Finding out!

Asher's POV
It seemed this was a never-ending situation both at the packhouse and at the office.
Humans could be dubious if they wanted to be and this was one of those times when they had to do the madness of causing fraudulent activity.
I was called out of the house in such haste that I finally had to mind link my mate but whilst in the car driving down south.
The business I had handed over to Wade some months back was going perfectly well until some crazed person in the company decided betrayal was the best druther.
Betray I both at home and work, shit this was a tangle.
I didn't know how and who to point my fingers at.
Unlike my mate, I barely had such hits of knowing who was the villain and who wasn't and that was the worst feeling I could ever have, honestly.
Having to make her worry about things I could handle was the shortest thing I could ever understand.
She was going through a lot, had been going through a lot and I had to make sure she was feeling great before pounding her with more bad news.
When would we all be happy with our lives and live them with our people in peace?
My people have been sent to a secret space because of the fear of the unknown, my Pup Niel can't even live the life of a normal Pup and not talk of her parents who have become parents to Niel.
Julia's mother and Pup are going through a similar pattern what shit could this be? And now an involvement with the human police?
Darn!!!

I was in a great panic after listening to the rude Police officer, I could not just tell him I wanted him to back off because they could retain me and being an Alpha and one who wants all the respect his people could give I would fight back and sometimes Ash could be a big bastard.
"Hey, don't call me that, I am your best friend and not even Mathias is a best friend to you stupid eggnog," Ash said as he could hear my thoughts.
I just didn’t know the next step to take. I nervously called all my business contacts I was currently doing business with, thinking it was a fraud-related issue but none of them was having issues with the Police which left me confused.

‘’I hope Hennessey isn’t trying to play a fast one on you because none of our friends has been harassed by the Police recently. You have to check your end very well’’ Matthias had advised when I contacted him and he showed up

I couldn’t help but buy his idea. I had no choice but to suspect Hennessey even though I knew she had no reason to put the Police on my way. She had apologised and was out doing her masters or whatever in London. I tried relaxing that evening but couldn’t.

By 10 pm I found myself driving back to her house with a terrified Mate.

Lidien was extremely surprised to see me by that hour. She couldn’t hide her surprise as she let me into the sitting room, with a mockery smile on her face.

‘’So what pursued you from your work by this hour? Don’t tell me you are here to apologize’’ she asked coldly but I knew she was just simply having some mood swings.

We had had a misunderstanding the night before because she wanted to handle the pack issues herself but I refused.

‘’Is it because of our simple misunderstanding that you sent your pouting face my way? " I asked.
This time around, my question left her jaw-dropping. There wasn’t any doubt she was very much surprised.

"There is a problem, someone wants to make us receive some bad things at the company," I said and she looked me dead in the eyes and then we took the phone and had to start calling the person whom we suspected.

‘’what do you mean? I don’t understand’’ Hennessey stammered.

‘’I was called to the office this morning to hear that the Police visited me. They dropped a phone number which I called and a very rude officer asked me to show up at the station early tomorrow’’ I explained quickly.

‘’And you think I’m behind it?’’ she asked with disbelief.

‘’You are good at playing stunts’’ I fired back and Lidien stood behind me looking me dead in the eyes.

‘’ I can never send the Police to disturb you. What will I gain out of it?’’ she asked with a raised tone while I looked down at Lidien, just looking at her for a reaction and saying nothing.

‘’Haven’t you reasoned towards the direction that maybe Estaban might have done something and the body has been found?’’ she suddenly asked, lightening up my face with the question. It never for a moment crossed my troubled mind whose dead body was she talking about.

"What do you mean a dead body who killed and why was the person killed and also why was it related to me?" I asked her frantically.

"Ehm, I have got to go, please just let it be I have a professor coming in," She said taking off the call.

After she dropped the call, I went on to talk with Lidien.
"What could she be talking about she just might have done something bad, "Lidien said.

‘’Yes, you could be right. This could be another stressful moment hun we are finished’’ I breathed with great fear. She drew close, hugged me and rested her head on my chest.

‘’Don’t be scared, my love. We are in this together. Tomorrow, I will ask one of my lawyers to accompany you to the police station. He is one of the best criminal lawyers in the state. You have nothing to fear’’ she muttered sweetly, settling my fears with her offer.

Dealing with humans is not the best, I wish the world would just be called wolves and no evil.

‘’Let’s go to the room and sleep. I’m so tired’’ she breathed, dragging me to her bedroom.
She said making me smile because she had just forgotten her anger from last night and I couldn't wait to snuggle towards her.

I never slept that night, I simply laid awake thinking of my life and our future. What if there’s more to what Hennessey was doing that I didn't know? I knew I would never have to be in such a situation when we worked together.
How will my people feel when such news gets to them?’’ I wondered miserably. I had to stick around to make sure our pack stays perfectly fit and together.

Early the next morning, I headed to my office to prepare for the trip ahead. By 7:45 am I was back at the pack house where a middle-aged man was patiently waiting for me.

‘’My love, meet barrister Maxwell. He is one of the best in town’’ Lidien introduced him as we shook hands.

‘’We all will go with you to the police station. Simply do all he says’’ she added while I nodded like a little child.
This issue could not be handled as we handle situations which concerned the other things of the pack and werewolf issues.

We serve down at the police station and she stood out, she was tensed I could feel it.

" Let us go in and do the work," I said.

‘’I will be here waiting for you guys. I’m nervous’’ she breathed.

Minutes later, the lawyer and I arrived at the State Police headquarters.

I called the annoying officer again and was directed to an office where an ugly-looking Policeman with three stars on his shoulder was waiting for me.

‘’Good morning sir, I am Asher Hamilton. I’m the person that just called on the phone’’ I introduced myself nervously. He nodded and threw a quick look at my lawyer.

‘’So who is he?’’ he asked.

‘’My lawyer’’ I replied, leaving the officer surprised.

‘’Did I ask you to bring any lawyer’’ he asked quickly.

‘’You invited my client to your office for questioning and yes I have every right to be with him so that you don’t trample on his rights. If you have any questions for him, simply direct them to me. We have the right to answer or kept mute.’’ My lawyer quickly cut in while I nodded at his clever response. Humans were not bad after all.

The officer couldn’t say a word for some seconds. I bet he never expected to have any confrontation with a lawyer.

"Being a criminal is one thing, and knowing how to defend and play with the law is a necessary bonus?" Barrister Maxwell said as he looked at me leaving the annoying police officer's mouth ajar.

For the first time, I realized the importance of lawyers. I realized why the human's corrupt politicians and species like Hennessey and Estaban probably never got caught.

We just keep having problems but I wished and hope that everything was well.
