Chapter 18

Andre's POV
I was sitting at my computer working on the documents and contracts that my secretary had sent me to review when a sudden knock on the door interrupted my progress.
  "Come in."
Lucy, my assistant, pushed the door open and walked in. She was holding her office laptop with a serious expression.
"Mr. Vincent. The reporter has posted the photo of you and Miss Jones on the internet. Now the internet is full of your news, do we need our PR department to take action?"
I picked up the computer and found that the first few items on the news site were all information related to me. The one related to Emily was placed at the top.
I clicked in and the photo was taken yesterday when Emily and I were shopping. The reporter who wrote the story directly pointed out that Emily was my new girlfriend.
I frowned, the news was only told to our mutual best friends Kevin and Susan, but they would never reveal the story to the reporter. Now everyone was blaming Emily.
Who on earth knew that Emily was an illegitimate daughter carefully and posted it on the internet?
"Lucy, immediately arrange for the staff to delete all this news on the internet. I don't want to see any negative news and comments about Emily on the internet!"
People on the internet were all attacking Emily with unpleasant language, which made me very angry. I immediately gave an order for the company's employees to solve this matter.
Lucy got the instruction and nodded her head and retreated.
I walked to the window and the breeze calmed my emotions down.
When did this news get posted on the internet? And Emily, did she see the news?
She should be in class right now, what would her classmates think of Emily if someone at school saw the news, and would the news have a bad effect on her life?
I was so worried about Emily's situation that I drove to Emily's school. After arriving at the school, I called Emily and the phone was picked up quickly.
  "Andre, what's up?"
Emily's voice sounded a little hoarse like she had been crying. I guessed she had seen the news.
"Are you in class? I'm outside your school, come out if you can."
This matter must be resolved as soon as possible. I thought Emily would have some clues about the person who posted the information. Deleting the news would not quell the anger in my heart, I had to find the person who wanted to hurt Emily and make him pay!
Emily arrived quickly, and there were no tears in the corners of her eyes when she got in the car, but her eyes had become red and swollen.
I reached out to touch Emily's face and it was a little cold. Her face still had some sticky tissue scraps on it, which should have been stuck on when she was wiping her face.
"Emily, don't be sad. You don't have to care about those comments on the internet, they are all posted on purpose to get attention."
I reassured her, rubbing her head and trying to take her into my arms, but she avoided me.
"No, Andre, you don't understand. They're right, I don't think we're right for each other. I don't want you to be attacked with words because of me. I'm just an illegitimate girl who has no business being your girlfriend."
My eyes widened in shock. I hadn't expected her to despise herself so much.
I went to kiss Emily in anger, not taking care of her thoughts for the first time. Then I let go of Emily and forced her to look me straight in the eye.
"Emily, listen. I don't care about your illegitimate daughter's status and what those people say. I love you because you are a beautiful, kind, brave, unique girl. I love your soul, I love you for who you are, do you understand that?"
I looked at her sincerely and told her everything that was really on my mind. I didn't want her to give up on me and our relationship so easily because of these things.
Emily threw herself into my arms and cried. I hugged her tightly and comforted her, telling her not to worry that I would solve this matter.
I wouldn't let anyone hurt her.
She calmed down and told me she wanted to go back to class, but I stopped her.
It was not appropriate for her to be in public until this matter was resolved. I was worried that some crazy person might attack her.
"Emily, I'll help you take a day off to rest. Believe me, you are not in the right state to go to class yet."
She thought about it for a while and finally agreed with me. I was just about to start the car to take her home when her phone rang.
  "Mom?"
After a while, she hung up with a slightly nervous and panicked expression, "Andre, what should I do? Hellen must have seen the news, she... She's asking me to go to the hospital now. How do I explain to her?"
"Don't worry, I'll go with you. Let's go explain to Hellen, I think she'll understand."
I held Emily's hand to calm her down.
News travels fast, and I wasn't surprised that Hellen would know about it as soon as she looked at her phone or the TV. I was just worried that it would affect the impression I had made on Hellen's mind. If she guessed that Emily and I were just cheating on her last time, the whole thing would become bad.
  "Mom..."
Emily and I came to the hospital room where the news about Emily and I was playing on the room's TV. I don't know how long Hellen had been watching it, but in any case, her face looked very bad.
"Emily, I want you to be honest and tell me who he is and if the news is true?"
Hellen questioned Emily with a serious expression as she sat on the bed.
Emily looked nervous and scared, but nodded honestly, "Yes, that's all true. He is indeed the son of that Mr. Wilson Vincent."
Hellen turned to me and she didn't look angry just very serious.
I was worried that she would make Emily leave me and was in a bit of a nervous mood.
"Mr. Vincent, I want you to be honest with me. Do you treat Emily as just a fun plaything or are you genuinely in love with her and want to marry her?"
"Please be assured, Ms. Jones. My feelings for Emily are very serious and loyal. I want to take care of her for the rest of my life. I give you my word that I will protect her from anyone."
I looked Hellen straight in the eye and assured her very seriously and solemnly. Hellen looked relieved and a smile began to form on her face.
"Mr. Vincent, please don't blame me. It's not that I don't support your relationship, I'm just afraid that Emily will be cheated by a man for her feelings and regret her life like I did when I was young. I just hope she can find someone who will truly treat her right. It doesn't matter if he's rich or poor, I just hope he can truly love her."
Hellen looked at me gently and apologized. I understood how she felt as a mother concerned about her child. I was happy that Emily had a mother who loved and cared for her like that, so I didn't mind.
  "Emily, come here."
Hellen called Emily to her side. She held Emily's hand and seemed to see Emily's unhappiness, so she patted Emily's hand.
"Emily, don't feel scared, you guys are not to blame for this. You guys didn't do anything wrong. Promise me. As long as you truly love each other go on with your lives bravely and don't care about what others say."
  Hellen's encouragement was very helpful.
I stood next to them and watched Emily's face move as she hugged Hellen and they embraced each other and shed tears.
I was so happy that what Hellen said was what I wanted to tell Emily. As long as we both truly love each other, no one can separate us.
