Chapter 32

Andre's POV
I didn't tell Emily that the funeral was early and that I would be home tomorrow morning, I wanted to surprise her, but she sounded upset on the phone. I was worried that Fiona had done something bad again, so I packed my bags and planned to leave tonight.
"Andre, I need to talk to you. You can't go yet."
Jane came into my room at that moment. She stopped me from packing my clothes and told me I had things I needed to do tomorrow.
"The funeral is over, and the guests have all left. Is there anything else important, Mom?"
"Your grandfather introduced you to a girl from an elite family while he was still alive. She's a little younger than you and I'd like you to meet her tomorrow."
I didn't think Jane would come to me for something like this. She asked me to go on a blind date!
"I won't go. Mom. You know that I already have Emily as my girlfriend. Why do you have to agree to grandfather's request?"
I didn't understand that even if Jane didn't like Emily, she wasn't the one who allowed me to date another woman while having a girlfriend.
"Andre. You can't blame your grandfather for this matter. At the time he met this girl, you and Emily were not yet a couple. This is your grandfather's last wish in this world, I hope you can go see that girl tomorrow. That girl is the granddaughter of your grandfather's best friend. I know you love Emily, so think of it as just going to lunch with your best friend."
Jane looked at me with pleading eyes. I thought of my deceased grandfather and sighed as I agreed to Jane's request.
"I'm Andre Vincent. May I ask if you are Miss Rosen?"
Jane had given me the address of the restaurant where we were meeting yesterday.
She said that the girl would go to the appointment and hoped that I could not leave her waiting alone at the restaurant. It would ruin the friendship between the girl's family and my family.
I didn't want to upset Jane and I didn't want them to think that the Vincents were impolite liars who didn't keep their promises. So I came to the restaurant anyway.
Rosen was sitting by the window. I had a picture on my phone that my mother had sent me, and she was beautiful and elegant.
I didn't cancel my afternoon flight, and Kate came to the restaurant with me.
"Hello, Mr. Vincent. Is this girl your daughter?"
"Yes, she is very shy. I hope Miss Rosen doesn't mind."
Miss Rosen greeted me politely. kate hid behind me and peeked at her, not greeting her.
She wasn't usually a child without manners, but today she looked a little uncomfortable with the date.
"That's okay, Mr. Vincent, please sit down."
"I'm sorry for the delay, Miss Rosen. I must tell you the truth, I have a lover. My grandfather did not know about it which caused the misunderstanding today, so please don't blame him and your family."
I sat down in my seat and said these words without any hesitation.
I had planned everything just before I arrived. If the Rosen family felt cheated, I would take the responsibility to do my best to compensate them materially.
"I appreciate your honesty, Mr. Vincent. I already have a lover that I want to spend my life with, and I came to the restaurant today only because my parents forced me to. Thank you again for your honesty. I think we should be able to have a relaxing lunchtime."
  Emily's POV
"This is so weird. We still have a lot of work assignments left to do, so how can another one come along?"
Lilly flipped through the file Fiona had just given me and was a little puzzled. I felt the same incomprehension.
If this assignment was so important why did Fiona just put it in her handbag so casually?
"Lilly, you have more experience than I do. Do you know how to do a risk assessment and profit evaluation of a large shopping mall?"
I had seen some classic cases when I was in school, but when it came to practical application, I still needed to ask Lilly for advice.
"The risk assessment of a shopping mall is very simple, but at the same time, it is also very troublesome. First of all, you need to go to the address of this mall in person to determine whether it is in a well-policed and commercially prosperous area and whether there are competitors of the same type around it that are already in operation and doing very well."
Lilly handed me back the paperwork and gave me a serious analysis of what a mall should look like that could bring in a lot of money.
"What if the mall isn't built in a busy area?"
I looked at the address marked on the document where the mall was built. It wasn't next to any of the big malls I was familiar with, let alone in any well-managed and busy location.
Was this the assignment Andre had picked out?
"That would be even more problematic. If the location of the mall is in the suburbs, then you have to investigate how many households there are within a few miles of it. Are there apartment buildings or office buildings that have rear occupants? The risk assessment of the mall should be done as a group, and even Ms. Cady can't do this task alone."
Fiona wasn't that kind to give me an important job assignment. She was thinking that if I didn't finish the job she could successfully throw me out of the company!
"Wait! Jesus, Emily! Did you just ask that because you're going to complete this evaluation alone?"
Lilly suddenly understood and she looked at me in surprise.
I nodded without denying her words, and then Lilly looked at me with sympathy in her eyes.
"Emily, I think you should apply for a new department. Fiona is the head of the project department and you can't beat her, but she will always have a way to torment you."
"I think you're right. But I still have to get this assignment done before I can leave. I think I might need your help."
I wanted to leave the program too. Although I could put all the knowledge I'd learned to good use here, Fiona was too difficult to deal with.
She was the head of the project department and an employee Andre trusted, and I couldn't beat her until she made a huge mistake.
If Fiona knew I was Andre's girlfriend, she probably wouldn't have given me such a hard time. But I didn't want to reveal my privacy to everyone, so I had to put up with her badgering.
When I got home from work in the evening, I called Susan and asked her if she knew any friends who knew where the mall was located.
Susan was very puzzled by the address because she had never heard of the mall being built here. But she promised to help me with the inquiry. I also turned on my computer and searched for a map of the mall on the Internet.
The map showed that the mall was surrounded by many residential areas, hotels, and schools, and it looked pretty good.
A place like this shouldn't be without a mall, and any entrepreneur with a nimble mind would be the first to take over a shopping center in this area.
I opened the file again and found the phone number of the person in charge of the mall on the last page.
I immediately dialed the number of the person in charge. The phone was quickly answered, but it was a woman's voice.
I was a little confused because Fiona had introduced me to the person in charge as a gentleman.
"Hello? Is the person in charge of Jace Mall here? This is Emily Jones from VA Financial Investments."
The woman on the other end of the phone, knowing the reason for my call, told me that she was the assistant to the person in charge and if I had anything to do I could just tell her.
