CHAPTER 19

Dawn Scarlett



"Don't get me wrong Dawn, although I am powerful and talented that son of a bitch Emperor is a lot more talented and powerful than I am and you are going to know why later as I teach you some of the basics of the arcane" he suddenly said as if he read what is exactly on my mind and I just cannot help but to nod my head because of what he just said and then I realized something after a minute or two.



"Wait - what the hell are you talking about that you are going to teach me the basics of magic? Hey, I am completely powerless and I do not exactly know how to use one so how the hell is you going to teach me exactly?!" I exclaimed immediately because seriously I do not have anything in particular that can be considered as magic - I clearly have no knack for such a thing because if I do have a talent or something magical inside my body then I could have already used it or it could have manifested in one way or another but the thing is it didn't so that only means that I am really powerless.



"You are saying that but did you realize that the little fox on your shoulders is already the manifestation that you do possess magic inside your body. Also, as a divine lady, it is natural for you to possess magic so whether you like it or not I am going to teach you the basics of it today and also I am going to answer other things that may concern you" he said with a huge smile plastered on his face and before I could even protest I just felt my whole body floating in the air.



Shit! I really did not sign up for this! These gods!! Ugh, I swear if I am going to meet those persons I am really going to throw a tantrum! I am not going to hesitate to throw hands!

"I already told you that I do not have magic powers of some sort, I do not even know how I summoned this little fella right here! I just woke up and he is already sitting on my stomach!" I exclaimed as I continue to catch my breath. Its already been a couple of minutes since this archmage guy right here which again goes by the name Raphael started to teach me the basics of magic and what he meant by basics is actually being able to feel that magic does exist inside my body - he is trying to make me summon it for some reason, letting it flow freely inside me and make it naturally flow outside of my body and resonate with the environment that I am in.



He said that when I have already successfully done that I am able to know what element I possess and that is where the real training starts. But the thing is, it's already been a couple of minutes and yet we haven't still gotten the results, and duh? If I really have magic power inside my body then I could have figured it out already because I have been frequently using my body and not to mention that I am also doing yoga and other things that involve exercising my body and keeping myself fit. Why did I mention that? Simply because what we are doing at the moment is just like yoga.



"You do have magic power, Dawn Scarlett. If you do not have magic power then how can you explain that uncomfortable feeling you mentioned a while ago when Aurelius Shen snapped his fingers? The same sensation you felt when you entered this place and when I am slightly using my powers already? How can you explain the fact that the magical particles around this place are right now, attaching themselves to you?" he said in a matter of fact tone and I couldn't help but heave a sigh because it is obvious that he is firm that I could really use magic and he already used the things that I told him a while ago - well, he asked a question if there is anything in particular that made me feel something unusual of the sort and of course I explained to him the scenario awhile ago with Aurelius and the moment that I entered this library.



Shit! If only I knew that those questions were part of this arcane training that he is making me undergo and my answers will be his basis if I could or couldn't use magic then I could have just lied from the beginning so that he is no longer going to force me to do these things and he will also not insist that I do have magic.



"*sigh* Magic is indeed a complicated thing, Dawn Scarlett and there are a lot of people in this world who cannot use it that is why it is both common and uncommon. The reason why you haven't seen any citizen in the town where you used to live using magic is not because of some law that prevents them from doing so but because they are born without magic and they have to rely on magical tools in order to protect themselves and other things" he said which made me stop for a moment as I go back on to the people that I have encountered in my one year of staying here in this place. And he is indeed correct about that, I really haven't seen anyone from the town use magic of some sort but they have this necklace - almost similar necklaces actually but I thought that it was just some kind of identification necklace to know that they are indeed a resident of the town and not a spy or what so ever.



"And yes, those necklaces are their magical tools that will inform the magic tower whenever they have encountered something unusual and it will also instantly create a magical barrier around them to keep them safe until the guards as well the mages arrive at where that person is" he continued which made me in awe for some reason and at the same time I cannot also help but to admire this world or city because they are really taking into consideration their citizens.



I guess that is why although Aurelius is not that charismatic, that he has this image of a tyrant because of his cold and heartless nature and also, despite the rumors circulating in the city - no one really dared to revolt and overthrow him from his position because in one way or another he is really doing his job as the city's emperor or ruler. Which in my past life is very rare.



In my previous life, we do not have an emperor as our leader - what we actually have is a president. The same in this world there are also aristocrats in my previous life which we call oligarchs and there are also people who help the president in governing things such as making laws and enacting those laws which are again, the same in this world. The only different thing is that in this world once Aurelius said something then it will instantly be considered as something that everyone needs to follow regardless of their opinion - his words are the law.



"Alright, so let's have a recap for a moment. " - Raphael said as he faked a cough before literally floating right in front of me again and even books started to float around me. "Magic is a power to use supernatural forces to make impossible things happen, such as making people disappear or controlling events in nature," he stated, actually he already said that a while ago but just like what he has said, we are going to have a recap of some sort.



"It is actually one of the oldest art forms and since written records began, magicians have baffled and amazed their audiences by creating illusions of the impossible. While most of their tricks remain precious secrets, scientists, myself among them, have started studying magic to gain insights into how and why our minds are so easily deceived. But it is more than that - magic is the ability to be able to use and manipulate the four elements which are Fire, Water, Earth, and Fire, and that is called elemental magic"



"Elemental Magic is the basic form of Magic a Mage is born with, this Magic is awakened at the same time they awaken as a Mage. Elemental Magic is basically a Telekinetic ability to manipulate the element they are born with. As an archmage, basically, I am able to utilize the four basic elements and additionally, I am able to use light magic which is called the vox, that is the reason why I am able to receive an oracle "



"Wait, so you have five elements than what about the emperor? You said a while ago that he is a lot more talented and skilled than you?" I instantly asked because I am really curious about what he said a while back that Aurelius is stronger than him despite being the archmage. Like how is that even possible? Oh well, in animated series, fictional movies I have seen, and fictional books I have read it is really possible for the emperor to be overpowered but this is not an animated film whatsoever - this is reality and I am living in this reality whether I like it or not.



"Oh yeah, I forgot to answer that query of yours a while ago, sorry 'bout that," he said as he even let out a chuckle and then as if on cue his floating stopped and even the books that are floating a while ago begin to stack up on top of a nearby table. "Aurelius Shen is a lot more powerful compared to me in one simple reason, and that is he is an elemental mage that can use the other additional elements which are lightning, metal, and shadow. Basically what made him powerful is his possession of the shadow element" he said and as if on cue words appeared right before my eyes. But it is not just words to be exact, it is a complete definition or a background to be precise of the elements he mentioned. And of course, he wants me to read every single thing.



And because that is what he wants I really did start reading and I cannot help but be amazed and interested in whatever it is that I am reading right now. And in my peripheral vision, I could see that the archmage named Raphael is actually smiling - it is as if he finally succeeded in catching my attention. Oh hell yes he did, however, I still am pretty skeptical to believe that I too possess this kind of thing.
