Chapter 97 Nikki
Matt stares me down but eventually nods his head and steps back. I know they don’t trust me and based on the way Brody looked when I saw him outside of my work, he is a big part of that. Brody has no doubt been running his mouth about the scheme and with the other’s stuck inside these walls since Rand’s friend is having them all watched, they’re on edge. I do not blame them for being upset, but I do need my own questions answered.
“Now, someone needs to tell me what happened.”
“Mick and Charles told us how you went the other way. Planned on turning us all in and staying with that tool bag Fortworth.” Amy states as she tends to the moaning Alfonso. “I suppose I can say that isn’t true since you’re here right now looking like a deer caught in headlights?”
I shake my head; anger pours through me at the lies and deceit Mick threw around about me. But that only answers one of my questions. “What about my brother? Where is Brody and what the hell would this all have to do with Alfonso?”
Alfonso takes the opportunity to begin groaning even further until Matt bends down alongside Anderson and helps Alfonso sit up. “M-Mick was t-trying to c-cut me out of the deal. He has a n-new partner now a-and he wants to split it between the two. Even Charles and your b-brother aren’t aware. I f-found out, came to talk with him, h-he had Charles do this.” He nearly collapses back onto the floor where Matt and Anderson help him to lay back down.
Brody. He must have gone with Mick thinking he could get me out of all of this. There is no doubt in my mind Mick will terminate him and everyone else so that he gets to Bronson’s fortune.
“I’ve got to get to Brody.” I start for the entrance only to stop when my name is called out. I turn to spot Amy walking towards me, spots of blood cover her UCLA sweatshirt she seems to never take off. Her face looks worried, but I don’t miss the determined look she gives me either.
“Mick’s gone off the deep end. For him to do something like this, so daring and bold, and leave it here for all of us to witness, then he isn’t thinking clearly.” She looks away then back to me, the determined look gone, replaced by a look of anger and rage. “I don’t know what happened to the original plan, although guessing by your glow, I would say that at least some of what Mick was selling us is true?”
“Amy I–"
“You don’t need to defend your heat Myers. Not to me. And I didn’t want you to admit it so that I could gain some kind of upper hand, I wanted you to know that once we’ve got Alfonso up and moving and put him somewhere he could rest for a few days, we’re leaving.”
“What?”
“The Bandits are done Nikki.” She shakes her head but there’s hint of a smile behind her frown. She’s happy this is over, and I have a feeling she isn’t the only one. “So, go get your brother, smack some sense into him, make him open his eyes about Mick and then get him and that man of yours, out of there. I have a feeling you won’t like the alternative plan.”
I nod my head then turn and stare at the entrance once more. Once I leave these doors, I am no longer a part of anything. It will just be me and my brother, out on the streets, and for once, I don’t mind it.
I turn back and lock eyes with Amy watching as she stares at me with glistened eyes. We’ve never been close, none of us have, but we were still a family, still a group of forgotten people that needed a home. “Thank you, Amy.”
I turn before she could say anything and run out of the Serendin, looking back the building that started all of this, once and for all.
