CHAPTER 49

Dawn Scarlett



"Again, Dawn Scarlett you have to remember that although you possess one elemental magic which is the fire element there is more than that. The Fire element is the most mesmerizing of the rest, and yet it’s the only one that can’t be touched without harm to the body. It definitely screams power and dominance and not to mention that you possess a greater fire variant than mine." Raphael stated and I just can't help but heave a sigh as I wipe off the sweat on my forehead.



We have been training for almost four hours now on how should I summon and control the fire elemental magic that resides within my body and even if it's already been four hours I still cannot seem to control it. Yes, I am able to summon it but I always end up losing control of it, and luckily, Raphael and Alaistair took the liberty to cast a barrier around the three of us in order to prevent damage here in the imperial library because if they didn't I am pretty sure that half of the library would already be broken by now.



It's already been six days since I have started my lecture about being a noblewoman and the things that I should remember about my identity and tomorrow - which is supposed to be the last day of the lecture series turned out to be my rest day. Trajan, who is the brother of the emperor and the one who is assigned by the latter to take care of my studies on how to act and speak like a noblewoman and to brief me about the things that I should know about my fake identity told me a while ago that our lecture is already finished and he has nothing to teach to me anymore; that there is no more need to review everything that we have talked about for the past days because obviously, I have already gotten the hang of it. That he is pretty sure that I am going to do well in the days to come - that no one will doubt my identity as Dawn Scarlett Machiavelli and that is why tomorrow was declared as my rest day.



I can do whatever I want and no one will disturb me, it was also quite surprising that the Emperor, Aurelius even allowed me to go outside of the Imperial Palace, and because he gave me permission I will really go out first thing in the morning tomorrow. I badly need to take a breather because I know the day after tomorrow will already change a lot in my life and it is going to be pretty much stressful.



Actually, Trajan only took a few hours of my time today just to give me a few gentle reminders about what will happen the day after tomorrow, and after that, he left the imperial library. And because I have nothing to do anymore, I just asked Raphael to teach me the basics of being able to control the fire element that resides inside my body. Well, actually he already briefed me in the past few days but those were just a few exercises it was not like what I am doing today and I did not expect that it would be this tiring and it is going to be this hot that I am sweating too much.



Well, Alaistair and Raphael are also quite sweating but the thing is they are using magic to keep their cool - well, they really are putting their magic to good use. Seriously, I really never thought that I will struggle controlling magic - well, I already know that I will not do well since I am completely oblivious to how this works since the gods did not even give a manual on how magic works but the thing is I never thought it would be this hard to do. It is draining both my physical and mental strength and I bet that the moment that I lay down on my bed I will instantly sleep, most probably I wouldn't even be able to take dinner.



"Fire is basically represented by the Sun and its light, as well as the stars, deserts, and volcanoes, Fire is the element of transformation, and is associated with illumination, health, strength, and creativity. Always in motion, even when rooted in one spot, it is the most active and animated of the classical Elements. As a contribution to the natural order of the world, Fire keeps forests healthy through cycles of burning and regeneration. Of course, just like what I have said this same power is also dangerous and deadly when unchecked, which is why this Element commands such respect from those who seek to use it, especially the fire variant that you possess. The moment that you lost control of your power, it can be an end of a city so it is a good thing that you have asked me to teach you about it first. Furthermore, Fire can be extinguished by any of the other Elements, but it is also the only Element that must have another substance to consume in order to maintain its existence however there are certain cases, especially if the person who wields it is strong enough to keep the fire growing and can never be extinguished that easily by other elements" he added and I just nod my head in response. I rather just respond through body movements than speaking because speaking consumes a lot more energy than minimal body movements and I rather not waste my energy because I know that my energy will continuously be greatly consumed as this training continues.





"It is really going to be hard for you to control it since the intensity of your fire element is different from the common one, it is even way different from mine. I have already foreseen that you will really struggle in controlling it since first and foremost you haven't even had proper training when you are born and that you were transmigrated here just how you looked like when you died in your previous life" Raphael stated once again and I couldn't actually agree more with his opinion. And that is the fault of the gods - seriously they could have just let me experience an ordinary life with a family and still make me retain the memories I have with my previous life.



