Chapter 22
Andre's POV
Emily was already asleep. I quietly got up, grabbed the phone that was on my bed, and went out of the room to call my assistant Lucy.
My company needed a new employee with Emily's excellent academic background and ability. And I don't want her to go to another company. She was too pretty, and I was afraid that someone would think badly of her.
"Sorry to bother you so late, Lucy. I have some work I need you to do right now."
"Mr. Vincent, please give me your order."
Lucy's voice still sounded awake and should still be working late at the office. My company has been busy with a new project lately, and there are many meeting minutes for her to organize every day.
"Notify all the companies in this state that are still operating normally. I don't want any company to hire Emily, or we will refuse to work with that company forever. Then you send an Offer to Emily's email address. I'll send you the email address later."
"Okay, Mr. Vincent, I'll get on it now."
I hung up the phone and sent Emily's email address to Lucy, then walked to the room and picked up Emily's computer, and went into the bathroom.
Lucy moved very quickly and it didn't take long for me to see the email she sent to Emily's email address.
I nodded in satisfaction, shut the computer down and put it back in its original position, and lay back down on the bed to hug Emily and go back to sleep.
"Andy! Oh my god! You'll never guess what I got! An offer from a VA company!"
In the morning, Emily opened her computer and hugged me with excitement when she saw the offer I had Lucy send last night.
I reached out and hugged her back, not mincing my words, "Baby. You're so great! It's all because you're good enough!"
I was happy, but I wasn't going to tell Emily the truth, she would find out when she reported tomorrow.
"But Andy, I always feel like I haven't submitted my resume to this company. Maybe I need to double-check."
Emily calmed down and let go of me with a very puzzled expression, turning her head to look at the computer sitting on the bed.
"Well, if you didn't submit your resume to the company, how would they have your email address? Don't think about it so much, we should get up. kate is still waiting for us for breakfast."
I shut down the computer before Emily could reconfirm the company. And then used Kate as an excuse to distract Emily's attention.
"To celebrate you getting a job! Baby, I've decided to cook a meal for you tonight."
In the afternoon, after I finished all my work at home, I looked at Emily and Kate who were happily sharing cookies and cakes, and announced this decision.
Emily looked at me with anticipation and surprise, and I felt very satisfied and smug.
"Emi. Don't trust Daddy. He's a very bad cook. Dad doesn't have any talent to be a chef."
Kate tugged on Emily's coat and exposed the truth that I couldn't cook at all in what she thought was a very low voice in Emily's ear.
"Sweetie! How do you know I haven't improved lately?" I pinched Kate's little face and smiled.
"What's this, Andy? Are you sure this is edible and won't give me and Kate food poisoning?"
On the table were two black plates of food that could no longer be seen to be made from any of the ingredients.
Emily and Kate looked at the two plates and looked at each other, Emily even questioned the safety of my food.
I was so unconvinced that I picked up the utensils and tried to take a bite to prove that the food just looked ugly. But I couldn't eat the two burnt plates and finally had to admit that my food was a failure.
"I'd better make some more. Otherwise, we're going to go hungry today."
Emily sighs untie the apron I'm wearing and puts it on herself to go into the kitchen.
Emily's POV
"Emi! Good luck!"
"Have a great time at your new company, baby."
The next morning, I got up early to wash and put on my makeup.
When I was about to leave the house, Andre and Kate both hugged me and cheered me on.
"Hi, I'm Emily Jones, the new employee who reported today."
"Hello, Ms. Jones, please come this way with me."
VA is a very famous financial investment company with businesses in film, real estate, and hospitals.
I went to the front desk and showed my information to the staff at the front desk. One of the staff members took a look at my information, then got up and instructed her companion a few words and led me to the HR department.
"Hello, Miss Jones. Since your college major is financial management, we have assigned you to the project department. Please come with me."
The HR director at VA was a particularly enthusiastic woman, and even though I had repeatedly said that I could find the project department on my own, she still wanted to take me there.
"Fiona, please come here. There's a new employee onboarding here."
The project department looked very busy and everyone was hard at work. The entire work area was filled with the sound of employees tapping on keyboards and communicating with clients on the phone. There were also some people gathering with files to discuss the best project proposals.
After the HR director called out a name, a woman in professional attire looked up from her computer and came this way.
"Miss Jones. This woman is your future boss. The head of the project department, Fiona."
"Fiona, this is the new intern today, majoring in finance. You guys get to know each other so that you can communicate with each other if you have any problems at work in the future. I have work to do, so I'll leave now."
After introducing Fiona's position to me, the HR director told me that I should listen to Fiona's command in all future work matters.
"Hi, Fiona, I'm Emily Jones, and you can call me Emily."
I shook Fiona's hand in a friendly manner before she looked me up and down with her shrewd eyes.
"Hi. My name is Fiona Cady, and you can call me Ms. Cady from now on. That's what the staff here call me."
Ms. Cady is a very beautiful-looking woman with a very serious personality. The first mistake she pointed out as my supervisor was the way I addressed her.
She led me to the workstation that had been prepared and instructed an employee to teach me the rules and procedures of the company.
I sat in my place and felt that many people were looking at me.
The employee sitting next to me, named Lilly, had been here six months before me. She handed me a copy of the VA company employee handbook. While continuing to revise her proposal, she chatted with me.
"You look so pretty. Can I know your name?"
"Sure. My name is Emily Jones, and you can call me Emily."
Lilly is a very cheerful, enthusiastic girl. When I was confused about some rules, she was very patient in answering them for me.
"Emily. Why do I feel like I've heard your name somewhere?"
Lilly finished her work and then read my name again, whispering it to herself.
I was taken aback by Lilly's words. Although some time had passed since that incident, it still didn't erase the fact that Andre and I had been in the news together.
I was afraid of being recognized by Lilly. How would I work in this new company if she told other colleagues who I was?
But luckily, Lilly didn't remember who I was in the end. Relieved, I picked up the project file on my desk that Ms. Cady had ordered delivered to familiarize myself with the scope of my work.
Wait, is that... Andre?
I saw a familiar figure walking in my direction. It's Andre, who said goodbye to me this morning and went to work!
Why is he here?
