The New Disease
"Alpha! "
"Open the door! "
A loud knock and someone's frantic voice made both Evelyn and Keiran jump awake from their sleep.
Keiran looked at the clock on the wall, confused.
4:13 AM
The alpha frowned, thinking why someone was in front of his room at this time.
"Alpha, it's an emergency!" The voice shouted, causing Keiran's whole demeanor to change in a second.
"Stay here," He turned to Evelyn who stood up from the couch. The omega looked at him nervously and worried.
Keiran strode towards the door and quickly opened it to see a very worried Josh standing in front of him. "What happened? " Keiran breathed out, trying to stay calm as he could.
"Alpha, there's a problem. A new disease has been found and it's spreading really fast… Two people in our Pack have already…… died, " The beta looked down. "Amelia said she wants to talk to you urgently, "
"I'll be there in a second," Keiran spoke calmly, but his mind was restless from the moment he heard the word 'disease'.
The beta nodded before walking away.
The disease wasn't something warriors of the Shadow Pack are trained to fight. Sure, the pack has an experienced professional medical team but a new disease still means bad news.
"Don't come out," The alpha said to the omega.
"W-What happened? " Evelyn stuttered out while Keiran took a tank top from the closet and quickly put them on.
"Medical emergency," He said before walking out hastily.
"I'm coming with you," She said, following him out.
"I told you to stay inside, " The alpha gritted his teeth.
"I wanna know what's happening, " Evelyn said, mustering up all the courage she had.
"Do as I say and stay inside, "
"No, I'm the luna of this Pack. I-I have the right to know what's happening, "
The alpha closed his eyes, rubbing his temple. There was no time to fight with the omega. "Fine, but do as I say when you're with me or I'll drag you here and lock you in, understand? "
Evelyn quickly nodded in reply as she inwardly sighed.
The alpha rolled his eyes before walking away with a stumbling omega behind him.

"Amelia, what's the situation? "
Keiran asked as soon as he saw the doctor.
Amelia was sweating profusely as she ran around the clinic. The doctor froze when she heard the alpha's voice.
"Oh Keiran, you're finally here," She heaved a sigh of relief.
"Come on, let's talk outside, " She said, leading the alpha outside.
Evelyn straightened up when she saw Amelia and the alpha walk out of the clinic. She hurriedly walked towards them, eager to know what was wrong.
"Keiran, the situation is getting worse every minute. The disease—it's new or it hasn't been recognized by any medical team in the world," Amelia explained frantically.
"So there's no cure? Did you ask for help from any other medical teams?"
"We communicated with every team we know but none of them has any idea about this. We asked some researchers for help but it will take them months to make a cure for an unknown disease. We don't have that much time, it's spreading fast, " Amelia breathed out, rubbing her temple.
"Who died? " The alpha looked at the doctor.
"Two people…. They lived close to the forest. You know them, Erica and Dane…. their kid is still alive but I don't think….. he'll make it, " Amelia sighed. "We were informed just a few hours ago…. It was too late for us to do anything. Ten more people have been admitted with similar symptoms, "
The alpha cursed under his breath as he listened to the doctor. "Calvin! " He shouted at the beta who was carrying something to the clinic.
Calvin handed the packet to someone else before rushing towards Keiran. "What is it? " The beta asked, panting heavily.
"Send some guards to make sure that everyone stays in their home," Keiran ordered. "Do not let them panic. Ensure them that we will take care of it and they'll be fine, " The beta nodded at his words. "Also," Keiran turned to Calvin once again. "Knockdown whoever tries to break the rules,"
"Yes, alpha," Calvin said before running away.
Evelyn watched everything happen as she stood there quietly. The omega fiddled with her fingers before mustering up the courage to speak.
"A-Amelia, you said about the s-symptoms…. What are those?" She stuttered out, causing the alpha and the doctor to look at her.
"Well, we're focusing on treating the symptoms because of the lack of a cure for the disease. I've seen different symptoms in patients but the most common ones are their lack of energy—some don't even have the energy to lift a finger." The doctor explained. "And their skin gets all red and dry. They say it's painful when we touch them. Also, some people said their limbs felt like they're paralyzed, " She sighed.
Evelyn's eyes widened as she listened to the doctor. "Can-can I see them?"
"No! " Keiran shouted as soon as she uttered those words.
Evelyn flinched before she focused her eyes on the alpha. "W-Why can't I? I just want to check how—"
"You're not going to check on anything," Keiran cut off the omega. "Are you kidding me? There are people in there with an infectious disease and you want to go in there? There's no way I'm letting you anywhere near that building," The alpha scoffed.
"Keiran, I know about diseases. I have handled herbs and I've also treated people. I just want to check something," Evelyn tried to explain.
"This is not some harmless winter disease, Evelyn. It's taking lives and it's fast in doing that. I don't want anyone else to get sick," Keiran said sternly.
This is exactly why the alpha didn't want the omega to come with him. He was sure she'd come up with something to bother him.
"No, guys, please listen to me—"
"Evelyn, I told you it's a no," Keiran shook his head, making Amelia groan.
The doctor rubbed her temple, watching the two fight. "Keiran, just let her speak, " She said, gesturing for the omega to continue.
Evelyn took in a deep breath before she talked. "I think I know what this is……. And I want to check if I'm right or not……... If I'm right………., then we better hurry up,"
