CHAPTER 30

Dawn Scarlett

"Last kind of grey magic is magic that is part of the Traditional Spells" - Alaistair continued and I am just standing on the same spot, listening intently to what he is about to say.

"Traditional Spells are old written spells that are created and only can be used for a single purpose. Unlike other types of magic, Elemental Magic, for example, each time a spell is used, the user must recite the entire incantation (or a shortened version of it) in order to activate its effect. Usually, spells are used for exorcism or protection spells. Spells are a very old practice and very few people use them. In order to create a spell, a person must have a certain amount of knowledge energies, and spirits to weave together a spell with words. It's a rather complicated process and because of its single-use mechanism, usually, non-magic users use spells as a substitute because they can't cast other magic. Mages do not tend to use spells that often. Spells are the only type of 'magic' that is able to be used by non-magic users. The reason behind this is that the spell's power depends on the words spoken by the person, not how big magic ability a person has." He ended his lecture and for some reason, a question popped out inside my head - well, it is really a question out of curiosity and I know that only he can answer my question because of course, he is the expert in the field.

"Is it possible for me to be able to use Grey Magic?

*

"Is it possible for me to be able to use Grey Magic?

After I asked that question, Raphael and Alaistair looked at each other for a few minutes, it is as if they are talking using their eyes on what will Alaistair say to me. After a while, the two looked at me synchronously, and then I saw Raphael put his hand on his forehead and I even heard him heave a deep sigh.

"Why did you suddenly ask that question?" He blurted out which made me instantly shrug my shoulders because I do not know too why I actually asked that question. I just really felt like asking it anyways because magic is just magic and also I can use elemental and spirit magic anyways so I am really curious if there is a possibility if I could use Grey Magic as well, like for example using Traditional spells. "*sigh* anyways, I guess you asked that question out of curiosity but to answer your question we do not know because the other chosen ones' before you cannot do so and we have thought before that it is impossible for a chosen one to be able to wield grey magic when they have spirit magic or divine magic inside their bodies - one is clearly an opposite of the other," Raphael added and I just nod my head in recognition that I accept his answer. Well, what he said actually has a point because really spirit magic or divine magic is the complete opposite of Grey magic and since they are contrasting magic it will surely pose trouble to me and my body in general. And also, wielding Grey Magic is actually a dangerous thing - I bet if I could be able to use one and the people of this city found out that I could then I am pretty sure that I will be exiled immediately as if I did not do something good to the people.

Of course, the law will still prevail but then again, it still greatly depends on Aurelius Shen on whether he will exile me from the city, execute me or just let me be and consider the fact that as a doctor I have helped a lot of people already.

"But if you do have an affinity for grey magic, I can assume that the only type that you could use is being able to use traditional spells" Alaistair suddenly said which made me nod my head. Well, that is also what I thought about a while ago - that if I do have a knack with grey magic then the type that I could possibly use is the Traditional Spells. I am about to ask them what are we going to do next since it is obvious that they have already finished their so-called lecture in order for me to have basic knowledge on magic when I remembered something that I have been dying to ask for a while ago.

"Wait so what is exactly the difference between Magic bonds and Familiar bonds?" I asked - I know, Alaistair already mentioned it a while ago that Magic bonds are part of the grey magic and the familiar bonds are part of the divine magic. Other than that he also mentioned that magic bonds are way more brutal than familiar bonds wherein face if one is in pain the other can instantly feel it and when the contractor dies then so is the being he or she is bonded with.

But although that is the case, I still want a clear explanation of what Familiar bonds are actually.

"A familiar is a creature that has been magically bound to a person in a master-and-servant type of relationship just like in magic bonds. The actual type of familiar varies greatly; it is typically a small animal such as an owl, a cat, a dog, really a familiar can be anything, including demons or even human beings. Similarly, the type of bond can vary: in some cases, it is nothing more than the ability to understand what the familiar says if it can actually speak while in others the familiar is the source of the character's powers. But there must be a specific bond; just having a magical creature as a companion doesn't count." Raphael said which made me frown at what he had said - well specifically is when he said that familiars can vary from animals, demons, or even human beings. Like is that even possible? Like okay, I thought that familiar bonds are actually a divine spell then why the hell does it allow demons and even human beings to be familiars? Isn't it ironic or doesn't it violate anything in the first place?

"I know what you are thinking and yes, familiar bonds can include demons and even human beings. Familiars are the ones who choose their master and although yes a demon is inherently evil there are instances that a demon wanted to be of help to the chosen one offering its power in order to aid human beings despite it being a great crime in their world. But the thing is it does happen but rarely" Raphael added to what he just said as if again he was able to read what is actually on my mind. Oh well, I guess it is really pretty darn obvious in the expression that I have on my face.

He was about to continue his explanation about familiars when I actually realized something that he said.

"Wait - you are speaking as if it did happen before, you know that the chosen one was able to make a demon it's familiar in order to aid him or her in the battle against the calamity that you are talking about a while ago" I exclaimed and once again, the two looked at each other as if they are conversing with their eyes, planning on what they are about to tell to me or if they are actually going to answer my question.

I thought that they are actually say no - that it is all on the history books of this world and everything that they have said about familiars are purely just assumptions that it is possible but then again, the moment that Alaistair looked at me, opened his mouth and said what he is about to say, I literally cannot helo but to massage my temple because I never really thought that it was possible in the first place.

"The second person chosen by the gods in order to save the world from the calamity was indeed able to make a demon as his familiar. It was the demon who insisted despite the fact that he was considered to be a traitor of his own kind. It was really a gamble but in the end, the demon succeeded in aiding humanity in fighting the calamity and the other demons were able to accept the fact that there are indeed rare instances that a demon may be bonded with a divine being and if that happens again - they are no longer going to protest or view their kin as a traitor but rather they are to support their kin in whatever journey lies up ahead." Alaistair said, then he looked at Raphael and he suddenly opened his mouth again and the next thing that came out of it still shocked the shit out of me because I am not expecting such a thing to happen. "And it is also the same for human beings - at first it was unusual but then again, the third chosen one was able to prove such thing is normal for a divine person chosen by gods for she was able to make two human beings as her familiar"

And after he said that, literally I really cannot help but to be shocked of what I just freakin' found out.
