Chapter 28 Bronson
The bellman takes the luggage up to the top floor, giving us the grand tour of the suite. I tip him a twenty and watch as he leaves then look over Nicole who is still marveling at the couch.
“Can’t believe how big this place is. I thought I lived in a decently sized hotel.” She mumbles but I catch each word. It’s her first time referencing the place she calls home.
“It’s just a hotel, not a true place to call home Nicole.” She gives me a knowing look, then smirks and comes closer to me while crossing her arms at her chest.
“You know you could call me Nikki, right? You already have.” She shrugs and I’m reminded of not just hours ago as I held her body tightly within my grasp as she steadied her breathing. I did call her Nikki, knew it was something she went by, but it felt like more than that. I wanted to speak to her on a more intimate level.
“I know that. I like your full name Nicole.”
“Yes, but my friends call me Nikki.”
“Is that what I am to you now? A friend?” Another shrug is all I receive, and she turns and heads for the kitchen. I follow her with my eyes but keep my feet in place. I have somewhere to be in less than an hour, I should be preparing for my meeting, going over details with Rand, instead, I can’t seem to leave my spot.
“I think we’re somewhere in the middle of awkward strangers and nonexistent friends.” She states opening the fridge and grabbing a small bottled water. I always have the staff stock the kitchen and restrooms with specific amenities while I stay at their hotels.
“Close enough to still call you Nicole then.” The sarcastic note earns me a smile, one that I wouldn’t mind keeping on her soft features.
Damn, this woman is stunning.
“Didn’t you have a meeting to go to Bronson?” She asks then smiles brighter when I begin tumbling around for my things.
“I’ll keep Rand and Jim here with you, I’ll take Landen.”
“Thanks, but I really don’t need a babysitter.”
“Not that I don’t trust you, but security stays on us while we are away. I won’t have it any other way.”
She studies me for some time and I am certain I am going to get some kind of lashing for telling her that she will most likely have what she calls babysitters on this trip, but she surprises me by giving me another shrug followed by a smile.
“That’s it?” She looks over at me after taking a drink from the bottle. “You’re not going to give me any sh*t? You’re not going to give me some sarcastic speech about how I don’t trust you?”
Nicole walks slowly over to me, her hips sway as she nears me, and I have to force myself to keep my focus on her eyes.
“I won’t give you any sh*t Bronson. You say the boys are here to keep us safe, then I trust you. I trust your word. I don’t exactly like it, and I’m sure you know that, but we are on your playing field right now. This is your plan.”
I nod my head skeptically, then show her where her room is. Rand, Landen and Jim are next door and Nicole and I will be sharing this suite. After plugging in my number on her phone, I leave for my meeting, Landen in tow, my mind continuing to play her last words.
“This is your plan.”
Somehow, highly doubt that.
