Chapter 36 Bronson
I’m hard.
So hard it hurts.
Never have I allowed someone else to get in front of my deal and take over, but when Nkki jumped up, shouting something arbitrary about some statue we happen to pass as we arrived here in Seattle, I knew she was up to something.
Genius. The woman was a genius. His heart strings were pulled towards her as she spoke about his late son, and as much as I am a hard ass by nature, I would never think of going after them in that way. I wasn’t exactly happy with the percentage of the first year, I would need to figure out how to keep this company alive, but every year after that? Yes, that was going to not only make me more successful, the company here would remain and so would the charity attached to it.
Something I could respect.
“Thank you, Miss Myers.” Roger boasts as he and his assistant whose name I have already forgotten, walk out the room.
Nikki turns to me the moment the door closes and gives me a skeptical look. She’s worried I’m upset, but I feel nothing but pride and excitement.
Damn, this woman is certainly something else.
“Bronson, I am so sorry I jumped the gun on that deal. I swear I was only trying to keep him in the room and then I kept talking and before I knew it, I had him sold. He was ready to take the deal– “
“Nikki.”
“And then I realized that it may not have been the kind of deal you would have made, and I felt horrible. I mean, I read the emails between your companies and I read the original deal you proposed so I tried to keep it along those lines– “
“Nikki.”
“But then I knew I wouldn’t be able to sell him unless he was able to keep this location and his sons’ charity, and the first year…. Oh God, Bronson, the first year!”
“Nikki!” I shout, this time able to stop her rambling. Walking over to her, I tip her chin up with me fingers, making sure her gaze connects with mine. “I’m not angry with what you did. I’m proud as hell. The first year will be a little heavy but it’s nothing I wouldn’t have done. You were even able to save his charity, which is something I don’t think he would have ever mentioned to me, and if it got out that my company was responsible for shutting it down, there would have been press and media backlash.”
“So…. you’re not angry with me?” She asks, and damn if I don’t want to kiss away the small frown forming on her lips.
Kiss? Wait what?
“No, I’m not. I’m proud Nikki. Thank you for saving this.” We continue to stand in the same spot for what feels like hours. My hand is still gripping her chin while her small smile draws me in closer and closer.
My phone chimes, breaking us away from the small moment where nothing else mattered, and I step back and pull it out of my pocket. Checking the message, I nod my head at Nikki, then speak. “That was Rand, they have the car ready for us. We can head back to the hotel now.”
She nods her head in return, the small smile still resting on her mouth. We walk out of the conference room and straight towards the elevator. Halfway down, Nikki turns towards me, her ambition still clear and evident on her shoulders.
She’s proud of herself. Love what she did in there.
“Let’s go to dinner.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, I think that we should celebrate getting not only an amazing deal, but the fact that I did it!”
