The omega blinked her eyes as she woke up. She tried to stretch but something was holding her down.

Evelyn furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. She looked down and gasped when seeing a veiny hand around her waist.

The girl was now wide awake, dumbfoundedly staring at her mate's hand that was hugging her.

After a few minutes of panicking, Evelyn bit her lips and decided to get out of the alpha's hold. She tried to squirm and wiggle her way out of the Keiran's hold but the alpha only tightened his hands around her.

"Oh god," Evelyn whispered to herself and slowly turned around only to find Keiran staring back at her.

The omega yelped in surprise while the alpha just smirked at her reaction. In a swift movement, he pinned her on the bed and hovered over her. "Were you trying to escape? " Keiran chuckled, raising an eyebrow at his mate.

The omega only gulped, not knowing what to say. Keiran was acting differently these days…

She just stared at him with her wide green eyes.

The alpha tilted his head, his raven locks falling into his eyes as he did so. "Don't you have anything to say? "

"I-I was…Umm… I just—"

Keiran cut off the omega with a hearty laugh.

Evelyn paused and stared at her mate with her wide shining eyes. She felt so content listening to the sound of his laughter. It was like music.

The girl felt a small smile tug on her lips.

Keiran looked at her for a moment before leaning down to stuff his face into the crook of her neck. "This scent of yours…. it does unspeakable things to me," He whispered, inhaling a lungful of the omega's scent.

Evelyn felt her mate's grip tighten on her hands for a minute before he pulled away from her. She saw his eyes changing colors back and forth from blue to red.

The alpha heaved a sigh and closed his eyes, rubbing his temple. It looked like he was trying to hold back something. "We should get ready… Mr. Walker invited us to have breakfast with his family," Keiran said as he got up from the bed.

He didn't look back at the confused omega staring at him as he walked to the bathroom in a hurry.

Evelyn tilted her head in confusion.

'What just happened? '

"I hope you guys had a good sleep," Mr. Walker said as he invited Evelyn and Keiran to have breakfast.

His whole family was waiting for them at the table, which made the omega feel bad for being a little late.

"This is my son, David," Mr. Walker introduced the future alpha who immediately stood up and shook hands with Keiran.

"Good to see you, Mr. Winter," David said, making Keiran nod.

"Good to see you too," The alpha greeted back.

Mr. Walker then moved on to the brunette-haired girl beside David. "She's my daughter, Daya, " Mr. Walker patted the girl's head.

Daya stood up with a beaming smile. "Hey, Keiran…" She greeted him shyly.

Keiran smiled back. "Hey, Daya… How are you?" He shook the girl's hands as he questioned.

Mr. Walker looked between Keiran and his daughter, clearly confused. "You guys know each other?" He asked Daya who nodded with a bright smile.

"He was my senior in college," She said, looking at the alpha.

"Oh that's amazing," Mr. Walker laughed.

Evelyn bit her lips anxiously. There was an unsettling feeling in her heart that she couldn't explain.

Mr. Walker moved on to the next member of their family. "And this is my lovely wife, Maria," He said, side hugging a beautiful woman close to him.

Maria looked elegant and beautiful. She reminded Evelyn of her mother-in-law.

"It's so nice to meet you both finally," Maria smiled and came forward to hug both the alpha and the omega.

"We feel the same, Mrs. Walker, " Keiran replied with a gentle smile. He then brought the omega closer to him by her waist, causing Evelyn to turn red like a tomato. "This is Evelyn, my mate, " The alpha introduced her to everyone.

Evelyn swears she saw Daya's smile falter for a minute. It was so obvious how her whole aura changed so fast.

"You're so lucky because your mate is absolutely beautiful, Keiran," Maria chuckled and caressed the omega's red cheeks.

After a minute, they all decided to have breakfast. Keiran, Mr. Walker, and David were discussing Pack training and the disease which occurred in the Shadow Pack lately while Maria talked with Evelyn about how they met their mates.

Evelyn stole a few glances at Daya who was silent and just staring at Keiran with gleaming eyes. The omega looked down when she felt her heart clench.

She wanted to tell the girl to stop staring at her mate….

Tell Daya that Keiran was hers...

But she couldn't… because that would be rude…

"Come on, I'll show you around the Pack," Mr. Walker said as soon as they finished breakfast.

Keiran and Evelyn smiled and wore their jackets before they followed the alpha as he walked out. David trailed behind them as well.

Mr. Walker Showed them everything in the Pack. Their clinic, training area, garden, and their collection of vehicles. He was so excited as he talked about everything.

"Now, I'm going to show you something interesting," He said, making his son chuckle.

"He's talking about our pets," David said with a small smile.

"Pets? " Evelyn asked, confused.

"Yes, the animals that we train, " David replied.

"He ruined the surprise, " Mr. Walker rolled his eyes before walking away.

The three of them followed the older alpha to a heavily guarded place behind their packhouse.

Mr. Walker opened the gate, letting them all in. The place was huge and was protected with high walls surrounding them. Inside it was divided into what it seems like to be big spacious cells.

In each cell were different types of animals from hyenas to bears. The animals all started to make sounds as they saw them coming.

The omega's heart clenched. Even though all the animals were in big cells where they could roam around and have everything they wanted, it still was an unsettling sight.

Mr. Walker and David started to talk about all the animals passionately. They knew very well about all the species. Both of them talked about how loyal the animals are and how good they're taking care of them.

But no matter how much Evelyn tried, she couldn't feel anything but sadness as she looked at the animals in the cages.

"Are you okay? You've been down since we saw the animals," Keiran asked with a frown.

Evelyn looked down as a sigh slipped past her lips. "I don't know… it was just… so disheartening… the animals… they don't belong there… "

The alpha nodded. "I know but we can't do anything about it… it's considered an offense if we try to interfere in their Pack business,"

Evelyn's frown only deepened. "I just hope there is some way… " She trailed off. "I don't know how they can do this even after their souls are half animals… "
