CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE.
(Meliora POV)
Being lost in your own thoughts was something different entirely. It felt like the world stopped for a few minutes. I stood frozen as I stared at her eyes. To be sincere I heard her right, but I just couldn't believe that those words actually came from her.
It was really hard for me to say anything, and at this point, I had begun to ask myself if there was something that I had not been told or was secretly hidden from me.
I was sure that we needed to have received orders from the Alpha before proceeding with anything at all.
But this only lasted for a few minutes, the next minute was another loud voice which brought me back to reality, if only these were just thoughts and not reality I wish.
"It's an order Liora, you heard clearly, I do not need to say more than this or even the gravity of the situation and if your actions speak otherwise you would have yourself to blame" she ordered, her voice laced with rigidity.
“An order !!” I exclaimed as my jaw dropped and my mouth wide.
But what was all of this for, this is an expensive order that I know would be impossible for me to carry out. I really respected Elder Morris, but this was way beyond what I had expected from her. I just couldn't believe that she had turned to an inconsiderate human just over the night in a twinkle of the eye.
“This is the best you can do, I have seen your potential, and I know a brave one when I see one” she said.
The look on her face says it all, I guess she is trying every means possible to make sure I get hold of the bottle, because I couldn't understand why I had suddenly become the brave one now.
“We can't just make decisions, Elder Morris, at least we need to give Brian a chance. What if he survives?” I asked.
“Enough, enough Liora, Don't you still get it ?, Brian is far too gone, he is a threat to the pack, he needs to be eliminated right now, we can't risk that Liora, look at how far the pack has come” Elder Morris replied
However, she took a step closer as she held my hands while trying to lay the bottle on it.
“Then give Martha a chance, let's explain things to her, why are you keeping this from her” I said as I withdrew my hands.
I walked over to the window as I stared through looking at the trees around, Elder Morris followed behind as she stood few steps behind me
“We can't lie that we all do not know that Martha is weak and emotional, this would break her, and definitely, the news of the curse would get to everyone, They would panic, Don't you see that I am trying to protect the pack” she replied.
“In all, she is his wife, she needs to know what's happening, I don't know whatsoever you had called the name earlier” I replied as I turned to face her, while another tear escaped my eyes.
This was not what I could have normally done, the thought of me exchanging words or disobeying Elder Morris, I knew she might as well be surprised to see me talk back at her but in all I didn't want Martha to be sad all I wanted was for her to be happy just like Anna and the rest.
"Do you know what it takes to defy orders?" Elder Morris shouted as she stared at me.
She must have been fed up with the whole situation and for the fact that I wasn't yielding to her words, talk less of trying to even yield to her instructions.
“I'm not drying orders ma'am, but please let's give Martha a chance at least, let her see her husband if that's possible, Martha doesn't deserve all of this” I responded as I fell to the ground sobbing profusely.
"Everything I do, I do it for the sake of the pack Liora, Martha can't see her husband now, and to start with she is not going to see him ever, Because we are going to finish this now." She answered.
"I beg you ma, we can find another solution, let's just give it some time." I suggested
“Well, if you are not willing to do your friend the honor, I have a replacement for you, just like I predicted you aren't brave enough” she said
“Does my friend have the honor of killing her husband ?” I asked in surprise.
Was that really something to be proud of, all of this was just so confusing, why on earth was Brian needed to be killed immediately, I couldn't say if the Alpha was aware of all that was happening, probably he wouldn't have allowed such to happen.
Just as I raised my head from the ground, I saw a young lady walk into the room. The room wasn't bright enough, and I just couldn't see her face, but that look, the glare, those eyes seemed familiar.
I know I had seen them somewhere but couldn't pinpoint where exactly.
The young lady walked in majestically as she bowed her head immediately she got close to Elder Morris
“Just like I had said ma, she is too weak” the lady responded.
“Finish it up now,” Elder Morris said, handing over the bottle to her.
That was it all, I knelt there frozen as I stared at the young lady, to be honest she was brutal, she didn't even care the consequences of her actions at all, everything seemed to happen real quick as I watched
Her footsteps echoed through the room like a soldier who was ready for a battle, I could see the smile on the edge of Elder Morris lips, as she watched everything happen.
“You can't do that please” I stammered as I managed to speak up.
“Then you could have done that” The young lady objected as she moved a step closer to Brian.
She immediately grabbed a syringe and infused the content into it before turning to Brian. I buried my head because I couldn't watch this anymore.
But I couldn't say if I heard clearly, but I was sure that there was a loud scream from the lady.
I gasped as I lifted my head from the ground
“What!”
