CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN.
(Meliora's POV)
Indeed, there was actually a light at the end of the tunnel, I really couldn't believe that Martha could work this out.
Her words stuck in my head like glue for the second time, though I had tried as much as possible to comprehend how she was able to come in without getting unnoticed.
“Hurry, let's leave now, It's dark and everyone is sleeping inside their houses” Martha said as she stood close to the door trying to make sure that no one walked in through that door.
I looked around to pick up a few things, but there was really nothing I was taking here in this room, probably just a cloth which might be helpful in the long run.
Martha was still panting, but I could see how determined she was in making sure that I was safe, And to sum it up we needed to uncover what had exactly happened to Brian.
We both dashed out of the room as we began to run slowly that night. I had told Martha to make sure she wasn't endangering herself or the unborn child.
We hid behind the wall of one of the houses close by, Martha and I walked slowly, and on getting closer we rested our back's on the wall. We just needed to make sure that no one was watching or stalking us.
“Did you check the Lycan king chambers ?” I asked curiously as we moved ahead onto the dark part ahead of us.
“I did, I searched almost everywhere, but it seemed like he had left before I got there” she answered.
“Then you should have met with the Alpha instead, he was also going to help” I suggested
Martha turned to me, her eyes saying another thing and her expression showing something else, I really couldn't place what was wrong.
“What is it, Martha? What happened back there ?” I questioned as we moved away from the lights of one of the houses which was placed outside.
“Nothing happened” she answered, her eyes scanning the environment and making sure we were not being trailed.
“But your face earlier didn't say so” I responded
“It's just that, I couldn't trust anyone anymore, not even the Alpha” she responded as she tried to fight back her tears
“No, you don't say that Martha, I know Elder Morris is the devil here, but don't use that against the Alpha, he is still a good man” I answered
“Well, I just can't trust anyone anymore, it feels like we have all been living on lies, which is pretty bad, don't know which is the truth, don't know who to turn to anymore” she responded.
“He is really not aware of all of this, Elder Morris is, and she is making sure no information about this gets to the Alpha or the king” I whispered.
She shook her head, as she tried not to understand from my perspective, she still believed that the Alpha had wronged her.
“Where are we heading to now? What are your plans?” She asked, trying to break the silence.
“Brian first, our aim is Brian, we need to find him” I responded just like I had promised her in the room earlier.
“This place is a lot, What possible places do we think Brian would be kept if not dead” she said.
“I'm more familiar, I work in the Nursery and I know how Elder Morris does her things. I know places where they could have kept him, but I hope he isn't just…” I paused
“Then let's hurry now” Martha said as she made a small path for me to lead the way.
In a swift movement, we ran across one of the buildings as we headed out. I was going to check the other Nursery where only a few of the wolves knew about. A lot of people weren't allowed to get in there, and now the more I thought about it, it had been hidden probably because they were things that Elder Morris and some others were probably keeping a secret from the others.
Though Elder Morris had taken me there on some occasions, I was restricted to get into exact places in the room.
I walked slowly, and closely to the wall as we checked if there were still some guards there.
Just like I had expected, there were two guards in front of the building, though I just couldn't have a hand-to-hand combat since I hadn't mastered it really well.
Martha and I strode in slowly as we approached the guards, one of them came closer deliberately stopping us from moving.
“Elder Morris has asked that I get something from here at the moment” I said, sounding simple and at least believing
“But, she had instructed us that no one gets into the place till morning, How then did she change her words” one of the guards replied
“It was an emergency, we have an emergency at the moment that's why she had told me to come get it, it's an order” I answered
“Elder Morris would have handed a seal to you, to show that she had sent you” one of the guards objected.
However, One of the guards walked away, whispering something to the ear of the other.
At this point, I just knew it was going to be hard getting into the room, the guards were not going to succumb to our words, and they would definitely soon discover that we were lying.
There was silence for a few seconds and I knew I just needed to do whatever it took to make sure we got into that room. Secondly, if I was caught again, I would be dragged back and killed.
My hands moved slowly underneath my sleeves as I held the small knife slowly, I was scared, but this was the only option.
Though I had attended hand-to-hand combat training, I had never really used them for emergencies like this. I made sure that my movements were unnoticed, or else that was the end of it all for me.
My voice roared out loud as my hands moved against the throat of the guard. Before he could realize what was going on, the knife had gotten in his throat. He tried holding my hands, but I was strong enough to insert it more into his throat. I held him tightly as he gagged, his body fell to the ground.
Martha and I quickly made our way in, to search for Brian if he was still alive. We searched the rooms tirelessly for hours, but we couldn't find anything or discover Brian's body.
Just as we turned, we noticed an opening in one of the doors, we slowly walked towards the door, I moved in slowly, it seemed like someone was there recently for something.
I moved quickly to the table and found a record of something, without hesitating I flipped it over, and then I realized that it was Brian's record. It obviously means he was still somewhere close and probably not dead.
“He is not dead” I said to Martha as I held her hands.
“But we do not know where he is, and you have to leave this village at this minute,” Martha said as she cried.
“What if I don't leave?” I asked
“They will kill you,” she replied.
“ Is there is a possibility that I could be in the village without anyone knowing, and their assumptions might be that I had run away" I said
Martha stared at me as she nodded her head.
