CHAPTER 15

Dawn Scarlett

"As you enter the library you are going to meet the librarian there. He is a mage, by the way, he may actually startle you the moment you step inside because it's been a while since someone is interested in entering the imperial library. But you do not have to worry that much, he is pretty friendly. "

That is what he just said and I was about to turn my head to face him again when suddenly I just felt that his presence already disappeared from the hall and even the stuffiness that I am feeling since a while ago also disappeared. Those two, can't they just leave the hall normally by not using their magic powers? Because even if I look this calm I am still getting quite shocked because of what they are actually doing!

They could have just considered the fact that I am really left in the shadows that magic is existing in this world and that almost everyone knows how to use it because I basically lost my memories - oh well, even if I really did not in the first place.

*sigh* Anyways, I just go to the imperial library to kill some time and of course, find the answers that I need. Well, and I do not know why but I am kind of anticipating meeting the mage that guards that place just like what Trajan said. What does he actually look like? How friendly he is actually? And I also cannot help but think that maybe he knows something about the nine-tailed fox and also the tattoos that appeared on my body.

I better go now, time is ticking and I do not want to waste time.

*

And so, after a few minutes of walking around the imperial palace, I finally reached the imperial library. I did not expect that the library would be this huge, although I am still just standing here outside the door of it I know that it is indeed a huge one compared to the libraries that I have been in my previous life. And also, this library has really a vintage, classy and expensive vibe that surrounds it. This library is of its own league - oh well I guess it is natural since this is a library owned by the imperial family, it is natural for it to have the vintage, classy and expensive vibe to it.

I roam my eyes around the door and I noticed the words that are engraved on the upper part of the door. I thought that it is actually something special but it was only the word "Imperial Library". But other than that, I also noticed that the door handle is different well, just like other door handles in the palace it is obviously made out of gold but compared to the other rooms that have silver crystals and to the rooms that Emperor Aurelius use which has gold crystals, this library has red crystals on the door handle which are obviously rubies.

I really did not expect that in my life I am going to see such expensive and rare crystals on the door handle - just like hell, being part of the imperial family is really such a privilege, so this is really why a lot of people want to try and overthrow the current emperor which is none other than Aurelius and of course, he cannot let that happen not because he cares about the privilege of being the emperor but because the people who try to covet his throne are greedy bastards and once they got what they want they will surely do nothing goo and the empire will surely experience its greatest downfall.

That is one of the reasons why I agreed to the marriage because I too want to ensure that the empire will stay not only on Aurelius rule but to make sure that no greedy bastard will take over it and destroy the city. Of course, I also care about the welfare of this city and although Aurelius is indeed cold and heartless it is pretty obvious that he is also doing a great job in making sure that there is justice among people.

No one is starving, like although there is a clear difference in the social status of a lot of people I haven't once seen a person on the streets wearing too ragged clothes and are begging for money. The system of transportation and other services are also of the top tier, the goods are affordable for everyone like there are soldiers that are roaming around the marketplace to ensure that the prices of the goods are not that high and that the vendors are not charging too much from the citizens. And if Aurelius' enemies actually succeeded and getting the throne from him I am pretty sure that there are a lot of things that will change and the crime rate will also increase drastically.

Anyways, I shouldn't waste time anymore, I really need to read a lot of books, and also, I am kind of curious about who is the mage that Trajan is talking about is because I may be able to know something that the books cannot give to me and also, I have a feeling that since he is a mage then he can explain to me a few things about that nine-tailed fox that I can see and also some things about the gods of this world.

And so, I walked near the door and the moment I opened it I felt jolts run through my body - I basically had goosebumps and at the same time the smell of books entered my nostrils which is kind of nostalgic because before I am always at the school or city library reading books about my course. I really never go anywhere else because I am so focused on studying, I do not even have a nightlife like things like going to the bar, drinking, and stuff. I never experienced it during my college years and even my years in medical school, I just learned how to drink and have a nightlife when I am already working but the surprising thing is that although it was my first time drinking I really did not get drunk or puked. I was the last person standing and I guess it is a good thing because no one dared to spike my drink and even if they did I can instantly notice it.

And so, this place is filled with magic as well - well, I guess that is only natural since the one that guards this place is a mage.

Since I felt like the books are already calling me I instantly stepped inside the library and I felt something different- it was a similar feeling that I felt a while ago the moment that Aurelius snapped his fingers. It was really similar but also it was different because I do not feel uncomfortable for some reason unlike a while ago when I really felt that I am suffocating from some unknown reason.

"Hello there, this is the first time in a while ever since that bastard Aurelius become an emperor that someone dared to visit the imperial library. What can I do for you, my lady" someone suddenly said and the moment that I returned to reality I instantly saw a man with bright red hair standing - no he is actually floating right in front of me. I am about to freak out because who wouldn't?! But of course, before I could I already calmed my ass down like what the f-ck? Who wouldn't freak out when they suddenly see someone floating right before their eyes?!

Especially for people like me who believed that magic is non-existent, f-ck I really want to scream right now because I am still not that alright in seeing such abilities - I just found out that it actually exists a while ago! But anyway, I need to keep my damn act together because for sure this person who is floating right before my eyes is the mage that Trajan is talking about and I have a feeling that whatever he will see in me, he will instantly report it to Aurelius. So, I really need to be careful that my actions will not be busted.

I am about to introduce myself to him - to tell him that I am the doctor that is curing the Emperor's legs when suddenly he took a leap backward - it was like he just saw something unusual that made him literally widen the distance between the two of us and right now he is on the defensive stance.

"Who are you? Why do you have such aura!" he exclaimed and I cannot help but frown because of what I heard, what does he actually mean by that? I am just about to introduce myself anyway but the thing is why is he acting that way?. "Where are you from?! No human being could ever possess such a pure aura! You also have an unusual soul!" he continued which almost made my jaw drop. Like what the hell is he saying?

I am about to open my mouth in order to finally introduce myself because I have a feeling that it will calm his ass down when suddenly he exclaimed again.

"What the hell? Why cannot I read your mind? I cannot even use my magic!"

Damn - is this really the mage that Trajan said is guarding the library? Seriously? He does look one however he does not act like one - he is too hysterical for heaven's sake! I saw him almost open his mouth again, probably he'll say something about me again in a hysterical manner when I instantly cut him off because I really just cannot stand it anymore.

"Can you please let me introduce myself first before you react that way?!" I exclaimed and as I look at him I saw how his eyes widen as if he did not expect me to actually raise my voice for a moment. Oh well, I cannot help it - he is getting annoying and also he really should stop overreacting when he still does not know me completely.

“Finally” I whispered as I heave a sigh then I once again looked at him "My name is Dawn Scarlett, I am the doctor hired by the Emperor himself to cure his legs and he also gave me the permission to use this place" I said, basically, introducing myself and as if on cue, his eyes once again widen as if he cannot believe what he just heard and then the next thing he said instantly made me frown.

"The Dawn Scarlett?"

What the heck does he mean by "the Dawn Scarlett"? Is there something that I need to know like hell is this really the consequence of just focusing on curing people for the whole year and not minding anything else? The hell I am really completely left in the dark and I cannot let that continue - I badly need answers especially to everything that Fourteen had said a while back. I am not going to really know everything that I need to know by hook or by crook.
