CHAPTER SEVENTY-SIX.
(Meliora's POV)
I could still see the fury boiling in Martha's heart as she walked out of the room, but I still couldn't just let her go that way. I needed to make sure she didn't go to see Elder Morris in this state. This was only going to ruin everything and if Elder Morris noticed that she knew the truth now, she was going to kill her, just like the way she insulted me for framing me for a crime that I didn't commit.
“Wait Martha, You can't go out this way” I said with a low voice
However, I walked towards her and placed my hands on her shoulders trying to calm her down for the last time. I knew how painful it was realizing the truth after thinking that those who seemed or claimed to be a friend were actually the enemies in disguise.
Martha paused as she stared into my eyes, I could see a ball of tears forming in her eyes, she didn't say any word, but I could sense that the words seemed like they were choking her up.
A tear streamed down her cheeks as she closed her eyes, I guess it was at this point she knew that she wasn't just going to fight against men, but against higher men.
They were people in power, and they were in control of all of this, and unfortunately we do not have a hint, fighting these people would be dangerous, but it was worth fighting for.
“They lied to me, they manipulated me, and I obviously can't say if they had succeeded in making me kill Brian at this point” she replied as she continued to cry.
“You have to be strong Martha” I responded
“No, Liora, you don't know how I feel, not a bit, you don't know how I feel right now” she answered
“I know how it feels Martha, that's the same way I'm feeling right now, that feeling that makes you want to strangle them, that feeling that makes you feel like torturing them and making them pay dearly for their atrocities, Yes I know, but you can't take this fight this way, there should be a proper plan” I said.
Martha stared at me, before looking at her stomach, she touched her stomach with one of her hands as some more tears poured from her eyes.
“Brian would have loved to see the baby. He just couldn't wait to be a father. He wants a girl, strong like me,” she said, her voice above a whisper.
“I promise to keep you and the baby alive, I promise you, and we will make sure we find out where Brian is being kept” I promised.
I nodded my head as I hugged her tightly.
“But first, wipe your tears and act normal, just like you still don't know the truth, okay” I said as I was withdrawing myself from her.
“I will,” she said, nodding her head.
“Find your way to the Lycan king, and if he isn't there, you should meet with the Alpha, just like I said earlier, follow my words, He is going to help us” I said as I hinted her to leave at the moment.
Martha walked towards the door and left, leaving me alone in the room again, at least she was the only hope I had in escaping, else I would be charged for treason.
I bit one of my fingers as I walked towards the bed to sit, I only prayed that Martha was able to get to the Lycan king without getting caught, Martha was the only one I had trust in at this point, and I knew that if she failed I was probably going to be punished for treason.
I checked the time again in the room. She had left ten minutes ago. I couldn't even take a nap as I waited patiently to be rescued by the Lycan king or probably the Alpha.
At this point, I hated myself for lying to the Lycan king the other time, I should have not had a deal with Elder Morris.
However, I remained baffled on how the seal left my pocket, and on the other hand Elder Morris was supposed to have come here, if she intended to make me free, at least we had a deal, I fulfilled my end of the deal, it was her turn to do same.
Every single sound I heard close to the door made my heart race really quickly. I stood up at intervals, walked towards the door and returned back when I noticed that the Lycan king wasn't there.
It must have been hard for Martha to locate the Lycan king, would he even believe Martha at this point, I had told him I was safe earlier, it would only take someone who was worried to listen to Martha again.
The clock ticked by, and I still hadn't heard from Martha. I had started to worry, my mind reeled from worst case scenarios. What if Martha had gone to confront Elder Morris? What if she couldn't control her fury ? What if Elder Morris had succeeded in killing her as well?" I thought.
To this tunnel, I didn't feel like there was light at the end anymore. I had already waited for two hours and Martha wasn't back. I had expected her to come back to inform me that if she had not seen the Lycan king, we might have to make a Plan B.
No sign, no sound, it was already dark, and I doubted if any of the members of the pack would be out by this time, it was almost eleven, I couldn't even hear the sounds of people anymore.
A tear poured from my eyes, knowing fully well that there was no way I could get out anymore, Either Martha had ruined the plan by confronting Elder Morris angrily, or she had been caught while trying to get to meet the Lycan king for help.
I buried my head in my palms as I sobbed uncontrollably, my heart ached, and I knew that everything didn't work at all, I just couldn't imagine if I was going to be charged for treason just this way.
My legs trembled as I thought of this, but I had promised myself that I was going to get to the root of this, I would take my revenge on those who had destroyed me in the past and also those who are trying to destroy me now.
Just as I raised my head up from my palms, I heard a faint knock on the door. I moved back a bit, just to be conscious of who was going to come into the room. I took back the knife and hid it under my sleeves as I waited for the intruder.
The door swung open forcefully as Martha marched into the room panting heavily, she must have been worked out all these hours that she left.
“Where have you been Martha? " I asked as I walked towards her immediately I noticed she was the one who had entered.
I was still surprised how she got in, knowing fully well that the guards wouldn't allow her in at this late hour.
“I couldn't find the Lycan king anywhere, I searched everywhere” she replied.
“How did you get in?” I stammered.
“Don't say a word, Let's leave now, hurry” she said.
