He Didn't Look Back

"Happy Birthday! " Everyone wished in unison as Rain entered the hallway. The omega blushed and covered his face as Scarlett squeezed him in a hug.


"T-Thank you! " Rain giggled when Amelia came and kissed his cheeks.

"My baby's all grown up now, " Scarlett wiped her tears.

"Don't cry, it's my birthday, " The boy pouted before hugging her.

Evelyn smiled. "Come on, we prepared your favorite cake, " She said, catching the omega's attention.

"Strawberry?! "

"Yes, strawberry, " Evelyn nodded, causing Rain to jump in joy.

There weren't a lot of people to celebrate Rain's birthday. Usually, when someone celebrates their birthday, almost all the pack members come to give them gifts and blessings. But that didn't happen on Rain's birthday because not a lot of people liked him because of his status.

It was very cruel how they behaved towards the omega but Rain didn't mind it anymore.

There were only a few people present—Amelia, Derek, Josh, the alpha family, and the beta family except Calvin.

Everyone cheered and sang when Rain cut the cake. He took a piece and extended it to Scarlett.


"When will he find his mate? " Evelyn turned to Keiran who was leaning on the wall.

"His wolf would be able to sense it at the exact time he was born, " Keiran replied.

"Do you know the time of his birth? "

"We're not sure," Keiran shrugged. "But mom said it was between 6 and 6:30 PM, "


"Come on, guys! It's time to give gifts! " Amelia announced as she dragged the boy away.


Rain blushed and thanked everyone shyly while they gave him his birthday gifts. He got a knitted sweater, a collection of beanies of different colors, his favorite comics, and video games, and some other things.

Josh was the last one to gift him. He gave the omega a silver necklace that had both of their initials as lockets.

"Keep this close to your heart always," Josh said to Rain and kissed his hand, making the omega blush.

"Th-Thank you, " He covered his face in embarrassment when everyone around them cooed at the duo.

"Let's serve the cake," Scarlett said as she walked to the kitchen.

Rain heaved a sigh as he sipped on his coffee. He felt happy. He would be able to meet his mate in a few minutes and the omega prayed that his mate was in their pack so he could meet them today.


"I want to go for a walk, " He mumbled to himself as he set his coffee mug down.

Rain put on his jacket and shoes before he walked out. It was slightly snowing outside. He walked around the garden for a few minutes before deciding to go to his mother's garden.

The omega hummed happily and skipped his way towards there. His feet stopped when a sweet scent of sandals hit him. It was faint but recognizable.

Rain felt his wolf perk up in excitement. His heartbeat sped up as he walked towards the garden. The scent was getting stronger. It was familiar but he couldn't recognize whose scent it was.


He paused when saw a pile of clothes on the ground. He was sure it was his mate's. The omega's eyes traveled to the garden to find a wolf sitting there, staring down at the frozen pond.

The wolf was huge and beautiful. It had dark gray and white fur and bright yellow eyes.

Rain wanted to run towards the wolf but he decided against it. The omega started to strip out of his clothes. He met his mate in the wolf form so he wanted the other to see him like that too.

The omega dropped his clothes next to his mate's clothes and started to shift. Rain's wolf was only half the size of his mate's. His fur was pure white and his eyes an icy blue.

He stood there for a minute and looked at his mate's wolf. It seemed to have caught his scent because it was looking around in confusion.

It froze when he saw Rain's wolf. The omega took small steps towards his surprised mate staring at him. He was hesitant to walk towards the big wolf but his mind calmed when he saw his mate's ears perk up and tail wagging happily.


An unknown force of energy surged through his body as Rain ran towards his mate. He jumped on the big animal and rolled on the floor happily before nuzzling into its fur to cover him in the fresh sandal scent.

The big wolf huffed happily before it nipped on the omega's ears and licked his face. Rain mewled and did the same to his mate before they started chasing each other around the pond.

The gray wolf caught the omega and they both rolled on the concrete pathway covered in snow. Rain playfully bit his mate's tail and then jumped on his back before nibbling on his ears.


It was the happiest moment in Rain's life.


He waited so many years for it.


After a few minutes of playing with each other, the gray wolf started sniffing the omega and rubbed his scent on the smaller one. Rain rolled onto his back and exposed his tummy to his mate as a sign of submission.

The big wolf hovered over the omega and licked his face.

'Shift'

A deep but deliciously sweet voice came to Rain's mind.

It was his mate's.

It sounded familiar but the omega was too happy and excited to think about it.



Rain huffed before he started to shift along with his mate hovering over him. Rain panted as he finally shifted into his human form. He opened his eyes with a small smile, ready to see the face of his mate. But the sight in front of him drained the life out of his body.


Calvin.


His mate is Calvin.


The beta glared at his naked mate under him in disgust. He was frowning and looked like he was about to puke.


"What the fuck?! " Calvin sneered, jumping away from the omega.


Rain could only whimper as he watched his mate curse as he stood up.

"This is not true,

That thing is not my mate.

No, never.

This must be a joke,"

The beta mumbled as he walked towards his clothes.

Rain got up when he saw his mate getting dressed. He ran towards his clothes and quickly put on his sweater and pants. His hands and lips were trembling as he did so.

His dreams were turning into nightmares in a split second.

The omega turned to his mate as soon as he was dressed. "C-Calvin, "


"Don't say my name! " The beta gritted out as he continued to get dressed.

"Pl-Please don't leave. I need to ta-talk to you, " Tears streamed down Rain's face as he talked.

Calvin ignored the boy and took his coat before he turned to walk away.

The omega panicked and grabbed the beta's hand instinctively. "Please I beg you—"


"Get your filthy hands off me, bastard! " Calvin shouted and pushed away the boy harshly.

Rain could only gasp as he lost his balance and fell to the concrete pathway. He cried out in pain when his head hit the hard floor. He shut his eyes tightly and rolled on the floor from the excruciating pain.

"C-Calvin, " He croaked out weakly as he stared at his mate's retreating figure. The omega felt hot liquid stream down from his head.


He helplessly whispered his mate's name again before he slipped into unconsciousness.


The beta didn't even look back.
