Chapter 976 Motive
Gurmisran knew what Ornard meant and said, "David is the bodyguard of Callum. He knew that he was being tailed yesterday but was then gotten rid of. It would be logical for William to blame it on Callum and their relationship would be strained. The both of them would soon declare war with each other. We can then sit back and enjoy the show."
Ornard chuckled and said complacently, "There's still one final move left. You can swiftly get rid of Callum as long as they start fighting among themselves. William will be blamed upon the death of Callum. It would be a shocking piece of news for both Fandrey and Deborah. She will not be able to hold on any longer upon the death of her only son. We'll then have the opportunity to take over the Floyd family."
Gurmisran was feeling hopeful and said, "I'm looking forward to that day. It will then indicate that our efforts did not go to vain."
"Yes, I will also fulfill my promise to you. Their company at Misurton would eventually belong to the Knight family. You must be very glad for being able to strive through hardships all this while!"
"You're absolutely right. Mr. Knight, I admire you so much for having great foresight!" Gurmisran deliberately made Ornard feel flattered.
"You can continue your plan to lay low since the trouble has been resolved. We shall only take action when William and Callum start to be on bad terms."
"Alright, Mr. Knight. I shall update you first-hand as soon as I receive any news."
Callum was not aware that David had been out for the entire night. He was curious when he did not see David during breakfast the next morning. He asked his assistant, "Where is David?"
His assistant also did not know that David had not returned at all. The assistant swiftly went to check on David's bedroom upon Callum's inquiry. He was surprised to see the bedroom being empty and replied, "I don't know where did he go."
"Do give him a call to ask his whereabouts," Callum instructed with a frown on his face.
The assistant immediately dialed David's number but it could not be connected. He eventually realized that something was wrong after failing to get through David and said, "Mr. Floyd, I tried to call him several times but to no avail."
"What? Could something bad had happened to him?" Callum asked worriedly, "Did you get ahold of him last night?"
"Yes, I did. David wanted to have supper as he was starving. He also invited me to join him but I have refused his request and he eventually left by himself. Did he not return after going out?"
"Are you saying that he has spent the entire night out? Hmm..." Callum had a sullen expression on his face. He had a bad feeling upon receiving news from Rammos that someone had been tailing David.
Callum felt that something fishy was going on and his assistant also shared the same thought with him. The assistant looked at Callum and cautiously spoke, "Mr. Floyd, I do feel that this is somewhat bizarre as it is unusual for David to head out for the entire night. Could he really be caught in a mess? What should we do now?"
"Do continue to spam his phone. You should alert the police if you still can't get through him!"
The assistant dialed David's phone number continuously but to no avail. He had no choice and eventually resorted to giving the police a heads up.
The authority swiftly came over to investigate matters by watching the footage of the hotel's surveillance camera. It was evident that David did not return ever since he had last left the hotel.
David's phone was unreachable and was missing after he last set foot out from the hotel. The police decided to investigate matters thoroughly. They utilized the footage and eventually got ahold of the taxi driver who took David to the barbeque stall.
Their next lead was at the barbeque food stall. The owner had a vague impression of David and said, "I do remember this man and he is very well-built. I reckon that he is a foreigner as he does not speak fluently. He ordered quite a number of barbeque skewers and specifically said that he wanted the non-spicy ones. He finished a few of them and asked me to pack up the remaining to go. He then got into a black car."
The police got ahold of the surveillance cameras near the barbeque stall, especially the ones near the crossway. However, all of them seem to be coincidentally out of service.
There was no footage to confirm that David had hopped onto the said vehicle. It was no easy task to spot him from countless black cars. Hence, the police warranted a missing-person announcement in hopes to receive new updates from the public.
The news of his disappearance spread as quickly as lightning. Callum called to notify both Fandrey and Deborah about it and they too felt that it was a serious matter. Callum was a foreigner and was not as influential as William. Fandrey immediately thought of his grandson upon hearing about David gone missing.
He immediately gave William a call, "William, your uncle's bodyguard has disappeared all of a sudden and his current whereabouts are unknown. Can you help me look for him?"
William did not have a full picture in mind as he had just received this news not long ago. David did not use his vehicle but managed to secretly leave the hotel via the parking lot during midnight. William's men had lost their target as they did not expect this move from David. William immediately asked Fandrey upon receiving his call, "When did he go missing? Grandpa, can you tell me the incident in much more detail?"
Fandrey then told William everything that he heard from Callum and he did not know much either. All he knew was that David left to have supper at a barbeque stall during midnight. David was last seen hopping onto a vehicle after enjoying his meal.
William pondered for a moment after hearing Fandrey's words. "Alright, I shall look into this matter. I'll let you know if there's anything new."
William hung up and glanced at both Marcus and Bobby. "What do you guys think about this incident?"
Marcus spoke first, "I do think it is rather weird. David would not have any enemies here as he is just a bodyguard. It's so strange to go missing in the middle of the night. I reckon that it is highly likely for him to be met with trouble!"
William nodded in agreement, "That's what I have in mind as well. I'm just worried that he is already dead by now. However, who could the culprit be?"
Bobby said in a muffled voice, "The car that picked him up from the barbeque stall could not be found. Besides, the surveillance cameras by the crossways were out of service. It looks like this incident has been planned well ahead of time. David has been working with your uncle for so many years and he must be rather skillful in martial arts. Hence, there could only be one possibility to explain this matter. He let his guard down as the culprit is someone that he is close with."
"Who do you have in mind then?" William asked.
"It was just yesterday that he realized we have been tailing him and he then went missing today. It is obvious that the mysterious man had targeted David. He could only let loose with the people that he has contact with if we relate to his recent activities. Hence, it could either be Callum's or Gurmisran's men."
Bobby paused for a moment before he continued speaking, "Gurmisran was not aware that we were following David. However, Rammos must have told your uncle about this matter yesterday as soon as he knew about it. If Callum has something to hide, David's death might be intertwined with..."
William waved his hand as a gesture to interrupt Bobby's explanation. Marcus was taken aback and asked, "How could that be possible? What motive does Callum have in mind? Isn't David one of his men?"
"You're absolutely right. However, how much do we know about Callum? Are we aware of his true personality? It would be a different story if he continues to put on a good show. After all, it's normal for him to get rid of David in preventing the secrets to be exposed, right?"
"I still don't believe that my uncle would be so vicious." William frowned before he continued speaking, "I have an idea in mind. Callum is not the only one who knew that David was being followed. Gurmisran has also been communicating with David in secret all this while. Hence, it would then account for two persons who knew that David was being tailed! Gurmisran might be the culprit, don't you guys think so?"
