laying down, and the pain is radiating from her.
Hope stops and bends over a little, holding her stomach as if she’s hurt.
“Hey, are you okay?” I whisper to her, concerned and ready to carry her back out.
“Yeah, yeah, im fine” She answers, her eyes on the Alpha. He is watching us and I feel him sensing what I am. I tone down my aura, showing him I’m not a threat.
“Hey daddy, hey goofy boy, you know me, right” I hear Hope addressing the Alpha,
She puts a hand on my chest, making me stop and stay put. Heat spreads through my body and I shiver as she takes the hand back.
She pushes past the wolves, to the alpha couple and gets on her hands and knees, letting him sniff her. Showing him who she is. And he does, he sniffs her hair and her face but as his nose approaches the crook of her neck a growl erupts from my chest.
How dare he? I feel my wolf, he wants to rip him apart for being so close to her.
Then I witness something that almost knocks me to the ground. She is challenging him, demanding his submission. I feel waves of power rolling off her, my own wolf whines and shows his neck in my head.
“Move!” I hear her say, her voice much deeper than before and I understand the Luna is taking a break from her nap. The Alpha lowers his head and backs away.
She crawls up to the sick female, cradling her, stroking her fur and whispers to her.
After a while, she gets up quickly and turns to me.
“If you are scared or easily disgusted, leave now, otherwise I need your help.” She says, looking at me with a plead in her green eyes.
“I’m good, what do you need?” I answer, I'll help her with anything!
“She’s pregnant and the pups are stuck, I have to go in and help them out or they will die” “I need you to hold her” she explains and shows me before taking her place behind the female. I can feel my face turning a little green, but I swallow it down, focusing on the task before me.
I hold the female, talking and massaging her, while turning down the alpha part, I still send waves of calmness and encouragement through my aura, keeping her from getting stressed.
“Hey!” I look up to the sound of her soft voice, seeing her smile at me.
“I will give you the pups, put them in front of her, she will have to do the rest” She tells me. She closes her eyes, concentrating while her hand works on the female. Beads of sweat are covering her skin, making strands of her hair get stuck to her forehead.
Her eyes open and a big smile forms on her face as she hands me the first pup.

Four puppies later it's over. The female is licking her babies, the Alpha is licking her and the rest is sniffing around the newcomers.
I lock eyes with Hope, again baffled and amazed by the woman in front of me. She smiles, tears running down her cheeks, and then her eyes roll back and she collapses to the ground.

Thirty minutes later I’m sitting in my car, wondering if I’m about to make a big mistake.
