Chapter 27 Bronson
“So, this is San Francisco?” My gaze leaves the screen of my phone and latches onto Nicole. Her eyes are locked on the iconic scenery as we pass the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve been here often, but somehow, looking at the city through her eyes, her excitement, is making the drive much more exciting.
“This is it. It’s one of the most successful cities in our country.” She looks over towards me and I take her in fully. She’s wearing one of the outfits we went out and shopped for. Her dark jeans and white silk blouse make her look years older, and the black blazer she is wearing compliments them both well.
“And where exactly is the business you hope to grasp in your hands?”
“A few miles back from where we picked up the car. We are headed to the hotel first.” Shortly after Nicole had fallen asleep on my lap, I had moved her towards the small cabin located in the back of the plane. I had never cared for someone in that way, to feel needed was a foreign feeling but one I very much liked. I knew she wouldn’t want to talk about it with me after that, and I was fine with leaving the subject behind us. But when she awoke and thanked me, I saw something in her that made me glad I was bringing her along.
“So, are you sure you don’t want me with you today? Might be a great day for me to start my new job.” She states sarcastically but I simply smirk and look forward where Rand and Landen are up front. The idea had struck me to have her close by today, but after holding her on the flight over, and seeing the desire spark in her eyes a few times now, I think it’s best I steer clear for a few hours.
“No, you should rest today, I’ll be fine by myself.”
We arrive at the Fairmont hotel and the moment we step out; I can see Nicole’s innocence once again. She looks up at the vast hotel in awe, her mouth wide open as she stares at the mountain of flags atop the building. I approach her with caution, not exactly sure which Nicole I will receive but fight against my uncertainty. Gripping her shoulders, I lean into her and whisper into her ear while pointing out across the way.
“That’s the Transamerica Pyramid there, and if you look past those buildings, just a short boat ride away, is Alcatraz Island.”
“It’s incredible here.” I smile when she looks up at me with the same Cheshire cat smile she had on while we were driving. It’s strange that I have been here numerous amounts of times with Cassandra and yet, I don’t believe I have ever seen her enamored with the beautiful scenery.
Like an ice cold bucket of water has been poured all over me, the thought of me being this close with another woman while Cassandra is somewhere in China doing some model fashion show, has me releasing my hold on Nicole and taking a few steps back, something she immediately notices but refuses to say anything about.
Walking into the hotel, Rand checks our reservations and I smirk when I see Nicole’s eyes light up when they confirm the two suites. I have never been the kind of man that is afraid to flaunt his money, after all, I live in a world where money talks, but there is something about Nicole that is making me feel guilty for living the life I do, while others cannot.
