CHAPTER 29
Dawn Scarlett
He said and then he looked at the panther who is sitting beside him and it is obvious that the panther is the being that he formed a magic bond with. But what the hell? If that is the consequence then why did he engage in such a bond? Why not just use the familiar bond or something? I am about to ask that question to him when suddenly he started speaking again and it is already the answer to the question I have on my head
"We, Grey magic-users cannot have familiar bonds so we have to rely on magic bonds and once a connection is made with the other being, they are able to sense each other, where they are, and get a feeling of what the other is going through. But the greater the distance, the less you can sense your partner. If the bond is unusually strong, then the two beings are able to communicate telepathically. Telepathy only works in close range and is a VERY hard thing to do for most people/animals. You mostly get "feelings" from your partner, rather than actually talking to them. If your partner gets hurt you will not feel the pain of your partner, though you will probably feel that "your partner is in pain". But the thing is that it is possible to nullify a magic bond if both parts want to."
*
Alright so, there is a possibility that the magic bond from the human being and an unusual being could be null and void if both parties want to but then again what if both parties want to retain the bond and of course, as Alaistair mentioned both are able to feel the pain of the other but is there actually a way in order to remove that condition? I want to know because of the fact that if the contractor dies then so is the being that he or she bonded with and I am really bothered by it.
"However, in my case my bond - this panther right here is exempted from those conditions because obviously, I have found a way in order for the magic bond to work the same as how a familiar bond does. Meaning despite me dying - he will continue to live his life and he is given a chance to be with another contractor just in case he found someone worthy but then again guess he really is a loyal cat" Alaistair said and with that, I do not know but for some reason, I felt relieved while I am looking at the panther sitting just right beside him. Well, I guess that feeling is from what he said that he found a way in order to remove that shitty condition which means that his bond did not die when he did decades ago.
Well, I am really bothered with whatever the condition is in having that magic bond like what the heck I really thought that it was the same as the Familiar bond that Raphael is talking about and what I and Yuki have but I really did not expect that it would be way different.
"Next type of grey magic is the magic of Shape-Shifting. " Alaistair stated which instantly caught my attention because I often see such things in movies in my previous life especially in a fictional, fantasy type of movies
"Basically, Shape-Shifting is considered to be a rare type of magic that enables the user to transform into an animal. Shape-Shifting runs in the family and is extremely rare nowadays. Shapeshifting is something you a born with and is not something that can be learned. A shapeshifter can transform into one animal only, and can't turn into something between animal and human. They can maintain their animal form indefinitely, sleeping, injury, or losing consciousness won't turn the shifter back to their human form. They will stay in their animal form until they, themselves decide to transform back to their human form. However, Serpent Steel can force Shapeshifters to revert to their human form.
In their animal form, shapeshifters can still use magic, but their magical power is cut to half of their original power in human form. They will also have the physical and senses of the animal they are transforming into. Just, for example, A dog shapeshifter will have a stronger sense of smell and hearing in their animal form. Also, their animal form will also have similar traits, just like the eye color, hair color, scar, and other things to their human form, slight variation can occur, but you won't see a shapeshifter with brown eyes to transform into an animal with blue eyes. But, when a shapeshifter dyes their hair, it is possible to transform the hair color of their animal form, although it will be only in the same area where the shapeshifter has their hair colored. Another example is that when a blue-haired cat shapeshifter will have blue fur in their head area only, the rest of the body will stay the same color." Alaistair mentioned and that made me surprised or rather I am more amazed at the ability that shape-shifters but then again I also cannot help but think that are there also restrictions in this magic since it is part of or rather one of the types of Grey Magic? But if there are restrictions I guess the only reason why there is really a restriction is because of the fact that it is a component of the Grey Magic which I could actually relate to black magic.
"Also, don't be surprised if a shapeshifter could actually speak because they can really still speak while in their animal form. The Shapeshifters are taught to enchant their clothing as one of the subjects that are being taught to them ever since they are kids. So that when a shapeshifter transforms, their clothing will also be included in their transformation and so the clothing will disappear and returns upon transformations, and also, it doesn't really affect their animal form appearance. However, after the last calamity which was during our era, a lot of shapeshifters actually disappeared and there are actually a few rumors that the restrictions on shapeshifters were enhanced because ordinary human beings fear them, some also suspect that they were hunted, enslaved, or sold in the black market because of their rare abilities and because of those things they have no choice but to run for their lives and hide somewhere without being seen by any human being. " That is what Alaistair had said I cannot help but to pity the people who are able to use this type of magic - it is really not their fault that they are born with such type of ability and without a doubt despite them being able to shapeshift into anything that they want to - they are still human beings, that is just simply their ability.
The worst thing that I have heard is the fact that they are hunted, enslaved, or sold in the black market because of their rare abilities - like what the actual fck? They do not deserve such treatment - the restrictions are actually alright because that is part of the precautionary measures of the kingdom because they have reasons of their own I guess but those other things are really fcking brutal and I guess it is normal for people who are born with such ability are hiding and they are really want to distance themselves to other people because their lives are literally on the line.
And I can relate in one way or another but the only difference is that I am hiding publicly the fact that I already died once, that I came from another world, I am reincarnated here in this world by the decision of the gods and the fact that I am the chosen one or the divine lady whatsoever.
"Last kind of grey magic is magic that is part of the Traditional Spells" - Alaistair continued and I am just standing on the same spot, listening intently to what he is about to say.
"Traditional Spells are old written spells that are created and only can be used for a single purpose. Unlike other types of magic, Elemental Magic, for example, each time a spell is used, the user must recite the entire incantation (or a shortened version of it) in order to activate its effect. Usually, spells are used for exorcism or protection spells. Spells are a very old practice and very few people use them. In order to create a spell, a person must have a certain amount of knowledge energies, and spirits to weave together a spell with words. It's a rather complicated process and because of its single-use mechanism, usually, non-magic users use spells as a substitute because they can't cast other magic. Mages do not tend to use spells that often. Spells are the only type of 'magic' that is able to be used by non-magic users. The reason behind this is that the spell's power depends on the words spoken by the person, not how big magic ability a person has." He ended his lecture and for some reason, a question popped out inside my head - well, it is really a question out of curiosity and I know that only he can answer my question because of course, he is the expert in the field.
"Is it possible for me to be able to use Grey Magic?
