Chapter 50 - A beautiful dream
**Ambrogios pov**
It’s been three days since we said goodbye to Dunkan. We all mourned him, me the most. Over the years my children has spread. They all answer to me but I won’t force them to stay under my roof, and with the numbers it would be impossible.
But they all came home to say goodbye to Duncan and to join the funeral.
After the ceremony, the highest in command, the generals stayed to leave reports, both on the humans and the wolves. We discussed and planned for the future, should we press harder? Turn more humans for cannon food? The opinions were as many as the generals and I rubbed my temples to keep calm. I glanced over to the left corner of the table. Tony, short for Antonio was unusually quiet. He was a pureblood, born, not turned and a free spirit, not much for the war but if it came down to it, he would stand with his kind even though I know he is fucking all kinds. There had only been a few purebloods over the years. They are stronger, making them great generals. They had better physique and they weren’t as pale and fragile as a turned child. Now, one of my pureblood were missing, Fredrick, killed or captured by the Great Falls wolves.
Hearing about the attack had made me furious, this was not my command. Normally, I wouldn’t pay much attention to it, if my kids wanted to kill some wolves, well..It’s what they are created to do..But Great Falls..the home of Zandra..that was something completely different. The generals coming back from that attack was now in chains, being punished with dehydration.
“Tony, you are quiet today.. I say out loud, silencing the room and direct everyone’s attention to him.
Tony kept quiet for a while, tapping his pen at the table before clearing his throat.
“Hrm..My king..Father..you know me well..well enough to know what I think about this war. It’s old history making young people die and do we even remember why anymore?”..he started and a hiss of whispers went through the room.
“I remember well enough!” I answer him with a cold but calm voice.
“I know you do my king..but don’t you get tired of it? Don’t you wish we could coexist at some point?” The whispers turned to loud voices, offended by the careless youth. Peace with the werewolves? Coexist? Outrageous! After all the filthy mutts have done!
“Silence!” I raised my voice.
“I know you Tony, and I never interfered with your way of living but this is something completely different, where did this come from?”
Tony let out a sigh before answering
“ Father..when you are here, strong and well our kind mirrors that, we flourish and grow strong..but after the wars, when you are hurt and gone for ages we mirrors that to, we turn sick and weak, some even go insane by their longing for their Father” I let his words sink in, but I don’t answer them, I know he is right, I see it every time I come back.
“My sources tells me that a new ascendant to Aayla has moved in with the Great Falls pack and the Alpha of the pack is her true mate.” Tony says and I can see the concern in his eyes, and in the eyes of every general in the room.
They know their history well..
So, the true Luna is about to wake up again, the very soul of my old enemy Aayla.
I can’t help smiling and everyone around the table looks very confused, everyone except for Tony who shakes his head but I can see the smile tugging at the sides of his lips. He knows I love the rush of going to war.
“Everyone can leave, I need to think about this. We meet again tomorrow. Tony, please stay awhile.” I say before I stand up and walk to the high windows of the room.
The glass is special made. The sun won’t get through but I can look out on the sunny day outside. I really gave my father the finger with that one I think to myself.
The room clears out and Tony comes up behind me.
“Who is your source?”
“A shewolf from a neighbor pack to the Great Falls pack”
“And how does she know this and why would she tell you if it puts her own kind in danger?”
“She wants the Alpha, so she wants the girl gone, she sought me out and I can tell you how far she was willing to go to get my attention” He winked and chuckled
“I never understood what you saw in the she-wolves” I shake my head at the thought of mixing our races.
“Imagine a warm body, strong enough to take all you can give and more without breaking, and the blood..mmm the sweet taste of strength and speed in their blood”..
“I know the taste and it makes me sick every time..”
“Well sure, I would never drink from Aaylas bloodline, that shit would kill me..but any other wolfgirl offering me a sip, I gladly take to bed” Tony laughs
“So, Luna is waking up..It’s all starting again”..I say more to myself than to Tony.
“It doesn’t have to..get the other generals to back down and stop attacking the wolves, what’s the point of that anyway?”
“It’s always been the same point, keep their numbers down while I recover”
“And now? Whats the point now? Aayla is dead and has been for ages, she was the child you wanted to kill right? Sure, her bloodline still lives but you can’t kill them all, they can be anywhere in the world. They are all humans except for the firstborn girl who gets Luna, will you settle for her? Kill her and Luna and then it’s over? Or could you just walk away, leave them be..let them live in peace?” I could hear the frustration in Tonys voice and honestly I had no answer to give him.
Yes, For a very long time I wanted Aayla dead. I wanted to erase the bloodline and memory of Mateivia and Mateus until one day I didn’t. The day on the field when Zandra shot me. That day this war became something else. I had to go to war against Luna so I could meet Zandra, I had to get hurt by Aaylas blood so Zandra could rest..that was her spell when she tied herself to me, she would rest when I rested. If I kill Luna, what will happen? I know Zandra has tied herself to her as well. Over the years i have tortured a lot of wolves to get the story right.
“Peace with Luna”..I whisper the words and taste them..was that even a possibility? After all I put her and her kind through? After all I put Zandra through?
“Yes, peace with Luna!” I heard Tony, who obviously heard my whisper.
“Wouldn’t that be something” I gave him a weak smile “But this is so much bigger, Luna won’t back down until I am dead..I’m sorry son, it’s a beautiful dream though”..I patted his back and left the room, the sun was setting and I was itching to get outside, maybe she would be there tonight?
For three nights I have returned to Maribelles Pub, wanting to meet the girl, the great granddaughter of Zandra. But she hasn’t been there. I could ask the grumpy bartender but I rather not. I've been sitting in the same booth every night, drinking the same tasteless red wine.
As I walk up to the doors I turn around and look up at the sky.
“I’m confused, but I’m trying okay? Is that not what you wanted Father? For me to have doubts? For me to seek other ways to happiness?”
“Hrm…” For the first time since…forever I feel an actually blush on my face. Of course she would show up at the same time I’m talking to the sky. I turned around and there she was.
“The red wine girl who believes in witches!” I say with a smile.
“The disappearing customer who speaks to the sky!” She answers with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Yeah, I’m sorry about the disappearing part, I got an urgent call about a sick relative” I lied and I saw her face fall and the cocky attitude was replaced with sympathy.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, is he or she okay?”
“He died a couple of days ago.” Well, that was not a lie.
She covered her mouth with one of her hands and opened the door for me with the other and I walked pass her straight for our booth.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She asked as she sit down in front of me, pouring us wine, leaving the bottle on the table.
“Not really..he was old and sick..it’s not a pleasant story..I rather hear more about the stories you grew up with” I answer her with a small smile, taking a long sip of the wine.
“Stories about witches and supernatural beings lurking in the night you mean?” she giggled.
“Sure, if that’s what they are about.” Her voice makes me feel calm and I gladly sit here for hours listening to it, playing my part as an ignorant human instead of the origin to the story.
