CHAPTER EIGHTY.

(Meliora's POV)

I had placed one of my fingers on one of my lips as I instructed Martha not to say a word. The plan was to make sure that the person would leave after several knocks on the door.

We kept silent for a while trying not to make a sound, at least that would justify that we were still fast asleep or not inside the room, but unfortunately, it seems like this person wasn't willing to leave anytime soon, it felt like he or she knew that Martha was definitely in the house.

I quickly rolled over to hide under the bed close to the wardrobe, that was the only option I had, at least I couldn't say who was coming into the house through that door.

It seemed like Elder Morris had noticed my disappearance from the room and now there was going to be a search warrant. I closed my eyes tightly trying not to make a sound under the bed.

However, I hinted to Martha to go check on who was at the door.

Martha walked slowly and carefully to the door. She looked at me before opening the door, but made sure she stood at the front of the door in order to stop anyone from coming into the room.

She also couldn't say who was yelling her name very early this morning.

As soon as she opened the door, Martha greeted the supposed person in front of her as they began to engage in a conversation.

Though it wasn't an argument, it seemed like it was a serious issue. The conversation was taking long, and it had begun to seem that my disappearance was known by the pack.

After several minutes, Martha walked back into the house, making sure she closed the door behind her so tightly before sitting on the bed.

I waited for some seconds before pulling myself from up.

“Who was that Martha?” I asked, staring at her.

“She is one of the girls that lived very close to this place” she answered.

I noticed her expression, it seemed like there was something wrong. I could sense it, even if Martha and I hadn't spoken this morning until now, but I could still feel that there was something regarding the conversation.

“What about her ? Did she say anything? What did she say?” I asked, moving close to where she sat.

“It's nothing Meliora, We just need to find Brian” she answered.

However, I still noticed that there was something she wasn't saying. This wasn't Martha, there was something the girl had told her, and if I was right, it wasn't entirely good news.

“Martha” I said my voice above a whisper.

She hesitated but after a few seconds she turned to me, her eyes pleading for help,

“Yes, Liora” she managed to speak up.

“I know you, we've been friends for months now, I know when you are excited, and I also know when you are down, this isn't you, tell me what's wrong ?” I asked

Martha shook her head again, she tried to fight back her tears, but it seemed like it was too hard to do so, I could see the balls of tears in her eyes as they flowed down her cheeks.

She couldn't hide it anymore, tears flowed down her cheeks uncontrollably as she stared at me.

“I just don't want to believe that Liora” she stammered as she responded.

“Tell me everything, you are going to be fine Martha” I replied trying to comfort her.

“She had heard that Brian is dead” she replied

“No, You aren't sure yet, you just don't dwell on that Martha, be strong” I said as I begged her.

Martha kept on sobbing like she had gotten to the end of the world, I kept on comforting her, but it seemed like she couldn't listen.

“I just don't know why I feel like she's saying the truth” she said

“What would you think that Brian would do if he finds out that you do not trust him, don't you believe that he is a strong man, Don't give up easily, Brian needs you at this point” I replied.

Martha immediately wiped her tears, as she looked back at me.

“I'm sorry Brian, I'm sorry Brian, I don't mean to give up on this” she said as she fell on the bed and continued crying.

“I had promised you that we would find Brian, we would save him, he isn't dead yet, I'm sure he is still here somewhere, we just need to figure that out” I answered.

Martha nodded her head again as she held her stomach with one of her hands, she looked at her stomach and rubbed it, just like she was trying to communicate with the baby.

Suddenly, our heart raced as there was another knock on the door, this time it was rigorous and intense, Martha raised her head from the bed as we both stared at the door wondering who it was.

Martha wolfed her eyes immediately, her heart began to pound really fast, I quickly moved to the other side of the bed and hid under the bed again, making sure there was no noise.

“Mrs Martha” one of the guards yelled as he banged the door again.

Martha adjusted herself as she wiped off the trace of tears from her eyes with her dress before walking towards the door.

I looked through as I tried to see if I would be able to recognize who was coming into the room.

Martha opened the door slightly, as she answered the guard who stood in front of her.

“Elder Morris intends to see you now at the Nursery” the guard said.

“Why has she requested to see me?” Martha asked as she looked at the guards curiously?

“Someone escaped, and two guards were found dead this morning, It seems like you were one of the last people who went into that room that night” the guard said

“Someone escaped ?” Martha exclaimed, acting like she didn't understand what he was saying.

“Yes, That's why your attention is needed right now, just come with us” the guard said

“I'll be out, I should take my …” I paused as one of the guards interrupted

“No, you can't, just come with us,” he said, stopping her from getting into the room again.

Martha slowly followed them, I could see the fear in her eyes as she walked away.