"Hey, Raphael can I say something?" Alaistair suddenly interrupted and the both of us looked in his direction and he is just right there, sitting while patting the panther, which is his bond's head.



"What it is?" Raphael asked



"We are well aware that the intensity of an element depends on the user, the knowledge, and how they cultivated it right but we cannot also deny the fact that there are instances where we are just born with it. For example, just like you" Alaistair said and I saw how Raphael squinted his eyes as if he is saying that Alaistair should go directly to the point already. I do not know but for some reason, although they knew each other for quite a long time already they are still acting like how cats and dogs would act. I don't know if they really don't get along or it's just that it is their way of friendship.



"In our years of existence and the fact that we have already discovered a lot of things in first years of our lives, we have found out that nothing can exist before the most brilliant flames. Fire is the symbol of the beginning and the end, the light source, and the soul. Flames are symbols of destructive power, embodying truth and knowledge. It can be said that fire embodies the strongest source of power and the most energy. It is also the most highly prized element because of its intensity, beauty - everything about it is clearly magical. They consider this to be the ultimate element of the four elements because fire is also the embodiment of the gods, the sun, and the light." Alaistair continued and he then stopped patting his panther's head then he looked straight at me and what he said next literally made Raphael say a cuss because of a reason that only he knows.



"Have you ever thought of the fact that what if, the fire element variant that Dawn Scarlett possesses is the alpha and the omega that we have been once studying together with Lucius but we just gave up because we never really found a clue if it can really exist?"



I do not know what Alaistair meant by what he just said but right after Raphael let out a cuss, his head instantly turned towards my direction and his eyes suddenly twinkled - the same reaction he always gave me whenever he is fascinated about me and in that moment I knew that I am going to be put to a test or something.

It's already been more or less thirty minutes since Alaistair said that assumption of his and it's already been that long since the two are moving around the imperial library as if they are searching for something - well, they are not literally moving around because they are just sitting and they are using their magical powers to move things around and search for whatever they are searching. And to be honest, I am getting curious about what they are actually searching for, and not to mention that they do look excited for some reason but anyway whatever they are doing it is beneficial to me because I am able to get a breather and rest my whole body after a four-hour straight training.



But still, it is really making me curious about what the heck is that alpha and omega they are talking about - okay I know what those two words mean; Alpha simply means the beginning, and Omega is the complete opposite which means the end. What I want to know is what does it actually directly mean in this world or rather in connection with the fire element.



"What are you searching for exactly?" I asked because I can no longer take it - my curiosity is really getting the best of me and why wouldn't I be curious? They are actually acting like their life is on the line.



"In our first life, just like what Alaistair has mentioned, we together with the chosen one of our time Lucius have been studying about magic and when we are studying about it, we found out that different elements and different magic that people possess differ in intensity - some are really gifted to possess strong magical abilities and some are mediocre. And when we are already focusing our studies on the Fire Element, we have found out that it is indeed the most powerful element, well aside from the shadow and vox element.



And just like what I have mentioned, people who can use the fire element are different from each other, sometimes even the fire that they use are different. Most people possess red-colored or orange-colored flames, there are some however that possess blue-colored flames. In my case, I have red-orange colored and blue colored flames. Our study about the fire element is about to end after we discovered how the three differs from each other in abilities and in power but then Lucius found out that there are two other types of flames that are a lot more dangerous than the blue-colored ones. And that are first, flames that have dark-red color and the second is pitch black flames. The three of us were very curious if such flames do exist so we devoted a year to find out if it does but, in the end, we found nothing - it is not that we gave up because even if we found nothing, Lucius still named it as the alpha and omega because he said that those flames are the beginning and the end, more specifically the light and the darkness" He lengthy said and I thought he was going to continue his explanation but Alaistair took the floor and continued for him.



The words that came out from Alaistair and how the two looked at me made me realize one thing - and that is the fact that I may have indeed possessed the two variants of the fire element that they are talking about.



"It's been a long time and we have even long forgotten that Lucius did mention the possible existence of the alpha and omega, but by looking at your flames a while ago, I have remembered it - it just slipped across my mind and the chances are high that you do possess the alpha and the omega. Indeed it is a good thing but at the same time, it is not because I remember Lucius saying that every powerful magic is both a blessing and a curse - a double-edged sword and we need to take precautionary measures about this"
