CHAPTER 26

Dawn Scarlett

"Now that we are finished with the spirits let us move on to another kind of magic that hasn't been seen for centuries now because again, the users of this magic are said to have died during the last war against monsters for using up all their magic powers and they are also unable to have someone inherit their abilities" Raphael instantly spoke once again and then he snaps his fingers and in just a blink of an eye we are in a completely different place - but I can feel that we are still inside the library, he just transferred me to another room or something.

I roamed my eyes around and I cannot help but be amazed at the interior design but what also caught my attention are the portraits on the wall - portraits of different people - some are smiling and some are serious and I do not know but I think the portraits are actually pulling me towards them - it is as if they want me to position myself close to them and examine them one by one.

"Those portraits are the portraits of the heroes that fought against monsters the infested the whole world centuries ago and some of them are the chosen ones by the gods and since you are the new chosen one - the divine lady, your portrait will also hang here in this room. But that is not really the reason why I brought you here, the reason why is that I am going to explain the third and last kind of magic that has been long gone, which is none other than the Grey Magic"

"Nothing is truly good or evil, or to say, black and white. That's where Grey Magic comes in, the mix of Good and Evil. Everything in the Grey Magic category is magic that doesn't quite fit with the other categories because it's forbidden or it's just old. Whether it be traditional spells or forbidden spells, Grey Magic is the wacky, old, and mysterious category of Magic. Unlike other Categories of Magic, non-magic users are able to use some Grey Magic to some extent, mainly traditional spells." Raphael started and I do not know but for some reason, I couldn't help but to actually be focused on what he is about to say about this third and last kind of magic in this world and I do not know but for some reason, my eyes want to be fixated on one portrait - and that is the portrait just a few meters away from me. It is a portrait of a man with blonde hair and green eyes - he also has this refined face that oozes with handsomeness but that is not the reason why I cannot help but stare at that portrait. I do not know but among any other portraits that portrait is where I really feel that it is pulling me towards it - like that portrait is actually alive and it wants me to touch it or more of to examine it closely.

"There are actually 4 main types of Grey Magic recorded in books by basically our ancestors, but personally I think that there might be more kinds of magic out there that are considered dead way before the other main types of grey magic have died in this world," Raphael said once again and that made me instantly move my eyes back to him and once again, he is floating - for some reason he really likes to float and I cannot help but think that are the previous archmages are also like him? Or is it just simply because he is still a young archmage that he prefers to do everything as if it is not really a serious thing. But anyway, that is his business and I have no right to dictate to him and what he should and shouldn't do.

" The first kind of Grey magic is called the Possession Magic. According to books, it's the ability to put part of your soul inside an object to give it life, or in some cases, into other humans which results in mind control or necromancy. Using these types of Magic is extremely risky as in the event that if a mage puts part of their soul into an object and that object is destroyed, then they won't be able to get that piece of soul back. Overuse of Possession Magic can result in schizophrenia and other mental disorders.

On the other hand, putting a soul into other humans or animals is strictly forbidden before and up until this point although there have really no sights anymore of people being able to use such magic. But it is also good that there is such a law in order to keep such mages who may use such magic in the future from using it excessively. If you are asking what will happen to the mage that is actually caught doing such a thing by using possession magic? Simple, that mage is going to be arrested, imprisoned depending on the decision of the emperor and there is a possibility that the mage will be tortured to death or immediate execution." he said calmly and seriously, it is as if 'execution' is not really something new to this world well, that is understandable but personally hearing that word - I cannot really help but to fear what will happen to me if the Emperor, Aurelius Shen actually found out that I lied to him about everything that is about me - there is also a strong possibility that I may be able to escape execution if I actually reveal that I am the Divine Lady - the chosen one of the gods but at the same time there is also a possibility that he will exploit what I could in order to pay for making the Emperor, the highest ruler look stupid and of course deceiving him in general when in fact I could have just told him the truth right from the start.

"Under Possession magic is Necromancy. Possessing the dead is strictly forbidden in this kingdom, but possible in other kingdoms because there is a family that specializes in this field but then again there are restrictions and if that family violated the restrictions then again, they are to be imprisoned, put into trial and of course torture to death or immediate execution.

Necromancy works by putting a piece of the soul as a dead being and such a spell is actually quite tricky. It has to be done quickly after death before the body gets stiff and starts dying which goes around by three to five hours after death. If a body is older than a few hours, it won't be receptive, thus making the magic not work. If you are "lucky" the body will accept the piece of soul, but the body will be too stiff to move since most of the body has died.

So you can't resurrect people that's been dead for a long time. An early and successful possession of a dead being can get the blood flowing in the body again, but no matter how good you are at possession magic, necromancy has a time limit (that varies). There might be a piece of soul in the body, but the full original soul is lost, thus the body will slowly keep on dying. Possessing the dead usually lasts no more than a few hours, up to a day. When the mind is dead, and the body is dead, it shuts out all kinds of magic, since all the spirits and life have left it. As with all possession magic, if the body finally dies, you will lose that part of your soul unless you extract it in time."

Raphael said and that was really a long explanation regarding Necromancy. I already heard about necromancy before in my previous life - I heard it in a fictional movie and I know how it works and surprisingly Raphael's explanation is the same as my understanding about how exactly necromancy works. Based on my knowledge, the one who practices necromancy is called the necromancer.

I am about to open my mouth to actually ask him if there are recorded necromancers in books because just like what he has said there is a family in other kingdoms that specializes in such magic when suddenly he spoke again and the next thing he said literally made my jaw drop on the ground and the reason for that is that obviously, I did not expect what he actually said and to where his finger is pointed out.

"That man, Alaistair is the only necromancer that has been allowed in this kingdom because he has been chosen by the person chosen by the gods to be his companion, and the emperor of this kingdom cannot decline the decision of the individual chosen by gods"

that is what he said and his finger is literally pointed at the portrait of the man that I am looking at a while ago - the man that has blonde hair and green eyes, the man who is basically screaming handsomeness and for some reason, that portrait is pulling me towards it. The hell?

"Alaistair belongs to the Western Kingdom and he was supposed to be the next hair to the family who does practice necromancy but then again literature states that before his succession - Leonard, the one chosen by gods during that time asked for his help and since they were friends Alaistair gave up his position as the successor and joined Leonard in actually fighting the calamity that is about to befall the world"

Raphael added to what he had said and I cannot help but to still stare at his portrait and again, I could still feel the odd feeling that the portrait is actually pulling me closer to it. I really cannot get the feeling off of my system and because I am really getting curious about it as well I decided to walk closer to it.
