CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN.

(Meliora POV)

“Where have you been Meliora ?” Martha managed to speak up, as she whispered,

“I have just been there trying to survive,” I said, staring in another direction as I talked.

She broke down in tears for some moment without saying a word to me.

“I saw Brian," she said, staring into my eyes.

“Brian?” I exclaimed, my jaw dropped as I stared at her.

“I saw him somewhere here, while I was being brought here, I can't remember, but he is here” she responded, her voice low and urgent.

“We have to leave now, we are wanted, we would find Brian now, just anything could happen to us any moment from now, the moment we find Brian we would be leaving this place” I said.

“Do you by chance remember where you saw him?” I murmured, trying to act perfectly.

“I just can't remember, but I saw him, he is laying on one of the beds in that room” Martha said

“I promise to find him” I answered as I looked at Martha

She shook her head, I knew she was frustrated, weak and in pain.

“You should wait here, I would try to check out the rooms if I could get to see Brian, I will come back for you” I said.

Martha shook her head again, trying not to be detected before whispering the words to me.

“I don't think I can do this any longer Meliora, there are a lot of guards here, and they would kill us if we tried to escape” Martha responded

“Martha, you need to be strong, it's better we die trying to escape than staying here, there is a chance of survival if we escape” I responded.

“But look at the guards, there are a lot of them here, we literally can't do anything on our own,” Martha said, staring at the surroundings.

A lot of guards had started moving out too, in search of me.

“Did you get to meet the Alpha who could help us out?” Martha asked, staring at me.

I just didn't know how to let her know that the Alpha was definitely part of the enemies we have been fighting, I couldn't believe what had happened, it seemed like things were just so complicated.

“What's wrong Martha?” She asked

“The Alpha is just like an enemy as well, he is also part of the ones who doesn't want me to leave this place, I overheard his discussion” I answered.

Martha couldn't believe what I had just said to her, she couldn't understand what I meant by that.

“The Alpha?”  She asked

“Yes, the only person who is currently by our side is the Lycan king” I answered

“Why the Alpha?, Did you wrong him?” she asked.

“I didn't, but I know that something transpired between the Alpha and the Lycan king” I said.

“What could that be?” She asked.

I wasn't sure of the reason, and I couldn't just jump to conclusions, I needed to get my assumptions right.

“I can't say, but for now, we just need to leave at this moment* I answered.

“I just can't seem to believe all of this, this is really bad” Martha said.

“We have to leave Martha, but I will check for Brian first” I answered.

“Is there a plan for that?” Martha asked, staring at everyone in the prison. It seemed like she wanted us to help them as well, she feared what the Alpha would do to them

“We can't save everyone., we just have to leave” I said as I looked at her

“Yes, I will be back soon, just wait a little longer” I answered.

I walked out unnoticeable as I headed back to check out the rooms, if possibly I was able to see Brian.

The rooms were a lot, just as the cages that accommodated prisoners were a lot too.

“Why exactly had they brought Brian to this place, Brian wasn't a prisoner, why then was he brought here?” I tried asking myself.

I looked behind trying to make sure that no one was staring at me, I was the person of interest and if I was eventually caught here, it was going to be disastrous.

As soon as I was sure that no one was walking behind, I started to check out the rooms to see if I could get Brian, at least we were all going to leave immediately somehow.

I opened one of the doors and noticed that there was no one in there. I went on to the second, third, and fourth, and just that way I kept on checking to see if there was a room where Brian was laid.

And that was if what Martha had said was really true, it was going to be hard to believe that Brian was here of all places though, he wasn't a prisoner.

As I walked to another room, I just noticed a small wardrobe close to the door. At this point I needed to check everything and make sure there was no stone uncovered.

I slowly opened the wardrobe making sure I was ready for any attack if the need be.

Just as I did so, the door opened as I noticed that nothing really important was inside, it was just an empty bag and clothes worn by the guards.

I was annoyed, I just left the room angrily, but the moment I realized how important the clothes and empty bag would serve, I went back to the room and picked up the clothes, I folded it into the bag and then carried it in my hands.

I moved out to search all the other places. Just as I left that room, I got into another, it was there that I heard some sound, the person was actually groaning in pain.

I quickly ran into the room, it was almost the same way Brian was breathing the other day, just as I pushed the door of the room, my jaw dropped as I saw the person in there with chains on her face, but it was pretty obvious that she was dragging out the chains with her might, there were a lot of bruises on her body, she lifted her head and stared at me.

The eyes were pleading to rescue her, at least to take off the chains from her.

“Who are you ? What are you doing here ?” I asked.

“I'm Lara, please help me” she managed to speak.

“Why were you chained here?” I wondered if she was another kind of prisoner, I couldn't understand why she was kept in a separate room from the other prisoners.

But the bruises on her body weren't as a result of being beaten, they were something I had kind of seen at the nursery before.

“Please help me, remove the chains” she pointed to the angle where the chains were hooked.

I felt pity as I took a step closer, suddenly, I heard a shout behind.
