Chapter 22 Bronson

Her eyes water but I ignore her outburst. I didn’t become the most powerful businessman by giving out empathy left and right. A sudden heaviness lands hard on my chest as the images of Nicole beaten and bruised enters my mind. She didn’t ask for any hand outs and yet I’m giving her more kindness than I’ve ever shown any else.
Shaking my head, ridding my thoughts to leave me, I nod my head at Bethany and wait as she does the same before retreated from my office. Once she’s gone, I take out my phone and send Rand a message. I didn’t want Nicole alone today, not after what that piece of sh*t did to her last night, so I had Rand keep an eye on her today. My fingers type quickly as I send Rand my first slew of messages about Nicole Myers.
Me: How is she?
Rand: Swimming sir. She seems to love the pool as much as you do.
I smile, thinking of the graceful yet hard ass swimming around in my pool. A frown is replaced quickly when I think of her in a bathing suit, gliding across the water. Shaking my head once again, I try and rid my mind of naughty inappropriate images.
Checking the time, I notice it’s no where near time to leave for the day but there is no point in trying to get more work today. All my mind manages to conjure up are thoughts of Nicole. I call Landen, my driver and security man that Rand trained and let him know I am ready to leave for home.
I’m walking out of my door when I spot Bethany wiping at her tears over at her desk. She spots me and immediately hides it, throwing her tissues in the trashcan beside her desk. Her nose is red and eyes puffy. Guilt rides me hard as my earlier words come through.
I was a dick.
Walking over, I stop just before her desk, watchin as she quickly stands and adjusts her skirt before giving me a forced smile.
“Mr. Bronson, did you need me for anything?”
“No, Bethany, I was just letting you know I’m leaving for the day. I need everything for my itinerary sent over to me by tonight.”
“Yes sir.” She states then sits and immediately gets back on the computer. She looks up again, noticing I am still standing speechless beside her desk. Christ, do I really never do this that I had forgotten how to apologize? “Anything else sir?”
“Yes.” Blowing out a deep breath I keep my posture straight and blurt out everything Bethany deserves to hear. “Bethany, I wanted to apologize for treating you badly back in my office, in fact for any of the times I have been disrespectful.” She’s speechless, her mouth wide open in a gaping hole. “This job can be demanding but if you work with me, I promise I will do what I can to make your personal matters the upmost importance.”
It takes her a solid minute to close her mouth. When she finally catches her breath, she blesses me with a genuine smile. “Thank you, sir.”
Nodding my head, I turn and walk out of the office before I say anymore that will most likely wind up making her cry happy tears.
Perhaps Nicole is changing me already.
