CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT.
(Meliora's POV)
Life, like they say, has a way of dealing with everyone. To some people life might seem fair and to some others, it obviously might look like life has a sword that kills people who he finds no interest in.
I could see a ball of tears formed in Martha's eyes, as she looked back at the young lady who had just spoken to me.
Something just seemed off, and the truth was that I wasn't finding any of this funny, Brian was okay before he left, if I was correct, we had made sure that he was fine, literally he fought the poison, and he was back to his feet, There was no reason I should believe this words from the young lady.
Or better still was she here to disrupt me seeing the Lycan king, I couldn't think straight anymore, I had started allowing my emotions take the better part of me.
Likewise, Martha, she wasn't believing this, but her eyes were saying something else, it seemed like she didn't believe it, but a part of her knew that the girl who stood in front of us was obviously staring the fact
“What do you mean ?” Martha asked as she exchanged glances with me. I couldn't say if Martha needed to hear the rest of the words or just leave at the moment.
Suddenly behind us, I could hear the voices of the people again. It seemed like the Lycan king who had stopped earlier was moving again, I could hear the steps of the horses and the people as they trailed off to meet with the Alpha.
Truthfully, I still had some seconds more to turn back and see him, but I just couldn't, at this point, I wasn't sure if seeing the Lycan king was important to saving the life of Brian.
I had initially thought I had passed through this days ago, I couldn't comprehend seeing Martha in pain with the fear of losing Brian, not now, and not even now that they were expecting a baby.
“You need to be strong Martha, I will be right back” I said as my heart began to race, if there was anything I needed to make sure that I save the life of Brian. I couldn't watch Brian due, leaving Martha all alone with the child.
If it had to cost me not to see the Lycan king, I was ready to pay the price. But it seemed like Martha wasn't understanding all that I had been saying.
She fell to the ground as she began to sob uncontrollably, I moved slowly to the ground as I tried to wipe away the tears in my eyes. Come to think of it, Martha was already in pain, I couldn't let her see me cry that would only break her the more. As I fell to the ground, I quickly held her hands as I tried to put her together.
“Promise me, you will save Brian, Please Liora promise that you would save him” she said as she begged while crying profusely.
“I promise to save him, I promise to do whatever it takes to keep him alive” I responded as I slowly withdrew my hands from hers. I could feel Martha's heart racing quickly as she stared back at me, I managed to fight back the tears trying to escape from my eyes.
“We need to hurry, Elder Morris would be expecting you now” the young lady said as she looked at Martha with pity.
“Let's go, I'm ready” I answered as I stood up slowly and followed the girl behind me.
As we both hurriedly left, I still turned at intervals to look at Martha who I had left behind, she had managed to stand up, a d then now I guess she was trying to head back, but I knew her, I knew she would definitely come looking for Brian, knowing fully well that he is unconscious.
There was no better way I was going to say it, it was clearly obvious that she loved Brian, but this wasn't going to be good for her and the baby at this point.
I pushed the door as I quickly dashed into the room to meet with Elder Morris, at least I needed a better explanation of what had happened again, it was clear that there was no external attack of any such, and it wasn't even possible for an internal attack. So the question continued to ring in my head like a bell.
“What really happened ?”
“Where have you been Liora ?You ought to have been here before now, What kept you so long?” Elder Morris' voice sprung up from one of the corners of the room.
I could see her with a bottle in one of her hands, I honestly could admit that I had never seen such a bottle with her before I managed to speak as I continued to stare at the bottle, and its mysterious content.
“I'm sorry Elder Morris, it won't happen again” I stammer, trying to read the inscription written on a tiny label on the bottle. Just as I tried to check it out, the more I tried to see, the less I was seeing. I couldn't read anything and this just made me more anxious and curious.
“The bed over there” Elder Morris instructed, pointing to the bed which seemed like it was segregated from the other bed.
I honestly couldn't have noticed that there was someone on the bed since it was a bit dark there, I told step after another as I walked closer to the bed where Brian was laying, I assumed.
Brian just laid still without moving as I stared at him. At this point I couldn't understand what was going on. I couldn't believe that the strong Brian who was strong enough to walk around was lying helplessly on the bed. As I walked closer to him my heart raced as tears rolled down my checks.
“Is he dead ?” I asked, my lips trembling as tears flowed from my eyes to my cheeks.
Elder Morris didn't utter a word, she stood behind, but I could see the pains in her eyes.
