Return The Favor
Calvin paused in front of the room. He knew everyone was inside and they would jump on him as soon as he steps inside.
He needed to prepare himself but what can he say to defend himself? He knew very well that what he did to Rain wasn't something a mate should do.
"Calvin, what the hell is going on?! " Rose—his mother—stood up angrily as she saw the young beta enter the room.
Calvin stood silent, waiting for the others to speak up too.
Everyone in the beta and the alpha family was present in the room along with Amelia.
Calvin saw Keiran leaning on a table, silently watching the whole situation.
He knew Keiran couldn't help him with this because even the alpha failed to convince his family to make someone else as his luna other than his fated pair.
"Son, are you Rain's mate?" The former beta looked perplexed as he turned towards his son.
Calvin sighed in defeat before he nodded. "Yes… " He answered meekly, causing his mother to gasp in surprise.
"What?! " Rose asked in disbelief. "Then why did you do that to the poor boy?! "
"I didn't do anything! I needed some time to come to terms with what I learned and I didn't know he was injured, okay?! I didn't do anything intentionally! " Calvin shouted back in frustration.
"Calvin, watch your tone, " Richard warned his son immediately.
"What's there so much to think about? What's wrong with having Rain as your mate?" Rose frowned.
Calvin scoffed sarcastically. "Well, the first problem would be that I'm not attracted to males. And secondly, I don't like Rain, " He shrugged.
"Nonsense! " Rose seethed. "We all know very well that nothing could stop our attraction towards our fated pair. There's no way you're not attracted to Rain so stop lying, " She huffed before glaring at her son. "Calvin, I've always brushed off your rude behavior towards Rain as your childishness but I'm not going to let that happen when that boy's life is on the line, "
Rose spoke sternly.
"Mom, stop acting like he's going to die, " The beta rolled his eyes.
"Calvin, " Scarlett cut off the boy, her voice deep and cold. "Think before you talk. You don't know what Rain is going through, "
Calvin frowned. "What? " He asked, making the former luna turn towards Amelia.
"Tell him, Amelia. He should know, " Scarlett said and Amelia sighed before she looked up at Calvin.
"Rain thinks you hate him, " Amelia started. "And that thought alone has made the omega's condition a lot worse. He can't even stand up for a few minutes now. His wolf is not responding and so his body is slowly giving up. If you don't do something immediately, things will get out of hand, " The doctor said, rubbing her temples in frustration.
"What do we need to do? " Rose cut in immediately. "We'll do anything just to have him back like how he was before, "
Amelia looked up at the lady who looked like she was going to cry. "Mating will solve all the problems but that would be too sudden for both of them. Marriage and bonding would help to stabilize his condition, " She said with a small smile.
Calvin furrowed his eyebrows in disdain. "No way! " He opposed. "I'm not ready to marry him! " He shouted like everyone around him was crazy.
Richard couldn't help but glare at his son. "You have to, Calvin. Your mate's condition is worsening, "
"Calvin, we did not raise you to be so selfish like this! " Rose said, frustrated at her son's behavior.
"You need to marry him now or later. Newly found mates can't stay away for longer. If you do it now, then it will avoid a lot of unnecessary problems and it will help Rain to recover easily, " William—Keiran's father—said to the beta.
The room fell into an awkward silence after that.
A few minutes passed before Scarlett spoke up. "We will give you some time to think about it. You can talk with Keiran. He has been in your position before so I think he could help you in some way, " She said before looking at her son who was silently watching the whole situation.
Keiran nodded and then everyone started to walk out of the room except Calvin.
Both the alpha and the beta were silent for a few minutes even after everyone walked out of the room.
"Calvin, " Keiran broke the silence by calling out the beta's name.
"I don't need your opinion. This is not the same situation that you've been in. Your mate was only an omega. Mine is an omega and a f*cking male on top of it! " Calvin shouted in frustration.
"Calvin, I know you're frustrated but you can't deny the attraction you feel towards your mate, and being an omega is not a bad thing… " Keiran said to his best friend who scoffed in reply.
"So you've changed now? Where is the alpha who was so worried about his pack? Where is the alpha who despised the weak? Has your pride been melted away by your mate? "
"You can say it like that, " Keiran chuckled lightly. "Evelyn taught me a lot of things… One is that the Moongoddess knows who's perfect for you. And another one is that… strength doesn't always make one stronger… it's their ability to forgive and heal, " He smiled at the beta.
"You need to give Rain a chance. You know he deserves it. He's someone who's been through a lot… you're his last hope. Your decision will cost him his life so think about it, " The alpha sighed.
Calvin looked down, unsure about what to say. "I-I don't like him… " The beta bit his lips.
Keiran gripped his best friend's shoulder. "Calvin, think of Rain's face, " He said, making the beta look up at him confused.
"What? "
"Just think about it, " Keiran urged and Calvin did it with a sigh. "Now think about all the times he hurt you, " The alpha said.
Calvin opened his eyes with a frown. "He never did that… " He trailed off, causing Keiran to smile.
"Right, so just return that favor to him, " The alpha patted his back before walking out of the room, leaving Calvin alone with all the thoughts running through his mind.
