CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO.

(Meliora's POV)

Everything I had heard today was just evident that this was a dangerous game being played. I had been such a fool that I hadn't realized that I was being set as the victim of the game.

Elder Morris had banged the door and had quickly left the room before I made an attempt to do so. I still kept on wondering whose orders Elder Morris was obeying.

It was obvious that it wasn't the Alpha, who then wasn't capable of making sure that an orchestrated game as this was being played.

I buried my head in my palms as I continued to imagine what sort of mess I had indeed gotten myself into.

The truth of the matter was that I just found myself not even believing anything anymore. I wasn't even sure if the Brian really had the Rauna Curse, I wasn't sure who had manipulated Martha and had made her inject Brian, neither was I sure if Brian survived or better still if he was alive.

Maybe killing Brian In the first place wasn't just a bad idea, because even Martha, who I had solely tried to protect, probably thinks that I am an enemy to her already. Just like I had said earlier my aim was to leave here and expose their atrocities to the Alpha.

I raised my head as I lifted my hands at the same time when I heard a knock on the door. I just couldn't wait to get Elder Morris killed. I had earlier gotten a knife from the drawer and hidden it really well, if she got into the house again, I was ready to make her my hostage, at least that would draw the attention of the Alpha, and their atrocities would be exposed.

I stood up gently as I walked towards the door. I could see my heart racing, and my wolf side indeed was ready for the next move. My wolf side could literally hear the footsteps approaching the door really loud.

Furthermore, I closed my eyes and breathed out to ease myself and get ready for the worst to come. It had really come to the point of fighting for my life. This doesn't sound like a joke to me anymore, I have been confined in the house for hours now and no one really doubts whether I have been locked alone.

The door knob was twisted by someone outside the house, and just then the door was pushed allowing the person to get into the house. I had decided to act naturally until I was able to put the knife across the neck of Elder Morris and that would be all.

But my eyes widened, and my jaw dropped when the figure entered into the room, it was Martha.

I touched in the knife back as I tried to be unnoticed, this wasn't who I thought would come in through that door. The aim was to get Elder Morris and not Martha. There was no way that I was going to hurt her, but what was she doing here? She had definitely made me look like an enemy to her, if only I had the chance and the time to explain better to her before all if this had happened.

As she walked into the room, I noticed the tray of food in her hands, she strode slowly into the room without saying a word, she headed straight to the table to keep the food. It was then I noticed a piece of clothing underneath, it was then I realized that Elder Morris has indeed sent her to me to hand over the food and the clothing.

A tear escaped my eyes when my eyes got in contact with the clothes, it was the clothes given to the offenders of the pack, they had to wear it until they are being penalized or punished.

One of the guards watched her until she dropped the food, and then she handed the clothes over to me.

“Martha” I said, my voice above a whisper.

“Change to this now” she ordered, her face straight.

I shook my head, as I declined to get the clothes from her, moving to the other side. I was not going to put that on, not even if I was forced to.

“I can't Martha, I won't do that, I'm not a prisoner” I yelled

She turned to the back, as she exchanged glances with the guard who stood close to the door.

“Do you want to watch her change her clothes, you should have respect for women” she said

I didn't care what she was saying, all I knew was that I was never going to put on those clothes.

The guard hesitated for a moment before closing the door behind. It seemed like Martha's words were deep. There was silence in the room immediately after the door was shut. Martha and I remained in the room.

“Why are you acting this way Martha?” I asked as I moved closer to her, at least there was nobody in the room with us, there should be an explanation.

But as soon as I took a step towards her, Martha threw the clothes on the bed, then turned her face to me. She then quickly ran to where I stood. It was really shocking to see tears pouring out from her eyes. I didn't understand what was going on.

“I'm sorry Liora, I'm sorry for everything, but they had promised to let me see Brian, but I haven't seen him since” she said as she fell to the ground

She closed her mouth with one of her palms to make sure she didn't make a loud sound while sobbing.

“Who promised you Martha?” I asked with a hinge of curiosity in my voice.

“I really didn't see their faces except Elder Morris” she answered as she tried to speak quickly, while checking if the other guards hadn't stepped in.

“Hell no!Who gave you that syringe ?” I asked as I held her tightly.

“I don't know, but I suspect that there's something wrong. What do you know?  Can you help ?” She asked.

Tears streamed down my face as I stared at her again.

“I might, but I can't do that here, being confined in this room” I answered.

“I can't do anything right now, but I would come back for you, But you need to wear this clothes now, so that the guards don't suspect anything” she said as she hurriedly stood up.

I nodded and grabbed the clothes from the bed, just as I was putting it on, the door swung open again, Martha pretended as she stood at the other side of the room with a straight face.

Elder Morris walked in, and came close to me.

“The Lycan king and the Alpha have requested to see you” she said with fury burning in her.

I lifted my head as I looked at her, Does the Lycan king know that I was in danger?"

“Pull off that clothes, and wear something better” Elder Morris instructed, asking me to drop the prisoners' clothes on the bed, so that I would dress in something that looked better.

Elder Morris and I exited the room and headed straight to meet the king, just as we were on our way Elder Morris grabbed my hands quickly, her mouth pressed on my ears as she spoke.

“Listen to me carefully”
