Chapter 8 - Mistakes

Selene is still stoking my hair as I stir awake. I open my eyes and look up at her.
Her gaze is far away.
“Selene?” my voice comes out weak, but she hears me and turns down her head to look at me with her colorful eyes.
“Good morning Aayla.” She says, caressing my cheek.
“How long was I out?” I ask, my body feeling well rested.
“For as long as you needed, time with me works a little different” She smiles.
“Where were you? I ask
“On earth, watching over my children” She answers, a small smile on her lips.

I sit up, rubbing the remains of sleep out of my eyes and off my face.
“Can you please tell me the rest of the story?” I pleaded.
She nodded and returned to her memories.

*"As the sun set and the moon rose in the sky, my son took his woman in his arms.
he kissed her deep. He took her hand and placed it over his heart. “Yours” he said to her, still not used to the human way of communicating. “Mine” she answered him and gave him the biggest and happiest smile.
He was nervous and frowned, knowing what he had to do. He let his canines elongate and looked her deep in the eyes, searching for any sign of fear.
There was none.
He kissed her again. Her lips, her cheeks, her jaw and her neck. When he came to the crook of her neck, he deepened the kiss, sucking and nibbling on her soft skin, all while listening to her heart for any sign of fear.
There was none.
He penetrated her skin, pushing his teeth slowly and carefully through her flesh until he reached her soul. He lingered for a bit, feeling a bond form between them and then he heard the most beautiful noise, a moan from his woman’s lips.
In my joy I sent flashes of lightning branched out across the sky to celebrate their love, making their skin tingle magically. He pulled out, licked the blood away from her skin, helping the wound heal, and stared into her beautiful green eyes. Tears of happiness rolled down her cheeks. *“Yours”* *she said to him.* *“Mine”* *he answered her.*

*She took him back to her village. He was hesitant at first, not trusting the humans, but she promised him they were good people, devoted to the Heaven. And what was he if not a gift from the Heaven? And she was right. All the people loved him as one of their own, and saw him as a protector of the village, all but one. The man who lost the woman promised to him. His name was Ambrogio. He tried to kill my son but as my son shifted into his wolf Ambrogio knew he was defeated, so he fled, but not before he promised that he one day would return to claim what was his.*

*Furious, Ambrogio called to his Father in heaven. Accused him of neglecting his own son in favor of a dirty animal.
My brother is nothing if not fair, so he offered Ambrogio a gift.
He would make him close to immortal to give him time to find a new love. He would give him strength and speed to protect the once close to him. But he had some conditions. Ambrogio could never use his gifts to intentionally inflict pain on anyone else. He could never return to the village he came from to harm the wolf or the woman. These were his rules, if broken, Ambrogio would be banished from the light, forced to live his life in darkness. .
Ambrogio accepted his father’s gifts but his heart was still angry.*
*“Dont disappoint me my son, or you will never be able to look at my glory without agony again”* *his father told him.*

*As the years went by our couple lived happily and in peace. My son was the protector of the village and also the one providing meat from his hunts. The village flourished and grew. Seeing the other families grow the woman also wanted a child, a union of their love. My son knew what this would mean and tried to convince her it was unnecessary. Their love was all they needed. But every day he saw her longing for a pup growing stronger and erasing the happiness off her beautiful face, in the end, he couldn’t deny her, he loved her to much.
Under the nine months of her pregnancy, he worshiped and loved her like a queen. He didn’t leave her side, and at nights, after they made love, he watched her sleep in his arms.
The woman gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl. Eyes as green as her mothers with a sprinkle of blue from her father.
As they lay in bed that night, the woman and child both safe in his arms
she looks up at him, love in her eyes and she is glowing with happiness. She kisses him deep.
He kisses her back, savoring the taste of her, hoping he will remember it in the afterlife. He kisses her lips, her cheeks and her neck. As his lips roam her skin he inhales deeply, her scent, one of red roses, filling his heart.*
*-I love you both so much, she says to him.*
*-I know, because I love you both the same” he answered and then he drew his last breath.”*
A tear is falling from Selenes eye, rolling down her smooth cheek.

“Wait, what?” I asked, a bit confused.
“Do you remember my brothers terms? she asked.
“If the day would come, when she didn`t love him with all her heart, he would die.
My brother didn’t even think of this, and normally he is very meticulous.”
“Oh..” I frown, my heart breaking for the couple.
“You never told me their names” I say
She hesitated, and drew her breath.
“Her name was Mateivia and she named him Mateusz. They called eachother Mate” she answered with pain in her voice and eyes.
As realisation hits me, I shiver. It cant be…
“Mateivia…What was the name of their daughter?” My voice comes out trembling and broken.
Selene holds my face, wiping away the tears I didn’t know were running down my cheeks with her thumbs.
“Oh, sweet sweet child. Their daughter’s name is Aayla. Their daughter is you.”

If my body was here, or if I was in my body, I would probably fight for air right now.
I felt warm, still cold from sweat covered my skin. But I was dry, I had no skin, I was not here, still I was…my head was spinning…
“Easy, child,” Serene was cooing me. Stroking my hair and collecting my tears.
“I’m so sorry Aayla, so sorry you have to go through this,” I hear her voice in a distance.
“I wished the world did not need you, but it does, you are needed Aayla! Her plead going straight to my heart.
“Needed for what? I asked, trying to get my head straight. I was really starting to doubt the sincerity of my mind.
“To defeat Ambrogio, you are the only one that can, my child. Selene answering me.
“I unbound your wolf with my bite, she will heal you and make you strong”

I stand up, taking a few steps, feeling the soft green grass between my toes.
“I’m only a girl, even as a wolf. How can I defeat what I saw in the cave?” I ask, looking down at the Goddess.

“You will have what you ask for to aid you. Your blood is Ambrogio’s curse. It won’t kill him but it will make him weak”
My head kept spinning. I wanted that monster dead, more than anything I wanted him dead for what he did to my mother..my village..my people…but it was all to much.
I took a deep breath and turned to Selene.
“I want you to send me back now..send me back to my body” My voice came out cold.
“My sweet child…” Selene started
“But I´m not, am I? You made sure of that when you bound my soul, making me weak and sick! You did not want me then! If you had accepted me then perhaps I could have saved my people!” The familiar fire is back in my chest and I glare at Selene, furious.
“I am so sorry Aayla..I wish we had done things differently my siblings and I, we made the mistakes that haunts us to day, never doubt I know what we have done, but now Aayla, now I beg you to help us..” Her voice desperate and her eyes pleading.
“Just take me back, I need to think and I can only do that in my own world and my own body”..my voice is small but she hear me and comes up to put her hands on my cheeks. She then kiss my lips and before I can say or do anything, everything turns dark.
