Hunters

"I need you to stay here. Do not go out. Do you hear me?" Keiran asked as he got dressed hurriedly.

Evelyn's eyebrows furrowed. "But what about the others? What about Rain and Amelia? They—"

"Evelyn, we'll take care of them. All you need to do is sit here. I don't want you to go and get hurt," Keiran walked up to his mate and took her face into his hands. He placed a soft kiss on her lips before stepping back. "Lock the door and take a rest, " He smiled before walking out, leaving his mate troubled and worried.

"Just don't touch any of my things. Do you hear me? That includes my bed too. Find a mattress and sleep on the floor or something, " Calvin said as he flopped down on the bed.

Rain only nodded before he looked for a mattress around the room.

"It's under my bed, " The beta mumbled with a sigh.

Calvin shot up straight as someone knocked on their door loudly. "Calvin, open up! "

The beta frowned at the frantic voice.

"Hold on, I'm coming. Just don't destroy my door," He spoke in irritation as he walked towards the door.

Calvin opened the door to be greeted by a nervous pack warrior.

"What? " He raised a brow.

"Hunters… " The guy mumbled out, making the beta freeze.

"Where? " Calvin questioned instantly, his voice turning cold as ice.

"In the North. They're planning to attack at dawn. Alpha called everyone to the arsenal, " The warrior replied before gulping.

Calvin nodded and told him to go and inform others. The beta raked a hand through his hair in frustration while he walked back to get dressed.

"W-What happened?" Rain stuttered out, seeing his mate in a distraught state.

Calvin couldn't help but sigh. "There's an emergency. I need to go, " He mumbled before putting on his sweater and jacket.

"I-Is everything okay? Are you going to fight?" The omega asked worriedly.

Calvin was about to snap at the boy before he stopped himself. He looked at the worried expression on his mate's face and sighed again. "I'll have to. Just stay here and don't go outside, okay? I'll be back in the morning, "

Rain nodded but his face still showed how worried he was. "Come back safe, " The omega whispered out, looking down.

The beta only scoffed in reply before walking out.

"I need group one to evacuate the pack members living to our territory borders without any fuss. Move the children and women to the packhouse and guard the place heavily.

Group two will be guarding the omega house but don't cause them any discomfort. Don't let people panic as you do your job.

Group three will be going to the Southside. There's a chance that we might get ambushed from there.

The rest of us are going to wait in the evacuated houses on the North border. If I'm guessing correctly, they're going to start their attack at dawn. They think we won't be alert at that time, "

Keiran smirked. "They think they know our weakest point and that's exactly our strength. Do not let them know that we have any idea about their presence. Keep them thinking their plan is going to work out. Let's see who's gonna surprise who, " He scoffed.

"But alpha, will fifty warriors be enough to be on the Northside? What if they outnumber us? " A warrior asked.

"They're hunters, Dean. They don't attack in great numbers as other packs do. Hunters are a group of few and also they're planning a surprise attack now so there must be less than fifteen people, " Keiran shrugged.

"What are they after? They're not coming to fight you or take over the pack… they're after something else. What is it? " Calvin frowned in confusion.

"I'm not sure either, " Keiran sighed. "I think we'll only know when they'll demand it, " He raked a hand through his hair before turning towards his warriors. "Alright, warriors! Get to work and fight till death, "

"Yes, alpha! " They replied before scrambling towards the weapon room and taking their weapons.

"Alright, warriors! Move to positions. I can feel them breaking into our territory, " Keiran stood up and walked out of the house.

"Only fight in your wolf form when you are out of weapons. Use your guns and swords as much as you can, " He ordered as they walked towards the woods. "Also, don't forget to mask your scent. Summon your wolves and ask them to heighten your senses, "

"Yes, alpha, " The warriors nodded and bowed before walking into the forest.

"I'm not letting any lowlife to touch my pack, "
Keiran smirked.

It was almost an hour later when Keiran and his warriors heard the hunters approach. Even though the night was deep in the deafening silence, they had to heighten their focus to hear the steps of the Intruders because they were light as wind.

"Oh well well well, why's the air so thick here…? " A raspy voice broke through the air, alerting all the warriors.

Keiran gestured to them to stay still.

"Alpha Winter, " The voice said again. "We thought we were the who's going to surprise you, "

Keiran chuckled. "This is our way, Derned, " He smirked, walking out of his hiding place.

"I see… So you haven't forgotten me, " The person snickered.

"How could I, dear friend?"

"Friend? Hmm… interesting way to call someone who tried to kill you, " The hunter laughed sickly.

"You're still with Victor? You know it's not for your good. Stop living like his slave, " Keiran scoffed.

"Aww… are you worried about me, Keiran? Do you still miss your childhood friend? " The hunter mocked.

"You're the last person I would be worried about, " Keiran snorted. "But jokes aside, why are you in my territory? " The alpha glared at the hunter.

"We just came here to take something, "

"Take what? " Keiran raised a brow.

"Something that belongs to us. Something golden and beautiful,"

"We don't have anything that belong to you, "

Derned chuckled while shaking his head. "You sure about that, Keiran? You're sure you've never seen a golden beauty? " The hunter smirked.

Golden beauty…

Keiran's body stiffened as the realization dawned on him.

His eyes turned crimson red while his canines extended threateningly.

"We want her, Keiran. And we're here to take her, "

Keiran's crimson eyes glowed in the moonlight as he stared at the hunter menacingly.

"Not even in your dreams,"
